Body of 35-year old found in Pulwama village

Srinagar, July 31 : A body of 35-year old man was found at Yar Kalampora area of Shadimarg a in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday.

Reports reaching said that some locals spotted the body at Yar Kalampora area and immediately informed police about it.

A police team reached the site and recovered the body.

Confirming it, a police officer identified the deceased as Abdul Gani Wagay (35) son of Ghulam Hassan Wagay of Sehpora village.

He said that the deceased according to reports was mentally unsound.

A case under 174 CrPc has been initiated and further investigations taken up to ascertain the cause of death. (GNS)

Woman dies, health official injured in Gurez shelling

Srinagar, July 31 : A woman died while as a health official suffered injuries after India and Pakistani armies exchange shelling in Gurez sector of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district late Tuesday evening.

Reports reaching said that the woman namely Rahimi Begum (35) wife of Abdul Ahad Bhat and the employee of health department Manzoor Ahmad Malik sustained serious wounds after a shell landed in the residential area of Bagtore Gurez late last evening.

Both the injured were immediately taken to nearby hospital from where the woman was referred to SMHS Srinagar in critical conditions, they said. However, the woman later at around 2:00am succumbed to injuries.

A police officer said that the duo were injured on Tuesday night after a shell fired by Pakistani forces landed in the residential area of Bagtore.

He confirmed that the woman succumbed later in SMHS hospital here. (GNS)

Hizb ousts Adil Ganaie

Srinagar, July 30: Militant outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen on Tuesday said it has ousted one of its men for resorting to “un-Islamic” acts.

A Hizb spokesperson in a statement issued to GNS said that Adil Ahmad Ganaie son of Gulzar Ahmad Ganaie resident of Dholan, Budgam has been ousted from the outfit and disarmed for resorting to “un-Islamic” acts and after complaints by people.

He said Adil had joined Hizb on 25-01-2019.

“From now onwards, Adil Ahmad Ganaie has nothing to do with the Hizb,” the spokesperson said. (GNS)

Govt forms panel for overseeing implementation of road map for Halfway Homes

Srinagar, July 30 : The State government on Tuesday constituted a Monitoring Committee for overseeing the implementation of Road Map for setting up of Halfway Homes and Institutional arrangements for Rehabilitation of Long Stay Patients in light of the direction passed by the Supreme Court.  

The seven member committee has been constituted pursuant to the decisions taken in the meeting chaired by the Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and co-chaired by the Secretary Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities on 22 April this year, a government order issued here reads, according to news agency. 

The Monitoring Committee has been tasked to oversee the implementation of the Road Map periodically for rehabilitation of long stay patients in the State of Jammu & Kashmir;  Workout the Road Map clearly indicating the timeline for setting up of Halfway Homes and Institutional arrangements for rehabilitation of long stay patients of mental illness.

Besides, the terms of reference for the panel includes setting up of the Halfway/long stay homes in rented accommodation in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Central Government to take care of the rehabilitation of mentally cured patients who are homeless or are not taken back by their families. Father of the girl turns out to be the murderer

Srinagar, July 30, : Jammu and Kashmir Police has claimed to have arrested a person, in connection of the murder of his daughter in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.


The police said that the murder of the girl by her father took place following a disagreement over her marriage proposal.
According to the police statement, one person namely Javed Ahmed Khan son of Rehmatullah Khan, Resident of Lardipora has been arrested for killing his daughter and then dumping her body in the forest area of Kawharbala.


“During the investigation by the sleuths of Crime Branch, learnt that Javed Khan had taken his daughter inside the forest area, where he murdered her following an argument about fixing her marriage, which led to disagreement, between the two”, he said.


The accused has been taken into custody after being arrested by the police, while the body of the murdered girl was handed over to the family after completing medico-legal formalities.


According to police, experts from FSL also visited the site of the crime to gather vital pieces of physical and material evidence related to the crime.
Police has registered a case in the matte in Police Station Chandoosa under FIR no: 23/2019, under the relevant sections of law and further investigation has been taken up.

Srinagar police launches anti-drugs helpline number

Srinagar, July 30, : Srinagar Police have launched a helpline to strengthen its intelligence mechanism to nab drug peddlers and smugglers.

Srinagar Police requests general public to provide information related to drug peddling. Drug menace is one of the major problem faced by the state and is taking heavy toll on the young generation and society as a whole.

Senior superintendent of police Srinagar Dr. M. Haseeb Mughal-JKPS while dedicating the helpline to general public said that anyone who has any information about drug-peddling can contact on helpline number 9596770538, or send us WhatsApp messages, pictures & videos as well.

This helpline will be open 24X7 and the identity of the person revealing the information will be kept secret. The information providers will also be awarded suitably, if the information proves to be genuine and leads to recovery of drugs.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighborhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.

Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.

Accreditation Programme On Quality Assurance, Good Lab Practices Inaugurated At SKIMS

SRINAGAR, July 30: A two-day accreditation programme on quality assurance and good lab practices was today inaugurated at Sher i Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS).

The programme is unique in the sense that it shall pave a way to get the Clinical Biochemistry lab as the first lab in the state to get accredited at SKIMS by ‘The quality assurance council of India’.

Prof Venkatesh Thuppil popularly known as ‘The lead man of India’ was the chief guest at the occasion. He emphasized on raising awareness about quality evaluation of clinical tests among the general public so that they don’t have to compromise on the quality of test results. He congratulated the SKIMS administration for taking lead role in getting clinical biochemistry lab accredited. He hoped that other institutes from the state would also follow the suit.

Prof Abbas Ali Mehdi, Vice Chancellor Era University Lucknow who was the guest of honor, expressed his happiness over the conduct of this event and congratulated Dr Syed Mudassar, HOD Cl. Biochemistry for taking up such a big challenge.

Director SKIMS Prof O J Shah deliberated on the legacy that SKIMS right from its inception has been carrying forward and asserted the younger generation medical students to take a cue from the stalwarts in the field of medicine.

Medical Superintendent SKIMS Prof Farooq Jan deliberated upon the entire preparations and the highs and lows the team went through in pursuit of conducting this event.

Around 350 delegates from across the country participated in the event. Along the sidelines of the conference, a model competition for the students showcasing their scientific talent and creativity was also conducted.

Militant involved in the killing of SHO Arshid Khan killed along with associate: Police

Anantnag, July 30, : Two militants were killed in a gunfight here in Bijbehara town of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

   A police official said that on a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by police and security forces in Katoo Bijbehara area of District Anantnag.

   During the search operation, the hiding militants fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.

In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. 

    The police official said that incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter.

    Later in a tweet, Jammu Kashmir Police said that one of the slain militants was Jaish-e-Muhammad Commander Fayaz Ahmed Panzoo and his killing is a big achievement.

    “Big achievement. Another top Commander of Jaish Fayaz Panzoo killed along with his associate. He was involved in attack on CRPF at Anantnag town on June 12, 2019 in which 5 CRPF Personnel were killed and SHO Arshad Khan was seriously injured who later succumbed to injuries,” police tweeted.

  Another militant was identified as Shan Showkat Bhat. 

Two infiltrators killed near LoC in Gurez

Srinagar, July 30 : Two militants were killed in an encounter at Baktur area of Gurez near Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Tuesday.

Official sources told news agency that a fierce gunfight broke out between militants and soldiers of 36 RR along the LoC at Nowshera Nar area of Baktur in Gurez sector today evening.
An army officer, however, said that the alert troops foiled the infiltration bid in the area.

He said that two infiltrators were killed during the gunfight.
The officer said that the operation is still going on in the area. (GNS)

MMU expresses concern over govt order to profile masjid committees

Srinagar, Jul 30 : Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema, valley’s biggest conglomerate of Ulema, scholars, imams and khateebs headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Tuesday expressed serious concern over government order regarding profiling of masjid committees Imams and khateebs.

In a statement issued , they said such orders create suspicion which only further vitiate the situation on ground.

In the joint statement MMU said all masjids belonging to all sects across the valley are sacred to the people and evoke strong emotions as it is here that Muslims bow their heads before the Almighty five times a day. They are not only places of worship but also basic learning centres imparting knowledge of Islam and preaching principles of humanity. The mosques across Kashmir are known as centres for spreading the message of communal harmony, tolerance and social awakening.

The statement said that any move of profiling masjids etc will deeply hurt the religious sentiments of people and would evoke a strong response from them. MMU said that it will observe the situation closely and a meeting would be called to discuss the issue.
