Militant killed in onging Shopian Gunfight

Shopian, Oct 19 : One militant has been killed in an ongoing gunfight which broke out between militants and security forces in Melhoora area of Zainapora in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday evening.

An official told Kashmir Despatch that one militant has been killed sofar in the operation, he however, said the identity of the slain militant is yet to be ascertained.

The officer said earlier a joint team of Army’s 55 RR, SOG and CRPF conducted searches in Melhoora area following inputs about the presence of some militants.

As search party encircled the target house the hidding militants fired upon them thus triggering a gunfight he added.

Pertinently, earlier in the day suspected militants attacked a joint party of government forces in south Gangoo area of Pulwama district in which no loss of life or any other injury was reported.
