Srinagar, Dec 31: In a first-ever celebration, the summer capital city of Srinagar hosted thousands of tourists and locals on Sunday evening to celebrate the New Year at the historical Ganta Ghar at Lal Chowk.
Eyewitnesses told Kashmir Despatch that this was the first time Srinagar city hosted such a celebration, which included music, dance, and other festivities. Not only tourists but also a large number of locals joined in the revelry.
A local woman who attended the event expressed her joy, while talking to Kashmir Despatch stating that it symbolized peace and celebration. She credited Prime Minister Modi for his efforts in making dreams come true for the people of Kashmir.
A BJP leader who participated in the event acknowledged the positive impact of the peaceful environment created by the revocation of Article 370. He stated that it was due to Prime Minister Modi’s dedication and efforts that this environment had been achieved.
The most spectacular moment of the event occurred when Fayaz Ahmad, a prominent social media personality from Kashmir known as “Fayaz Scorpio,” made his presence felt. The atmosphere reverberated with the enthusiastic chants, applause, and resounding whistles as participants and attendees acknowledged his arrival at the event.
Fayaz’s charismatic presence added an exhilarating energy to the ambiance, creating an unforgettable experience for all those present.
Since the removal of Article 370, which allowed non-residents to own property in Kashmir, the region has experienced a significant increase in tourism. The improvements in infrastructure, including better roads, expanded airports, and enhanced transportation networks, have contributed to this growth by improving connectivity and accessibility for travelers. In 2023 alone, over two crore tourists visited Kashmir, breaking previous records.
