Baramulla, Feb 06 ; The administration in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday said it will conduct an avalanche disaster preparedness exercise at the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg on Saturday.
The two-hour mock drill, from 3 pm to 5 pm, is aimed at testing the coordination and response mechanisms of various agencies, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla said in an order.
The exercise will involve sirens, movement of emergency vehicles and deployment of response teams, but the public should not panic as it is only a simulation, the order stated accessed by Kashmir News Service (KNS).
It advised residents, tourists, hoteliers, shopkeepers and visitors to cooperate with the authorities and avoid spreading rumours.
People have been asked to avoid unnecessary movement in and around the identified exercise area during the scheduled time and to strictly follow any instructions issued by police, SDRF, Army or civil administration.
The order also cautioned against obstructing emergency responders or attempting to film or enter the exercise zone.
The mock drill is being conducted in the interest of public safety to ensure better preparedness during real disaster situations, it said. (KNS)
