NHM Employees strike fall out: Govt has failed in Health Care System in J&K: KEA, CSF-H

SRINAGAR, Feb 8: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce (KCCI), Civil Society Forum Kashmir (CSFK-H), Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA), some eminent doctors and various other eminent organizations of the J&K state have slammed the Governor led administration for what it called ‘its failure in providing medical and healthcare in the J&K State especially in its far flung rural areas during the harsh winter conditions.

In a statement issued here, a spokesman has said: “It is for first time people of J&K State especially Kashmir are mercilessly suffering due to the failure of Government in keeping medical & health care intact during the harsh winters. The health care system has been badly affected by the strike of NHM employees over last 25 Days.”

The statement added: “It has also been reported that the important vaccination drive like pulse polio & others have been severely affected across J&K state. More than 65% of Health Centre including Primary Health Care Centre, Community Health Centre, and Sub District Hospital are already facing shortage of doctors and other paramedic staff. Now strike of NHM doctors has further worsened the situation across J&K State especially in for flung areas.”

The spokesman has observed: “The weather conditions across Kashmir valley are highly challengeable for the people, Government instead of providing relief has further worsened the scenario by not keeping Health Care intact. The statement read what is the fault of ordinary citizen that they are being made to suffer to the worst of miseries. Lakhs of Poor, Sick people have been made to suffer during these hard winter conditions by the present regime of the Government. The joint urges to the Government for immediate restoration of the health care across J&K State.”

The spokesman also appealed NHM employees to immediately call off the strike considering winter conditions across Kashmir valley on Humanitarian basis. Government should immediately respond and accept all the genuine grievances of the NHM Employees without any further delay.

Meanwhile, in a separate statement issued here, Farooq Amin, secretary general KCCI has said: In view of the problems being caused in dispensation of healthcare facilities due to the strike and protest of NHM employees for the past 25 days, the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Civil Society Forum Kashmir (CSFK-H), Kashmir Economic Alliance, eminent doctors and various other eminent organizations of the J&K state have intervened in the matter.

The secretary general of KCCI has said: “In this regard, after detailed discussions with the representatives of the employees, the above organisations and individuals are of the opinion that the Government, as an responsible employer,  needed to take note of all genuine grievances of these NHM employees and work towards redressal of the same.”

He has added: “The NHM Employees are also requested to resume their duties and work towards making the much needed healthcare facilities available to the population without fail. It would be pertinent to mention that due to the inclement weather conditions prevailing in the Valley, humanitarian service needed to take precedence over all other issues.”
