Bandipora, July 22: Security forces have detained more than 130 suspected Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and launched a series of raids across north Kashmir’s Bandipora district as part of a major counter-terrorism crackdown following the recent terror attack in Anantnag that left a police head constable dead.
Official sources said the detentions were made during coordinated search and verification operations conducted at multiple locations across the district. The operation, based on specific intelligence inputs, is aimed at identifying and dismantling alleged terror support networks and preventing any attempt to disturb peace and security.
The intensified crackdown has been accompanied by heightened security measures across Bandipora. Additional police and security personnel have been deployed at sensitive locations, while vehicle checking, frisking, surveillance and area domination patrols have been significantly stepped up.
Sources said those detained are being questioned as part of the verification process, and further action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation. The search operations are continuing in several parts of the district.
The heightened operations come amid an intensified anti-terror campaign across Kashmir in the wake of the Anantnag attack, with security agencies increasing surveillance and preventive measures to thwart militant activities. No official statement has been issued on the number of arrests or any recoveries made during the ongoing operations.
