New Delhi, Nov 27: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology on Wednesday issued a warning to the public against fake notices being circulated on social media platforms in the name of the ministry, claiming a strict ban on the use of government recruitment names, logos and exam content for selling courses and promotional activities.
In a notification, the ministry said a forged notice dated November 25 is being circulated through messaging platforms, particularly WhatsApp, and has no official status. The ministry clarified that certain individuals and online platforms are falsely using the ministry’s name and logo to transmit misleading and unauthorised information.
The ministry said such actions are illegal and constitute a serious offence under the Information Technology Act 2000 and other applicable laws.
Advising the public and all stakeholders, the ministry said people should not believe or forward any unverified messages or advertisements claiming to be issued by the ministry. It urged citizens to verify information only through its official website and communication channels.
The ministry also clarified that it has not authorised any third party to collect fees, personal data, or provide job offers, subsidies, grants or digital services without official notification. It warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found involved in creating or circulating fake information.
Citizens have been advised to remain cautious and report suspicious content to the ministry through its official email or website to help curb the spread of misinformation in cyberspace. [KNT]
