ADGP calls for freezing accounts of drug dealers, smugglers in Jammu region

Jammu — Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Anand Jain on Sunday reviewed the ongoing measures against drug trafficking and substance abuse in the Jammu region and called for freezing the accounts and properties of drug dealers and smugglers as a decisive action against them.

The ADGP directed the officers to map out vulnerable areas, conduct focused operations and ensure the proper maintenance of chain of custody and documentation to secure convictions.

Chairing a review meeting to assess and reinforce anti-drug measures, Jain took a detailed appraisal of efforts to combat the trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and their consumption, a police spokesperson said.

He emphasized the critical need for collaborative action and robust inter-agency coordination to dismantle drug networks operating in Jammu.

The meeting focused on strengthening surveillance, enhancing intelligence sharing and stepping up community awareness campaigns, particularly in high-risk areas, the spokesperson added.

Acknowledging the recent successes in reducing drug-related activity, the ADGP urged continued efforts to counter the evolving tactics of drug networks.

To improve conviction rates, he instructed the officers to identify vulnerable areas, conduct targeted operations and ensure meticulous documentation and investigation practices.

The ADGP stressed the necessity of thorough investigations and prosecutorial assessments to ensure the conviction of the accused. He also directed the Crime Branch Jammu to develop guidelines and investigative modules to enhance the effectiveness of officers handling narco-related cases.

Additionally, Jain highlighted the importance of attaching properties acquired through drug trafficking and freezing accounts linked to known and suspected drug dealers and smugglers, particularly in the border regions.

He further directed the officers to identify skilled and experienced investigators to handle narco cases effectively. — (PTI)

In a heartbreaking incident, a family of five lost their lives due to suffocation caused by heating equipment.

In a handout, the Chief Minister conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved relatives, praying for strength and patience to help them cope with this irreparable loss.

While praying for the departed souls, the Chief Minister urged people to exercise utmost caution while using heating gadgets during the harsh winter months.

He emphasized the importance of adhering to government-issued advisories on the safe use of heating equipment to prevent such tragic incidents.

Srinagar, Jan 05 : In a shocking incident, the husband-wife duo and their three children died tragically due to suffocation on Sunday evening, officials said.

A shocking incident occurred at Pandrathan area of Srinagar, where five members of a family died tragically due to suffocation, officials said.

A senior police official said that five family members living in a rented accommodation in Pandrathan area of Srinagar died late at night after falling unconscious due to suffocation.

He said the family was living in a rented accommodation and were originally hailing from Baramulla.

They were shifted to the hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, their identification has not been confirmed while an investigation has been taken up—(KNO)

PM Modi to Boost Connectivity with Major Railway Projects Inauguration on January 6

NEW DELHI, Jan 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several significant railway projects on January 6 at 12:30 PM via video conferencing. These initiatives aim to enhance connectivity, infrastructure, and socio-economic development in key regions across India.

A key highlight of the event will be the inauguration of the new Jammu Railway Division. Spanning 742.1 kilometers, this division covers vital routes including Pathankot-Jammu-Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla, Bhogpur Sirwal-Pathankot, Batala-Pathankot, and Pathankot to Joginder Nagar sections. The creation of the Jammu Railway Division fulfills a long-pending aspiration of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

This project is set to transform the region by improving connectivity with the rest of India. It is expected to generate employment opportunities, foster infrastructure development, promote tourism, and contribute to the overall socio-economic growth of Jammu and Kashmir and its neighboring areas.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Charlapalli New Terminal Station in Telangana. Located in the Medchal-Malkajgiri district, this state-of-the-art terminal has been developed at a cost of approximately ₹413 crore. It features a second entry and modern passenger amenities. The terminal, designed as an eco-friendly facility, will ease congestion at other busy terminals in Hyderabad, such as Secunderabad, Hyderabad, and Kacheguda stations.

Further, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for the Rayagada Railway Division Building under the East Coast Railway. This division will improve railway connectivity in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and adjoining regions, fostering socio-economic growth and enabling better integration with the national railway network.

The Prime Minister’s focus on expanding India’s railway infrastructure underscores the government’s commitment to connecting underserved regions, promoting economic activity, and ensuring sustainable development. These projects, once operational, will serve as catalysts for progress in Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana, and Odisha, along with their neighboring states.

LMD books Petrol Pump at Anantnag Highway for short delivery

Anantnag — A team of the Enforcement unit of Legal Metrology Anantnag today booked a Petrol Pump located on National Highway Anantnag for delivering deficit fuel to the consumers.

During the surprise inspection using the standard verified measure, it was found that a Nozzle of the Petrol Pump was delivering fuel by 30 ml short against every 5 Litres.

The display boards showing the quantity delivered to consumers was not matching with the actual delivery as a result the nozzle was seized on spot and the prosecution as warranted under relevant sections of Legal Metrology Act has been initiated against the offender.

It is pertinent to mention that accuracy in the quantity of goods or the fuel is the basic right of consumers and any under-delivery of goods and services is a serious offence in terms of Legal Metrology Act 2009.

The consumers have been given the power to check the delivery on their own by using the verified 5 Litre conical measure which must be kept visible by the owners of every petrol pump and it is the duty of every Petrol pump owner to facilitate the checking of fuel delivery to the best satisfaction of consumer.

The inspection and the subsequent action was lauded by the Consumers in the area who were also apprised about their consumer rights. In case of any such complaints, consumers are asked to lodge complaints with the department on the Toll Free Number 18001807114.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various railway projects on 6th January at 12:30 PM via video conferencing.

In a key move to further boost connectivity in the region, Prime Minister will inaugurate the new Jammu Railway Division. He will also inaugurate the Charlapalli New Terminal Station in Telangana and lay the foundation stone of Rayagada Railway Division Building of East Coast Railway.

Creation of the Jammu Railway Division, with 742.1 KM comprising Pathankot – Jammu – Udhampur – Srinagar – Baramulla, Bhogpur Sirwal – Pathankot, Batala – Pathankot and Pathankot to Joginder Nagar sections, will significantly benefit Jammu and Kashmir and surrounding regions, fulfilling the long pending aspiration of the people and improving connectivity to other parts of India. It will create employment opportunities, infrastructure development, promote tourism and lead to overall socio-economic development of the region.

Charlapalli New Terminal Station in the Medchal-Malkajgiri District of Telangana has been developed as a new coaching terminal along with provision of second entry with a cost of around Rs 413 crore. This environment friendly terminal, having good passenger amenities, will ease congestion on the existing coaching terminals in the city like Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Kacheguda.

02 Drug peddlers arrested in Pampore

Awantipora, Jan 05 : Continuing its drive against the Drug peddlers and its propagators, Awantipora Police arrested drug peddlers from Pampore area .

During naka Checking at literbal Pampore near gas plant ,Police party of Police Station Pampore under the supervision of SDPO Pampore arrested 02 drug peddlers identified as :

  1. Tariq Ahmad Mir S/o Abdul Salam R/o Tulbagh Pampore, Javid Ahmad Dar S/o Mohd Akram Dar R/o Lalpora Chatlam.

The arrested persons were moving in a suspicious circumstances and during search 840 grams of grinded Cannabis like substance was recovered from their possession .

Case FIR No. 3/2025 under relevant section of NDPS Act stands registered in Police Station Pampore.

GoI sanctions 85 houses under Special PMAY-G Project for FY 2024-25

Jammu, Jan 05 : The Government of India has approved a special project under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) to provide housing assistance to the fire victims of Mulwarwan village in the Warwan Valley of Kishtwar district.

A devastating fire on October 15 last year destroyed numerous houses, leaving several families homeless. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who assumed office on October 16, promptly visited the affected area the following day and assured the victims of long-term rehabilitation. He also pledged to secure assistance from the Central Government to help the families rebuild their homes and restore their lives.

The approval for this special housing package follows Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s appeal to the Central Government, requesting additional financial assistance for the long-term rehabilitation of the affected families.

The Chief Minister emphasized the urgency of housing aid under PMAY-G to help the families rebuild their homes and return to normalcy.

In this regard, the Ministry of Rural Development, Department of Rural Development (Rural Housing Division), has formally communicated this approval to the Secretary of the Department of Rural Development, UT Government of Jammu & Kashmir.

According to the communication, up-to 85 houses (including 7 earlier PMAY-G beneficiaries) have been allocated under the special project for the financial year 2024-25.

Dermopedia CME at Cutis Institute of Dermatology highlights Advances in Atopic disorders in children and skin care in the affected children

Srinagar,Jan 05 ; An interdisciplinary meeting of dermatology specialists and pediatricians was organized at Cutis Institute of Dermatology Hyderpora Srinagar on 1st January 2025.

The Continuing Medical Education (CME) session, entitled Dermopedia Meet, provided in-depth insights into common pediatric skin disorders, the skin microbiome, and the increasing prevalence of eczema among children.

The event brought together some of the foremost experts in the field, including Dr. Imran Majid, Dr Shafat Tak, Dr. Suhail Naik, and Dr. Aqib Zaffer Banday, a renowned pediatric rheumatologist.


The CME opened with a detailed presentation by Dr. Imran Majid, Director Cutis Institute of Dermatology. He welcomed the guests and shared his expertise on the most prevalent skin disorders affecting children today. Dr. Majid also stressed the need for better awareness among pediatricians and dermatologists about common skin conditions, such as atopic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis and others which form a significant percentage of daily OPD in any hospital or health centre.
Dr Farah Sameem, renowned consultant dermatologist at SKIMS Medical College presented her talk on how neonatal and infant skin differs from adult skin and the challenges faced in taking good care of the infant skin. Dr. Suhail Naik, one of the most well-known pediatricians from the valley, followed with an engaging lecture on skin care, and the hazards of using ointments and creams with harmful ingredients in them. He highlighted the importance of knowing about the preservatives, colorants, and stabilizers used in skin care products which can cause different cancers and neurodevelopmental disorders in later in life. Dr Naik further detailed that it is high time to focus on harmful ingredients and additives used in drugs or food ,as they can cause different behavioral disorders.


Adding another layer of complexity to the conversation, Dr. Aqib, an expert pediatric rheumatologist, shared his knowledge on the complex interactions between genes, environmental factors, and the immunopathology of pediatric skin disorders specifically atopic disorders. His talk also touched upon the emerging field of personalized medicine, which tailors treatment based on individual genetic profiles to ensure more effective and precise therapeutic interventions.


The presentations were followed by an engaging discussion in which all the faculty and delegates participated enthusiastically. Participants were able to engage with experts, ask questions, and gain valuable insights into the increasing incidence of atopic disorders in children and the new treatment options and routine care in such patients The CME session provided an opportunity for networking among peers, promoting collaboration in research and clinical practice.

Conman Arrested By Police In Srinagar for Fraudulent Promise of Police Favour

Police Station Nowhatta received a written complaint from an individual namely Showkat Ahmad Sheikh, son of Bakhtawar Sheikh, resident of Zahid Pora, Hawal, alleging therein that a conman, identified as Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohd Sultan Sheikh, resident of Sheikh Colony, Makhdoom Sahib, had fraudulently taken Rs 30,000 from him to secure the release of Showkat’s brother namely Sajad Sheikh, from the custody of Police in connection with Case FIR No. 55/2024 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act.

It is pertinent to mention here that Sajad Sheikh, son of Bakhtawar Sheikh, resident of Sheikh Colony, Hawal, was lawfully arrested by Police Station Nowhatta in the aforementioned case. However, the accused person namely Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh, exploited the situation by falsely claiming influence to arrange the release of complainant’s brother from custody, thereby, fraudulently taking Rs 30,000 from the complainant.

Taking cognizance of the complaint, Police Station Nowhatta registered case FIR No. 01/2025 under Section 318 of BNS.
During investigation, Police successfully recovered the entire amount from the accused person.
Further investigation into the case is going on.
