Srinagar, June 9: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited bids for the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed Sumbal–Bandipora–Gurez road stretch in Jammu and Kashmir, marking a major step forward in a long-pending connectivity project for the region.
According to a tender notice issued through the Government e-Procurement System, a copy of which is in the possession of news agency Kashmir Dot Com, consultancy firms have been invited to undertake surveys, technical studies, alignment planning and other assessments necessary for the preparation of the DPR. The tender was published on June 8 and bids will be accepted till July 8, while technical bids are scheduled to be opened on July 9.
The consultancy assignment has been awarded a completion period of 365 days. The project is expected to lay the groundwork for a vital road corridor connecting Sumbal, Bandipora and the strategically important Gurez Valley.
The issuance of the tender has been welcomed by Bandipora MLA Nizamuddin Bhat, who described it as the outcome of sustained public efforts and collective resolve.
“Congratulations to the people of Bandipora. This achievement belongs to every citizen who believed in the cause and stood with us throughout this journey. Together, we turned a demand into a movement and a dream into reality,” Bhat told news agency Kashmir Dot Com.
He said the floating of the DPR tender represents a significant milestone towards the realization of a project that has remained a key public demand for years. The MLA expressed hope that the process would move ahead swiftly and culminate in the construction of a road that would enhance connectivity, boost economic opportunities and improve access to remote areas of the district.
Residents and stakeholders have long advocated for improved road infrastructure linking Bandipora with Gurez, citing its importance for tourism, trade and year-round connectivity. The DPR will serve as the foundation for determining the project’s technical feasibility, alignment and execution strategy before it moves to the construction stage.
