Three-year Tourism Diploma holders in trouble after completion of the course: Adv Sajad Sheikh

0

Jammu and Kashmir Peoples’ Movement chief spokesperson advocate Sajad Sheikh here on today supports the issue of students with a three-year diploma in travel tourism and hospitality management from different polytechnic colleges across the state.

A students delegation met the chief spokesperson here at the head office Rajbagh with a grievance of there future course into different fields. Unfortunately, there is no opportunity for the said students as tourism department failed to provide them with any job opportunity.

The student said they have no lateral entry option for going further in studies. There is no job opportunity as no such job notification was issued by the government over the years. In addition, there is no practical training for the concerned students, they further added.

This said course was started in 2004, under the World Bank aided Project Tech Ed III. The students said they are facing eligibility crises, as no department is allowing them to do the job under this diploma course.

There is no proper title – when it comes to the issuance of diploma certificates. As per syllabus it says, the students are pursuing a Diploma in Travel Tourism and Hospitality Management but at the time of certificates some are getting titled under travel tourism and some under tourism and hospitality, the students added.

As the prospects of the said course, there is a vast field where these students can be adjusted but the irony is that none of the mentioned posts allows them to take part, as when they apply for such posts they are being asked you are not eligible, students told Sheikh.

JKPM appeals the state authorities to look into the matter, it is the matter of future of these diploma holders. They did this diploma for their welfare and a better future, but as of now, they are moving from pillar to post in order to get the grievance redressed.

Ayodhya issue: Ram Janambhoomi Nyas says mediation panel not needed

0

Lucknow, July 18 With the mediation panel set to submit its report to the Supreme Court on the Ayodhya dispute, Ram Janambhoomi Nyas said on Thursday that such a committee was not needed at all as there is no dispute about where Lord Ram was born.

Mahant Kamal Nayan Das, a senior member of the Nyas, said the temple would be built in Ayodhya for which either the court gives permission or Parliament brings a legislation for it.

“We were always against the Supreme Court-appointed three-member mediation panel formed to resolve the Ayodhya dispute. There is actually no dispute on where Lord Ram was born. The world knows that Lord Ram was born in Ayodhya and a temple should be built here,” he told .

The Nyas was founded as an independent trust by members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad on January 25, 1993 to take charge of the disputed site and oversee the construction of the Ram temple.

Mahant Ram Chandra Paramhans was the first head of the Nyas and its members argued that it was created so that the government of India would not control the site and end up involving itself in the construction of the temple.

“We want the court to give its verdict on the basis of the facts presented before it during hearing of the case,” Das said.

“All political parties are directly or indirectly favouring a temple here. No political party has opposed the temple because millions of Hindus have their sentiments attached to the issue,” he added.

A five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, had on March 8 set up the panel of mediators, headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice F.M. Khalifulah.

The top court had ordered that the mediation would start within a week at Faizabad and that the panel would submit its report within four weeks.

The panel submitted an interim report in a sealed cover on May 7 after which the Supreme Court gave it time till August 15 to work out “an amicable solution” to the issue, on the request of the committee.

On July 11, the Constitution bench asked the mediation panel to submit a status report by July 18.

Pakistan should be restrained from executing Jadhav, India had urged ICJ

0

The Hague, July 18 While Pakistan has been claiming victory in the ICJ not ruling in favour of Kulbhushan Jadhav”s release, it has apparently forgotten that one of the clauses India put forth while approaching the top UN court was that in case Jadhav was not to be released, then Pakistan should be restrained from executing the death sentence awarded by a military court.

India in its application to the ICJ against the death sentence of Jadhav, had urged that Pakistan be restrained from executing the death sentence or giving effect to the conviction of Jadhav in any manner and that he be released forthwith and Pakistan be directed to facilitate his safe passage to India.

“In the alternative, and if this Court were to find that Jadhav is not to be released, then restrain Pakistan from giving effect to the sentence awarded by the Military Court, and direct it to take steps to annul the decision of the military court, as may be available to it under the laws in force in Pakistan,” it said.

“…direct a trial under the ordinary law before civilian courts, after excluding his confession that was recorded without affording consular access, in strict conformity with the provisions of the ICCPR (International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights), with full consular access and with a right to India to arrange for his legal representation,” it added.

India also urged that the court declare that the death sentence on Jadhav, “arrived at by a Pakistani military court, in brazen defiance of the Vienna Convention rights” and “in defiance of elementary human rights of Jadhav” is “violative of international law and the provisions of the Vienna Convention”.

India also urged that “Declare that India is entitled to restitutio in integrum (or returning everything to the state as it was before)”.

India had urged the ICJ to adjudge and declare that Pakistan acted in egregious breach of Article 36 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, in (i) Failing to inform India, without delay, of the arrest and/or detention of Jadhav, (ii) Failing to inform Jadhav of his rights under Article 36 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, (iii) Declining access to Jadhav by consular officers of India, contrary to their right to visit Jadhav, while under custody, detention or in prison, and to converse and correspond with him, or to arrange for his legal representation.

Pakistan, countering India”s application, had requested the court to reject India”s application in its entirety.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Wednesday claimed that the International Court of Justice”s (ICJ) ruling on Kulbhushan Jadhav was a “victory for Pakistan” as the top UN court did not ask for him to be released.

“Commander Jadhav shall remain in Pakistan. He shall be treated in accordance with the laws of Pakistan. This is a victory for Pakistan,” Qureshi tweeted.

The Pakistan Foreign Office in a statement said the fact that the ICJ did not ask Pakistan to release or acquit Jadhav meant that the UN court had “not accepted India”s plea” for his release.

The Foreign Office also said that Pakistan was a responsible member of the international community.

“Having heard the judgment, Pakistan will now proceed as per law,” the statement said.

Kangana is more confident today: Rajkummar Rao

0

Rajkummar Rao’s forthcoming film “JudgeMentall Hai Kya” has been marred by controversy owing to the ongoing ugly spat between the film’s heroine Kangana Ranaut and a section of the media.

On Wednesday, during a visit to the Capital, National Award-winning actor Rajkummar seemed in the obvious mood to evade all talk of controversy and focus on bringing back media and public attention to the film.

“We have made a good film. The only thing I was expecting was to be a part of a good film. Focus on work and lead a normal life — that’s how I live my life. I don’t get into other things,” the actor told IANS, adding: “I don’t want too much attention. I am happy the way I am and I want people to know me for my work and nothing else.”

Rajkummar may be seeking peace, but the film has been making news for several wrong reasons right from the start.

It was originally titled “Mental Hai Kya”. The name was subsequently changed after many people including a section of psychiatrists voiced concerns over the use of the word “mental”.

The film also courted controversy because when the makers announced they would release it on the same date as “Super 30”, starring Kangana’s rumoured ex-boyfriend and current bête noire Hrithik Roshan.

Adding to the list of controversies was the much-talked-about heated argument between Kangana and a news agency journalist at an event in Mumbai earlier this month.

“JudgeMentall Hai Kya” reunites “Queen” co-stars Kangana and Rajkummar after a gap of around five years.

“Shooting with Kangana was like going back on the sets of ‘Queen’. She is very sincere when it comes to work. She is passionate about it. That’s how I also see my work, so we both constantly discuss scenes.

“A lot of people who have seen the film and and the song said we share great chemistry. For me, acting is about reacting to your co-actor. She is brilliant as an actor. So, it’s always fun to work with her,” Rajkummar gushed about his co-star, adding that she had grown as an actor.

“Kangana is more confident today than before. She knows exactly what she wants out of a character,” said the “Newton” actor.

The film’s director Prakash Kovelamudi is a known name in the Telugu film industry but he is making his directorial debut in Bollywood with “JudgeMentall Hai Kya”.

“Filmmaking is a director’s medium. Prakash is very sorted. He was clear about the visuals and the look he wants. Still, he gave me a lot of freedom to perform. He had faith in me,” said Rajkummar, adding there was always the room for discussion on the sets of the films.

“Discussions would happen. You discuss your character or a scene if you see it in a different light than what’s written. That happens. That’s a very usual thing to do,” he says.

If his director crossed over from regional cinema to Bollywood, Rajkummar is game for a reverse journey.

“If there is a great story, I would love to do (regional cinema). I love picking up languages. If there is a great story waiting out there, if somebody plans to make ‘Thithi’ or ‘Labour Of Love’ again, I would love to be a part of it,” he shared.

Rajkummar, however, dismissed rumours that he was all set to star in a Hindi remake of the Telugu film “Ninu Veedani Needanu Nene”.

“I am not (a film of that film). I have no idea about it as of now, ” he clarified.

He is open to doing remakes, but they shouldn’t be “shot by shot copy” of the original. “There is a difference in culture. If you can adapt it and put it out there, then maybe (it will work). But it has to be a really special story,” he signed off.

Elon Musk unveils brain-on-a-chip, seeks human trials in 2020

0

San Francisco: To help paralyzed people control devices and empower people with brain disorders enrich their lives, Elon Musk-led startup Neuralink has revealed tiny brain “threads” in a chip which is long lasting, usable at home and has the potential to replace cumbersome devices currently used as brain-machine interfaces.

The company is seeking the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval to start clinical trials on humans in 2020.

The technology has a module that sits outside the head and wirelessly receives information from “threads” embedded in the brain.

Controlled by an iPhone app, the chip called “N1 sensor” with just a USB port coming out can have as many as 3,072 electrodes per array distributed across 96 “threads” — each “thread” smaller that the tiniest human hair.

The chip which will be wireless in the future can read, transmit high-volume data and amplify signals from the brain. The aim is to drill four 8mm holes into patients’ skulls and insert the “threads” each of the size between 4 and 6 micrometre — about one-third the diameter of a human hair.
Currently, there is a robot to do the brain surgery which, according to a research paper released by Neuralink, has performed surgeries on animals and successfully placed the “threads”.

“This has the potential to solve several brain-related diseases. The idea is to understand and treat brain disorders, preserve and enhance your own brain and create a well-aligned future,” Musk told the audience at an event here late Tuesday.

A staunch critic of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Musk said that long-term goal is to find a way to “achieve a sort of symbiosis with AI but that is not a mandatory thing. This is something you can choose to have if you want”.

“With a high-bandwidth brain-machine interface, I think we can actually help scores of patients,” said the Tesla founder who also said he is looking to hire more talent in Neuralink.
According to Max Hodak, President of Neuralink, he wasn’t originally sure “this technology was a good idea” but Musk convinced him.

“We didn’t want any connectors or wires coming through the skin. It had to be something that would last for a longer period of time, not something that you’d have to take out after two-three years; it had to have practical bandwidth,” said Hodak.

Founded as a medical research company in 2016, Neuralink has hired several high-profile neuroscientists from various universities.

The company is focused on creating devices resembling tiny sewing machines that can be implanted in the human brain – to improve memory or more direct interfacing with computing devices.

Inzamam-ul-Haq To Step Down As Pakistan Chief Selector

0

Inzamam-ul-Haq, whose tenure as Pakistan’s chief selector will come to an end on July 31, has decided to step down from his role with immediate effect. The recently-concluded World Cup 2019, which saw Pakistan bow out of the tournament in the league stage, was Inzamam-ul-Haq’s last assignment as a chief selector. Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, the former Pakistan captain said he has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about the decision as he wants to give new people a chance.
“After more than three years as chief selector, I have decided not to seek a renewal of my contract,” the former skipper said.

“With the ICC World Test Championship due to get underway in September, the ICC T20 World Cup in 2020 and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, I believe it is the right time for the Pakistan Cricket Board to appoint a new chief selector who can bring in new ideas and fresh thinking.

“I spoke to PCB chairman Ehsan Mani and Managing Director Wasim Khan on Monday and conveyed my decision to them separately. I also thanked them for backing and supporting the selection committee since taking over the reins of Pakistan cricket,” Inzamam, the most capped Test player, said.

The 49-year-old also made it clear that the board has not made him any offers yet, adding that Pakistan’s performance in the World Cup 2019 was good, even though they failed to qualify for the semi-finals.

Inzamam-ul-Haq was appointed as Pakistan’s chief selector in April 2016. He oversaw a period which included Pakistan’s remarkable Champions Trophy triumph.

Kashmir’s Transport System And The Public Woes

0

By Kuchay Yousuf

On 10th of July 2019, a picture of a cab (sumo) going from Sathra to Galinag in Poonch Mandi went viral with overloading of about 20 people on the roof top with men hanging from its back. There was every possibility of any untoward to happen and the scene was looking very drastic and dreadful beyond one’s imagination. It shows how the lives of people are taken for a ride. The viral pictures compelled the police to take action as a result an FIR under number 44/2019 under section 336 RPC was lodged and the driver was arrested.

It is not the first instance that a vehicle with a carrying capacity of 10 passengers is seen carrying about 32 passengers on board and that too on hilly and rough terrains of Pir Panchal range i,e, Kishtwar, Doda, Pooch, Ramban etc. Recently about 44 passengers were killed and the same number injured when a bus fell in a deep gorge in Kishtwar. About 19 college girls died when their vehicle skidded off the road and fell into about 300 meters deep gorge in Kishtwar. Such accidents do happen, day-in and day-out taking lives of hundreds of people for none of their faults.

Now the question arises as to why the vehicles are allowed to ply with overloads on the rough and hilly roads? Is it any adventure that people voluntarily take part to cost their lives? Is it any game that drivers and vehicle owners take the risk to invest their properties and lives to get eliminated for no gains? Is it any conspiracy between the stake holders who so ever at the cost of lives of people for their illegal earnings? Is there no one to have a proper look on the system? Has the chapter of public safety been deleted from the government gazettes? All the people see, think, talk and forget! Now it looks as usual to a layman as a daily routine.

The traffic system in the state of J&K is worst hit and there seems no regulations in place for the traffic movement. The transporters ply their vehicles on their own will. Whenever and wherever they desire. Especially all Mondays and Saturdays are very crucial for the common man to get transport to reach his destination in time, safely. The people desirous to travel nearby places of short distances feel frustrated to get a chance to travel. The shifting of public transport from old towns and villages to bypass four-way road has added to the miseries of the people living there due to diversion. The roads are not so wide but however, the process of widening is on at several places but on snails’ pace and perhaps following the traditional methods of planning i,e, first making a blacktop road then digging again for laying of water pipes followed by erecting electric poles and telephone trunk lines as has been practised for a long time leaving the road again in apathetical conditions for decades together. However, the people also do not care to divert their drainage waters, rubbish and garbage to float on the open roads and leave no corner for the common road safety.
The road construction agencies do not care for construction of foot paths along the roads especially on the four lane national highway where the pedestrians face a trouble to move along the road safely. There remains every risk of life while walking or crossing of the roads. The more convenient traditional non electricity using cycling has become a wonder of the times as one cannot dare to travel on a cycle a short distance because of having no way for him. Thus this more convenient and beneficial mode of transport has been discouraged while it is getting preference in foreign developed countries where high graded people prefer to travel with.

The government run public transport system has become mere eyewash. There is enough potential for government transport to ply on the long and short distance routes on lowest input which can make ease for the common people to travel frequently at cheap tariffs and at ease. When the larger buses can ply on the roads of Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and other metro and non metro cities why can’t in J&K?

The most valuable government transport industry runs in loss in the State where the same has a vibrant potential to lead all the public sector industries. There are much avenues to implement bonus, encouragement and more benefits to the employees on the basis of performance to boost this industry. The State is rich in tourist destination spots and have reachable far flung areas where significant transport can run smoothly. But due to the traditional management the industry is not flourishing well. If the government may provide the sight site seeing tourist transport to the youth on contract basis or on easy loans and introduce waterways for transport to generate employment and facilitate the tourism it can enhance the accessibility and economy of the State.

Need of the hour is that busses should operate in the city and outskirts without getting stuck in the city. Bus stops be provided with facilities of public connivance, drinking water, shelter and seating arrangements. Human resource with dignity with separate sections for ladies and gents with at least two to three seats for physically challenged and senior citizens in public transport as is found in other states of India like Hyderabad, Assam and other places is also needed. The people follow separate queues while boarding on fixed bus stops.

Here in J&K we find overloading of passengers to the hilt and there is no implementation of woman reservation in public transport, although, the same is written on the walls of busses and matadors that seats from 1 to 6 are reserved for ladies but seems a mere joke and eyewash where nobody bothers to leave a seat for ladies and senior citizens. Banning overloaded is no way a remedy but providing sufficient and regular and comfortable transport can be a wise step.

Also the ruthless driving results in dreadful accidents. The condition and documentation of both the drivers and vehicle is to be maintained anyhow. The proper monitoring and training of drivers is the need of the time providing valuable information about the roads safety rules and road safety signals. The uniform of public transport drivers is to be maintained. The bicycle riders are most prune to accidents due to not using helmets and performing stunt shows on busy roads & no care for the overloading and speed which results in deaths often. The facilities of regular, comfortable, easy transport is the need today. The number and arrangement of seats in all vehicles be properly checked to provide a dignified travel to all citizens. The roads be widened enough with construction of pedestrian paths, best road signals and lighting system at dense junctions is a must. Traffic management and monitoring be digitized as per latest standards. Traffic rules be implemented strictly with keen eye on traffic jams to save inconvenience and time of people with check on accidents. More transport be utilised for frequent movement of the people with increasing the day hours from early morning to late evening to facilitate the economic encouragement for both the people and transpoters. Night transport is to be provided to at least connect the district and tehsil headquarters. The overloading of school buses is also to be kept under scanner. The radio taxi transport i,e, auto and taxis moving on battery charger has a vibrant potential to provide best, frequently available, environment friendly and short distance transport in towns and cities with a charm and best opportunity of employment.

The people are the asset of the state have an important part to play ie, to abide by the rules and regulations of the traffic movement. The public awareness and cooperation to be encouraged. By owning the government transport and properties can solve the difficult problem. The private transporters will have to leave the ignorance and follow rules waiting for their turn at every point to avoid traffic jamming. Essential services like ambulance, fire service, school buses are to be provided nonstop way to ply without any hassles. Hope the government pays a heed to a few suggestions so as to make the travel of common people smooth and civilized.
