KUPWARA, Sep 14: “Age Is No Bar For Learning” proved by a mother of three children by topping the Class 10th biannual exam in Kashmir valley, the results of which were declared earlier this week.

A 30-year-old woman of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, who left education in 2012 owing to family reasons appeared in the 10th biannual exam this year, after the gap of 10 years and touched the sky by topping in the examination.

As per data available, Sabreena Khaliq from Batergam area of Kupwara district has got 467 out of 500 marks, highest across Kashmir valley with a percentage of 93.4 and A1 grade in four subjects Maths, Urdu, Science, and Social Science.

Talking to the media she said, “I got too occupied in looking after the family after getting married in 2013 and bringing up my children. However, I had a dream of clearing the 10th exams someday, so I used to study whenever I got time. She said this year I decided to appear in the examination, however it was not easy to retain but after a lot of effort I came on track, she added.

She has two daughters and a son. Her eldest daughter is eight years old and studies in class 2.

Once a patriarchal society, the women of Kashmir are achieving heights in every field be it education, business or technology.

“The story of the mother of three children is the best example of modern Kashmir where women are treading the toughest paths and achieving feats,” said Ghulam Rasool, a local while talking to Kashmir Despatch, adding that the women have come out of that web where they were once put behind four walls doing household chores.

“They have come out of that stage and are doing wonders by their dedication and commitment. The ‘badalta Kashmir’ is witnessing a change where women not only lead the positions but go the extra mile to change the course of history,” said Mohammad Yousuf, a teacher who resides in Kupwara.
