Militants escape after brief exchange of fire in Shopian

SRINAGAR, Apr 07: Militants have managed to give slip to forces after brief exchange of fire with security forces in Haripora area of Imamsahib in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

An official said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 44 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area on Wednesday evening.

He said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which retaliated, triggering an encounter.

After a brief exchange of fire cordon was extended to nearby areas and search operation was started, however, nothing was found in the area, he added.

After conducting searches for several hours, nothing was found and the operation has been called off, the officer added. (KDC)
