Opening Higher Secondary Schools: No takers for parent teachers meet in Kashmir

Date:

Srinagar, Oct 1 : A day after Jammu and Kashmir government ordered the opening of schools up to higher secondary level on October 3 and had proposed a Parent- Teacher meet on October 1st, there was no response from the parents in Kashmir on Tuesday.

According to wire service reports said that the schools and higher secondary schools across Kashmir continued to wear desolate look despite government’s repeated appeals to the parents for sending their wards to schools. On Monday, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan directed all the Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir and other concerned officers to ensure that all the schools are opened by October 3.

Students of schools- primary to higher secondary level, colleges and universities in the Kashmir have stayed away from classes in wake of abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A by Government of India, on August 5.

“Not a single working day was reported in any school in last 58 straight days in Kashmir,” a senior government functionary told KNO adding, government has simply issued orders rather than showing keen interest even to open the primary level schools.

He said the government has not ensured the safety of primary level children in last over seven weeks and how come they (authorities) expect that parents would compromise with the safety of their children.

There has always been apprehensions about the law and order situation after any major happening in the Kashmir and the first causality was the schools and colleges, which are been forcibly shut by the authorities.

“I fail to understand the logic of government, on one hand they impose section 144 to bar the gathering of more than four people at a place and at the same time they ordered the opening of schools and colleges,” Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Rainawari said.

The government is issuing orders only to show the outside world that officially everything was normal and all the departments of functioning officially, which is otherwise on the ground. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has also ordered the opening of colleges on 9th October across Kashmir.(KNO)
