The Member of the Legislative Assembly for Sopore Constituency, Irshad Rasool Kar, met with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and appealed to him for the formation of a Joint SIT in the case of a missing man from Sopore.
In a detailed letter addressed to CM Omar Abdullah, MLA Kar requested the urgent formation of a Joint SIT in the case of missing person Shabir Ahmad Shah.
The letter reads:
Subject: Urgent Request for Formation of Joint SIT in the Missing Person Case of Shabir Ahmad Shah (GD No. 0025A, PS Nabi Karim, Delhi)
Respected Sir,
I hope this letter finds you in good health. I am writing to bring to your immediate attention a matter of grave concern regarding the lack of progress in the investigation of Mr. Shabir Ahmad Shah (S/O Late Ghulam Nabi Shah, Age: 35 years), a resident of my constituency who has been missing since 16th February 2025, after checking out from the Continental Hotel, Delhi.
A General Diary entry (GD No. 0025A) was registered at Police Station Nabi Karim, Central District, Delhi, on 20th February 2025; however, despite repeated follow-ups by the family, no substantive progress has been made in locating him. The family is distraught and fears for his safety, given the prolonged silence from the investigating authorities.
What is particularly alarming is the inordinate delay in tracing Mr. Shabir Ahmad Shah, even after nearly two months have elapsed. The family has not been informed of any concrete steps taken by the Delhi Police, raising serious questions about the efficacy of the probe. Given the sensitive nature of this case, involving a Kashmiri resident disappearing in the national capital, and considering the growing anxiety of the family, this matter demands urgent higher-level intervention.
In light of these circumstances, I strongly urge your office to constitute a Joint Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising senior officers from the JK Police, relevant central agencies, along with the Delhi Police, to ensure a swift, transparent, and credible investigation. I also request your directions to the Delhi Police to expedite the case and provide regular updates to the grieving family. Your prompt intervention in this humanitarian matter would not only help deliver justice but also reinforce faith in our system.
I would be grateful for your earliest action in this regard. Please consider this matter with the urgency it deserves.
Yours sincerely,
Pertinently, during the Assembly session, MLA Kar also highlighted the case of Mr. Shabir Ahmad Shah, son of the late Ghulam Nabi Shah from Neharpora, Sopore, who has been missing in Delhi for more than a month. He discussed the matter in detail, urging the administration to intervene and assist the family in tracing their missing son.
