NSE, SEBI Take Investor Awareness to Goa Trade Fair

GOA, August 23: In a significant push to deepen financial literacy and promote responsible participation in India’s securities market, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) and other securities-market participants have brought investor education to the heart of the 25th Goa International Trade Fair 2026.
The SEBI Investor Awareness Pavilion, organised as part of the trade fair being held from August 23 to 25, is seeking to turn a major public and commercial gathering into an accessible classroom on financial awareness, investor rights, fraud prevention and responsible investing.

The initiative reflects a broader effort by market institutions to take investor education beyond conventional financial platforms and place it in settings where ordinary citizens, traders, young people, families and prospective first-time investors can engage with financial concepts in a simple and practical manner.

The pavilion was inaugurated on the opening day of the fair by Shripad Yesso Naik, Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Power and Minister of State in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India.
The inauguration was attended by Vikas Sukhwal, CGM, Regional Director, Western Regional Office, SEBI; Naveen Sharma, CGM, SEBI; NSE officials; and representatives of other securities-market participants.
The participation of senior officials and market institutions underscores the importance being attached to strengthening investor education, financial literacy and investor protection at a time when increasing numbers of citizens are entering or exploring the securities market.
Taking financial literacy to the public
The Goa International Trade Fair, described as one of the region’s major platforms for trade, commerce and cultural exchange, provides an unusual but potentially powerful setting for investor education.

Rather than treating financial literacy as a subject confined to stock-market offices, investment seminars or digital platforms, the initiative seeks to take the conversation directly to a diverse public audience.
The underlying message is straightforward: just as successful trade and commerce depend on informed decisions, careful planning, trust, discipline and sound judgement, successful investing also requires knowledge, patience and informed decision-making.

The NSE is leveraging this connection between commerce and investment to communicate important investor-awareness messages in an engaging and easily understandable manner.
At the dedicated SEBI Investor Awareness Pavilion, visitors are being introduced to fundamental concepts relating to investor protection, financial literacy and safe participation in the securities market through interactive activities and simplified educational material.
The approach is particularly significant because financial decisions are increasingly being made by people who may have little or no formal understanding of capital markets. For such audiences, awareness of risks, rights and safeguards can be as important as understanding potential returns.

Focus on safe and informed investing
The investor-awareness campaign places strong emphasis on the principles that should underpin participation in the securities market.
Among the key messages being communicated at the pavilion are investor rights and responsibilities, informed investment decision-making, identification and avoidance of investment frauds and scams, safe and responsible participation in the securities market, and the basics of financial planning and investing.

The initiative also highlights the importance of using SEBI-verified applications and understanding the grievance-redressal mechanisms available to investors.
The emphasis on fraud prevention assumes particular importance in an increasingly digital financial environment, where investment-related scams can reach potential victims through social media, messaging platforms, fraudulent applications and unsolicited communications.

By familiarising visitors with basic safeguards and encouraging them to verify investment platforms and information before committing money, the awareness campaign seeks to build a more cautious and informed investor community.

Making investor education interactive
A notable feature of the pavilion is its emphasis on interactive learning rather than conventional lectures or printed advisories.
Visitors are being encouraged to participate in a range of activities, including quiz competitions, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and the ‘Scam No Game’ initiative.

The activities have been designed to make financial awareness more accessible, engaging and memorable, particularly for visitors who may be encountering concepts related to securities markets for the first time.
Such an approach also enables complex financial concepts to be communicated without relying heavily on technical terminology. Instead, participants can learn about safe investing, investor protection and financial responsibility through activities that are familiar and engaging.
The programme is intended to cater to a broad cross-section of society, including traders, young adults, families and first-time investors.
Bridging the gap between markets and ordinary citizens

The initiative comes against the backdrop of a rapidly evolving investment landscape in India, where access to financial markets has become considerably easier through digital platforms.
While greater accessibility has opened opportunities for millions of citizens, it has also increased the need for financial awareness. Easy access to investment platforms does not necessarily translate into an understanding of market risks, product suitability, fraud indicators or investor rights.
Against this backdrop, investor education has emerged as an important pillar of market development.

The Goa initiative seeks to bridge precisely this gap by bringing together SEBI, NSE, Market Infrastructure Institutions and other securities-market associations under one platform, allowing visitors to access information and understand avenues for grievance redressal.
The presence of multiple market participants at the pavilion also provides an opportunity for citizens to gain a broader understanding of how the securities-market ecosystem functions.

Beyond conventional awareness campaigns
For NSE, the Goa International Trade Fair represents an opportunity to move beyond conventional investor-awareness channels and connect with citizens in an environment that is informal, public and commercially vibrant.
The trade fair attracts people for reasons extending well beyond financial markets. By integrating investor education into such a setting, the initiative can potentially reach people who may not ordinarily attend an investment seminar or actively seek financial-literacy material.
The strategy also recognises that financial awareness is not exclusively a concern for existing investors. People considering their first investment, young adults beginning their financial journeys and families seeking to understand basic financial planning can all benefit from accessible information.
The initiative therefore places financial literacy within a wider framework of responsible financial citizenship.

Empowering investors through knowledge
At its core, the campaign seeks to reinforce a simple principle: informed investors are better positioned to make responsible financial decisions.

Understanding one’s rights and responsibilities, assessing investment decisions carefully, recognising warning signs of fraud, using verified applications and knowing where to seek redressal can significantly strengthen investor protection.
The pavilion’s activities are consequently designed not merely to explain the securities market but to encourage a culture of caution, research and informed participation.
For first-time investors in particular, such awareness can help distinguish legitimate investment opportunities from fraudulent schemes and reduce the risk of decisions based solely on unsolicited advice, promises of quick returns or incomplete information.

A wider message from Goa
The NSE said the initiative seeks to use the popularity and reach of the Goa International Trade Fair to communicate investor-awareness messages to a wider and more diverse audience.

By placing financial literacy alongside trade and commerce, the campaign draws attention to the common principles that underpin both successful business and responsible investing: informed decision-making, careful planning, discipline, patience and trust.
The three-day initiative, running from August 23 to 25, thus represents more than a conventional awareness programme. It is an attempt to bring the language of investor protection into a public space where commerce, entrepreneurship and everyday economic activity converge.

As India’s investment landscape continues to broaden, efforts such as the SEBI Investor Awareness Pavilion underline the growing importance of ensuring that market participation is accompanied by knowledge.
The larger objective is clear: to make financial awareness more accessible, make investors more informed and ensure that greater participation in the securities market is matched by greater understanding of both opportunity and risk.
