Jammu, April 30: The Election Commission of India announced on Tuesday that the dates for the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary seat have been changed from May 7 to May 25.
In an order received by Kashmir Despatch, the Election Commission of India had previously scheduled the Lok Sabha General Election on March 16, 2024. The Notification for Phase 3 was issued on April 12, 2024, with the Poll Day set for May 7, 2024.
Various political parties in the UT of Jammu & Kashmir have requested a shift in the polling date for the 3rd Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary Constituency due to logistical, communication, and natural barriers hindering campaigning and creating a lack of fair opportunities for the candidates in this constituency. These concerns may impact the voting process.
After considering reports from the UT administration and analyzing the ground situation, the Election Commission has decided, under Section 56 of the Representation of People Act, 1951, to revise the polling date for the ongoing General Election to Lok Sabha, 2024, as follows:
- Parliamentary Constituency: 3-Anantnag-Rajouri
- Notified Date of Poll: May 7, 2024 (Tuesday)
- Revised Date of Poll: May 25, 2024 (Saturday) reads the order.
