Gunfight underway in Shopian

Ganderbal, Oct 06: An unidentified militant and police constable were killed when militants attacked the house of a BJP worker in Nunar area of Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, police said Tuesday.
In a tweet police said, #militants fired upon one BJP worker at Nunar #Ganderbal. He is safe, however, his one PSO who was injured in this incident has succumbed to his injuries, One unidentified #militant got #killed in PSOs retaliation.
SSP Ganderbal Khalil Poswal in a tweet also confirmed the killing of police constable and Identified him as Mohammad Altaf.
Meanwhile, An encounter broke out in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday evening.
An official told Kashmir Despatch that contact has been established with hidding militants and firing form both sides is on, he said a joint team earlier in the day launched a cordon and search operation in Sugan area of Zainapora Shopian following inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.
He said search operation turned into gunfight after hidding militants fired upon them.
A police officer also confirmed to Kashmir Despatch said two to three militants are believed to be trapped. The officer further added that lights has been installed in view of the dark and the operation may remain on a hold for the night.
