Both approach police; can register FIR only on court directions, says SHO

Sopore, Jun 28 : A day after councilors at Baramulla Municipal Council allegedly abused the employees and officials, the Assistant Executive Engineer, R&B on Wednesday accused a Sopore councilor of hurling invectives at him.
The official has submitted a protest leave and demanded the intervention of the higher-ups. The councilor on the other hand said the official also abused and threatened him and that he too has filed an application in the police station.
Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), Roads and Buildings Department, Sopore, Er Danish Iqbal said he was leaving for his duty in the early morning when a councilor of Ward 14 called him and talked in a “very derogatory and unparliamentary language”. “He also hurled abuses against me, my mother and my sister,” he alleged.
“Councilor, Irfan Ali further threatened me of taking my life for not having informed him about the macadamization of the Neharpora-Antoo Lane in town,” Iqbal alleged, “The work has been taken up under an approved plan of the R&B Department and I fail to understand why I along with the staff am repeatedly harassed by some councilors of MC Sopore”
“The councilor has also misbehaved with the site staff and made an attempt to threaten me,” Er Danish alleged.” Despite being the Arafa day when everyone is busy making preparations for Eid celebrations, my staff was discharging the duty on site.”
He submitted a protest leave till the matter is taken up with the higher authorities in the department and the administration.
Talking to KNO, President Municipal Council Sopore, Musarat Kar condemned the act and said that a councilor, who is an elected representative, shouldn’t behave likewise. There may be issues but one should never cross the boundaries, she said.
The accused councilor Irfan Ali, while talking to KNO, said that during early morning, the macadamization work was going on in his ward without his knowledge. “Upon calling the AEE R&B, he started shouting at me besides threatening me of taking my life. He also bragged that his maternal uncle is a top army official,” Ali alleged.
“Being a councilor and a public representative, I have every right over my ward,” Irfan said. “I have discussed the matter with the administration and have filed a written complaint in the Police Station Sopore.”
Meanwhile, SHO Sopore Khalid Fayaz told KNO that both parties have filed applications at the police station. “They have hurled abuses telephonically and the matter is non-cognizable and bailable,” he said “I have told them to approach the court as police can register FIR only on court directions.”—(KNO)
