Srinagar, August 28: NITI Aayog Member Dr M. Srinivas on Friday highlighted the role of the CSIR–Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR-IIIM), Srinagar, in advancing scientific research, innovation and entrepreneurship in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing media representatives during his visit to the institute, Dr Srinivas discussed the potential of CSIR-IIIM’s research and technology-based initiatives to contribute to economic development, employment generation and improved livelihoods in the region.
He emphasised the importance of translating scientific research into practical applications and strengthening linkages between research institutions, industries and entrepreneurs.
The visit also focused on the research and innovation ecosystem being developed by CSIR-IIIM and its efforts to promote start-ups and technology-driven enterprises in Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr Srinivas reviewed the institute’s societal initiatives, including the Floriculture and Aroma Missions, which aim to promote high-value crops, strengthen value chains and create new opportunities for farmers and entrepreneurs.
During the visit, he interacted with officials and visited key facilities of CSIR-IIIM and the AIC-IIIM Bioinnovation Foundation. He took stock of the infrastructure, ongoing research activities and innovation initiatives being undertaken at the Srinagar centre.
The interaction also provided an opportunity to discuss how scientific research can be connected with agriculture, local industry, entrepreneurship and broader socio-economic development in Jammu and Kashmir.
The programme underscored the need to further strengthen the region’s research and innovation ecosystem while creating greater opportunities for young researchers, entrepreneurs, farmers and technology-driven enterprises.
