NDTV suspends editor for Facebook post on Pulwama attack

Date:

NDTV has suspended one of it editors for a social media post on Thursday’s terror attack that killed 49 CRPF soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

The editor in question is one Nidhi Sethi, who had taken to her personal Facebook page to post about the Pulwama attack using a hashtag #HowstheJaish, which was a spin off version of hashtag #HowstheJosh, a popular dialogue from a recent hit Bollywood film Uri The Surgical Strike.

The film was based on the India’s so-called response against Pakistan in 2016 through a surgical strike targeting militants’ targets across the LoC.

Nidhi had written, “Where a grisly 44 has been proven to be greater than the mythical 56 #HowstheJaish.” The use of Jaish was in reference to the militant organisation Jaish-E-Mohammed, which later claimed responsibility for the Pulwama terror attack.

Condemning her action, NDTV tweeted on Friday, “NDTV strongly condemns what a Deputy News Editor of our website posted on her personal Facebook page about the tragic and dastardly Pulwama terror attack. She has been suspended for 2 weeks, effective immediately, while the company’s Disciplinary Committee weighs further action”
