Pictures using candles, flashlights go viral on social media

KUPWARA, Jan 5: In what could be an appalling and bizarre situation, doctors are left with no option than treating patients using candles and flashlights due to lack of electricity in a Primary Health Center Drugmulla Village of North Kashmir’s Kupwara.
Viral pictures doing rounds on social media, reveals the appalling condition of the PHC Drugmulla, causing inconvenience to both staff and patient due to absence of electricity.
Owing to shortage of electricity, doctors are seen examining and treating patients using flashlights on their mobile phones and candles as well. Thus making a bad impression of Kupwara’s health sector.
The health centre continues to function without a transformer, however, it has a generator but that is reportedly out of fuel as well as operator.
Meanwhile, DDC member Drugmulla advocate Amina Majeed told a news agency KNS that she has taken up the issue several times with both district administration and the health department, but so far no concrete step has been taken.
“I have also shared the viral pictures with DC Kupwara and I am hopeful of some concrete solution this time,” she added. When contacted, chief medical officer Kupwara did not respond to repeated calls. (KNS)
