One more militant killed in Shopian, toll 2

Shopian, Oct 20 : One more militant has been killed in an ongoing gunfight at Melhoora area of Shopian in South Kashmir, taking the toll of killing militants to 2.

An official told Kashmir Despatch that today morning after resumed the operation which was suspended for night due to darkness, one more militant has been killed. He said total two militants were killed in the operation sofar.

The officer however, said the identification of both slain militants is yet to be ascertained.

Earleir on Monday evening a joint team of Army’s 55 RR, SOG and CRPF conducted searches in Melhoora area following inputs about the presence of some militants.

As search party encircled the target house the hidding militants fired upon them thus triggering a gunfight.

In the initial stage of gunfight one militant was killed he added.

Pertinently, Suspected gunmen shot dead a police officer in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Monday evening.

As per official details available with Kashmir Despatch that the gunmen attacked the officer, Inspector Mohammad Ashraf, as he was returning home after offering prayers.

He was rushed to hospital in critical condition. However the doctors declared him brought dead on arrival.
