Observe Friday as ‘Palestine and Kashmir Day’: Geelani

Date:

Srinagar, May 30 : Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani has appealed Muslims of the State to observe the last Friday of Ramadan as “Palestine and Kashmir Day”.

He also made a fervent appeal to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to ponder on the present critical political scenario at the international level and chalk out an effective strategy to address the challenges faced by the Muslim community at internal and external fronts.

In a statement issued, Geelani said both Palestine and Kashmiri people have suffered too much since their long subjugation.

“Both India and Israel are in close relation to suppress the legitimate and popular voice of the people of both regions,” he said.

He urged the world community to shun its silence on the inhuman atrocities, killings in both these regions and help resolve both long pending issues recognized by United Nations Organizations.

Hurriyat (G) chairman appealed Muslims to pray for Kashmir and Palestine during Friday prayers.

Meanwhile, Geelani has condemned the use of brute force at several places of south Kashmir and the killing of a civilian Sajad Ahmad Parray of Buderhama, Shopian by government forces.

He expressed deep grief and condolence with the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, Geelani has lauded the “strong commitment and steadfastness” displayed by the incarcerated chairman of Muslim League Jammu Kashmir Masarat Aalam Bhat.

He condemned slapping of 38th Public Safety Act (PSA) against Masarat Aalam and said “it is a sheer political vengeance and a vile act of trampling the freedom of expression and civil liberty of a renowned political leader”.
