Twitter users have been experiencing issues with blocking accounts. Twitter chief Elon Musk also acknowledged the ‘slight degradation of service’ and assured users that the problem has been fixed. In a tweet, Musk also highlighted the issues that caused the problem.
The problem was highlighted when some users were unable to block accounts on Twitter. Elon Musk claimed that the issue was caused due to degradation of service from an ‘old 3rd party tool’ that was being used to block accounts.
In his tweet, Musk said, “Twitter experienced slight degradation of service today from an old 3rd party tool used to block accounts that had no rate limit (sigh). Should be fixed now.”
Rate Limiting is a way in which platforms like Twitter are able to detect bots or even spammers. It helps detect online property misuse by users, bots, or even applications. Before the takeover, Elon Musk believed that bots were one of the most significant issues plaguing Twitter. He even tried to back out of the $44 billion deal on the pretext of excessive bots on the platform.
After the Musk takeover, Elon Musk has tried to introduce a new verified system. He introduced an $8 fee for the new Twitter Blue, which also offers the user with a Blue Tick verified badge. However, the company had to recall the feature within hours as many impersonators misused it to spread misinformation.
Elon Musk has announced that the new ‘Verified’ feature will now be introduced on December 2. He has also disclosed some of the features. Twitter will be introducing new colour-coded verified ticks. For instance, a Gold coloured tick will be offered to companies.
Musk explained the new system in a tweet. He said, “Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates. Painful, but necessary.” (IANS)
