‘Under Industrial policy, they will get 30% subsidy, insurance, working capital’

Anantnag, Jul 28 : Principal Secretary, Tourism and Industries, Navin Kumar Choudhary Sunday said under Industrial Policy incentives, bat manufacturing units in Kashmir will receive a boost in coming days.

Talking to news agency here on the side lines of a function, he said, “I had met two months back with bat manufacturers and for the last 70 years two of their problems were not addressed. One was clearance from the forest department due to which they were not getting any incentives from the government.”

“Second was they were not having any plant to manufacture the world class bats. I requested Forest Secretary and within a 15-days-time, he ensured the forest clearance for them. Now our Department has declared it as Sports Industrial Zone. Under Industrial policy, they will get all the incentives, like 30 percent subsidy, insurance, working capital and DG sets,” Choudhary said.

He announced by December they will get a modern bat manufacturing plant and that will be handed over to them (bat manufacturers). “If Kashmir willow is the best in world, then best bat should also be manufactured form Kashmir. We are hopeful that this area will export at least Rs five crore goods,” Choudhary said.

“Hundreds of families in Anantnag and Pulwama districts are dependent on bat industry. It was running on lower level till now and I am hopeful with these facilities this area will get a lot of economic boost,” he added.

On the working of tourism development authorities, Choudhary said, “These authorities have become engineering departments. The aim for which they were formed have not been achieved. Within a month’s time Tourism Department will go the SAC for restructuring of all developmental authorities. We will launch theme-based tourism in a month’s time.”

Says provocations breeds only alienation

Srinagar, Jul 28 : Observing that entire population in Kashmir was reeling under the grip of constant fear and panic over the rumours of scraping of Article 35-A, Chairman Peoples Democratic Front (PDF), Hakeem Yaseen has asked the center to clear the dust on the matter. He said deployment of additional 10000 troops in Kashmir valley have further compounded the already grim situation, plunging the people in an atmosphere of intense anxiety and scare.

In a statement issued, Hakeem Yaseen, while expressing his concern over the rumours about threat to Article 35-A, has urged the central government to come clear over the issue that has plunged entire population in the Kashmir into panic and scare. He has asked the center to desist from commenting on sensitive constitutional issues till an elected government was in place in the state.

He said Article 370 and Article 35-A has constitutional and emotional ramifications attached to it which needs to be kept in view while commenting on its validity. He said Art. 35-A was irrevocable and only an elected civilian government can deliberate on various dimensions of the issue.

Cautioning the center against any misadventure on Article 370 and Article 35-A, Hakeem Yaseen said that exploitation of constitutional and sensitive political issues for petty politicking would only cause further alienation among the people. He said it was in larger interest of the country to leave all the constitutional matters and provision upto the elected government to deliberate, including Article 35-A, which guarantees special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Hakeem Yaseen said that the turmoil ravaged people of Kashmir need humanitarian treatment to heal up their wounds rather than provocation of their emotions and sentiments for petty political gains.

“Center should adopt a cautious approach to win hearts and minds of the people of Kashmir instead of provoking their psyche,” Hakeem Yaseen maintained while cautioning against any move aiming at to tamper with Article 370 and Article 35-A.

“Any misadventure to tinker with the constitutional guarantees to the people of the state shall have adverse affects on the relations between Kashmir with rest of the country,” Hakeem Yaseen remarked.

‘Ready to go to jail for protecting J&K’s special status’

Srinagar, Jul 28 : Asserting that her party would fight tooth and nail to protect the special status of J&K at any cost, former chief minister and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti Sunday said that let it be very clear that those who touch our special status would actually be triggering a bomb that would lead to devastation.

“We are facing and onslaught. Our special status and identity is being targeted. We are being disempowered politically and economically. In such times, PDP will take lead to fight such designs. You will have to be prepared to fight a long and hard battle that would require us to render more sacrifices,” she said while addressing a function here to celebrate the PDP’s 20th Raising Day.

“We have been selectively harassed in past and may see so in future too, because everyone knows that ours is the only Party that will stand strong as a wall against attacks on our special status,” Mehbooba said.

The PDP president said that while the state is witnessing an onslaught on its special status and “attempts are being made to disempower our people politically and economically, PDP will fight such designs tooth and nail at any cost.”

She criticised National Conference leader Omar Abdullah’s statement that “Government of India must wait for Supreme Court’s final verdict on Articles 35-A, 370.”

“He (Omar) told New Delhi not to fiddle with Article 35 and wait for Supreme Court verdict. But I ask you is any person in J&K ready to accept the fiddling of Article 35A by the Supreme Court or any other institution. We convey to the Center that any tinkering with Article 35A will be like setting powder keg on fire,” Mehbooba warned.

“If any hand tries to touch Article 35A, not only that hand, but that whole body will be burnt to ashes,” the former CM warned.

“Even if Mehbooba Mufti is jailed for this, you shouldn’t feel low. We are ready for anything, but PDP will not allow fiddling with special status of Jammu and Kashmir,” she told her workers.

“Till the time we kept BJP engaged, we insulated the state from any step from the centre against our special status. It was no small thing to get Modi Lead union government to do month long ceasefire in the state, appoint a cabinet secretary rank interlocutor and make many offers of unconditional dialogue at the union home minister level. But we did achieve all this,” she added.

The former CM asked party workers to rededicate themselves to the agenda of peace and development through dialogue and reconciliation as envisioned by PDP founder late Mufti Muhammad Syeed.

Mehbooba asserted that PDP’s agenda is the only viable roadmap to get the state out of political uncertainty and that the party has proven track record of delivering on its promises.

“Whether it was the government lead by mufti sahib in 2002 or the subsequent times, PDP lead the way towards a peaceful and prosperous J&K. Getting New Delhi and Islamabad to engage, initiating dialogue with the separatists, disbanding Task Force, giving incentives of the improving security situation to common people & ushering in a new era of development in the state have been the hall mark of PDP rule in the state, She said.

Underlining how late Mufti reined in even the staunchest opponents of state’s special status and dialogue, Mehbooba reminded that the ‘Agenda of Alliance; between PDP and Bhratiya Janata Party (BJP) saw BJP giving in writing that they won’t touch the special constitutional status of J&K & would pursue a policy of engagement and dialogue with Pakistan and separatists for the resolution of Kashmir problem.
