Lab technician beaten in SDH Kupwara, BMO constitutes committee to investigate matter

Srinagar, Jul 17 : A lab technician from Sub District Hospital Kupwara was allegedly beaten by Sup lab technician and his son in SDH Kupwara for unknown reasons.

Sources told that a lab technician Nazir Ahmad Pirzada was beaten infront of other employees of the hospital for some unknown reasons allegedly by Sup lab technician Mohd Asadullah Sofi and his son.

However, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Kupwara has constituted a five member committee to investigate the matter.

The committee comprise Dr. Muhammad Yousuf consultant Gynecologist, Dr. Parvez Ahmad consultant ENT, Ifaq Ahmad Sr. Assistant, Ashiq Hussain pharmacist and Gh Nabi Bhat field worker.

According to the order under number BMOK/902-03 dated 17-07-19, the committee has been asked to submit detailed report within 24 hours in the office of BMO for further action.

Meanwhile, the another order under number Est/BMOK/900-01 dated 17-07-19 reads that Mohd Asadullah Sofi Sup Lab technician SDH Kupwara was relieved to chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kupwara for further action. (KNS) 

JK cements employees without salaries for six months

Srinagar, Jul 17 : The employees of JK Cements Ltd (JKCL) and their families are facing starvation as they have not been paid their salaries by the Management of this Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) for the last six months.

The corporation was once a profitable Public Sector undertaking in the State.

The insiders of the corporation appealed governor to intervene into the matter as early as possible so that hundreds of families are not adversely affected.

One of the employees of corporation told this that their families are facing starvation as they have not been paid their salaries by the Management of this Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) for the last six months.

“The current management has failed to release the salaries of the employees. Around 600 hundred poor employees including the laboures are without salaries from last six months, one of the insiders wished anonymity told.

They insiders said that they have approached the Managing Director many times, but he always responded by saying that the corporation has no funds for salaries. “We are without salaries from last six months. Managing Director hardly listens to our pleas” they added.

Another insider wished anonymity told KNS that although the company faced so many ups and downs from past many years but the present situation is very worrying. “The employees are very worried and feel their future unsure .Wrong policies wrong decisions, are the reasons for its failure,” he alleged and added that the present Managing Director is not addressing the real problem of the plant.

The Insiders of the corporation appealed governor to intervene into the matter as early as possible so that thousands of families are not adversely affected.

JKCL has a monopoly on sale and supply of cement to government funded projects and departments. As per government orders, the state agencies have to give first preference to JKCL for purchase of cement.

“The employees find it difficult even to feed their families, pay the school fees of their kids and meet day to day medical expenses,” they added.

The further alleged that no interest is being shown by the management to run JKCL plant at Khrew which is not operating for want of raw material.

Despite repeated attempts, the Managing Director Ishtiyaq Drabu was not available for comments.

It is to mention here that the JK Cements has two plants with individual capacity of around 600 tonnes per day. The successive elected governments had blamed each other for downfall in its production. (KNS)

Leaders discuss future strategy, measures needed to widen its outreach

Srinagar, Jul 17 : A high level meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) leadership from south Kashmir was held at the party head office here in which various crucial issues confronting the state at present were discussed in detail.

Chaired by Party Vice President Abdul Rahman Veeri, the meeting deliberated over various measures that the party has taken in the recent past to widen its reach and make masses aware about its agenda and mission.

Veeri in his address stressed upon the leadership to hold constant contact with the general public and highlight the issues they face on day to day basis and seek their resolution on priority from the concerned quarters.

Veeri expressed full confidence that the PDP will bounce back in a revitalised form on the state’s political scene and that the party will continue to push for peace with dignity which is the focal point of its agenda. He said that the workers are committed to the agenda of the party and the vision provided by its founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who founded the party in the very trying circumstances.

PDP General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura while addressing the meeting stated that the party will continue to pursue it till durable peace is restored and that will never barter interests of the state against petty political gains.

Veteran PDP leader, Mohammad Sartaj Madni in his address stated that the need of the hour is that the party leadership, functionaries, activists and supporters must work in close coordination and make sustainable efforts in party’s overall growth and impressive performance in the coming time.

The participants of the meeting expressed full confidence in the leadership of the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, resolving in unison to support her each and every endeavour aimed at getting the people out of the cycle of uncertainty and lead the state towards a prosperous future.

PHQ issues revised tentative seniority list of Inspectors

District Police Office Srinagar gets new address

SRINAGAR, JULY 17: Director General of Police, Shri Dilbag Singh today inaugurated the functioning of District Police Office Srinagar from Sherghari complex. The new premises will house the office of SSP Srinagar, Addl. SP and Dy.SP Headquarter Srinagar.

On his arrival to the new complex the DGP was presented guard of honour by the contingent of District Armed Reserve (DAR) Srinagar. He inspected different sections of the office and interacted with the officials working there.

 The multi-storey building with 1010.2 sq. meter plinth area has been constructed with modern facilities under Police Moderation Scheme to accommodate different police offices. Police Station Sherghari and Cyber Police Station are also functioning from the new complex.

The DGP J&K chaired a review meeting with senior Police officers and jurisdictional gazetted officers. At the very outset of the meeting, DGP was briefed about the present security scenario of the district by the jurisdictional officers. The DGP was apprised about the present law & order situation and crime scenario in the district. Drug abuse, social crime and terrorism-related incidents were also discussed in the meeting.

DGP while addressing the meeting, complimented the efforts of District Police Srinagar for providing better police services to the people. He said that Srinagar City being the central place of the valley and also the summer capital is of utmost importance and district Srinagar Police shares aptly the responsibility of various tasks in Policing as also taking care of welfare of the police personnel.  

Speaking about drug abuse, the DGP said that it has become a big challenge for J&K Police and we have to tighten the noose against the persons indulging in the trade. He said that the increasing trend of drugs have to be arrested as it is affecting the lives of people and family environment. The DGP, J&K hoped that the new premises will increase the efficiency of the Srinagar police further.

The DGP also released a handbook on Cyber Crime Awareness. The handbook has been prepared by Cyber Crime Police Cell Srinagar to bring awareness among the general masses about the cyber crimes and precautions to be adopted to protect themselves from the adverse impact of cyber technology.

Earlier, SSP Srinagar Dr. Haseeb Mughal thanked the DGP on behalf of the official of District Police Srinagar for providing better working facilities. Briefing about the security situation in the district he said that every step is being taken to ensure a peaceful atmosphere. He said that Srinagar Police is doing multitasked work be it safe passage of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, the security of yatries, traffic management or handling of social crime. He said that big challenge Srinagar Police is facing to curb the growing trend of drug abuse in the district. He assured the DGP on behalf of District Police that all measures will be taken to eradicate the drug menace from the district by taking strict action against the persons indulging in this malpractice.

The meeting and inaugural function was attended by ADsGP Dr. B. Srinivas, Shri A.K Choudhary, SJM Gillani, Shri A.G Mir, IsGP Shri S.S Khandare, Shri J.P Singh, Shri Vijay Kumar, Shri Alok Kumar, Shri Surinder Gupta, Shri S. District Police Headquarters was earlier functioning from ZPHQ complex Balgarden Srinagar. The District Police Headquarters (office of the Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar) will now function from this Sherghari complex. Sopore Encounter: LeT militant killed, operation over

Baramulla, July 17 : A LeT militant was killed after a Gunfight broke out between militants and government forces in Gund Brath area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday morning.

SSP Sopore Javeed Iqbal told that one militant body along with one weapon has been recovered from the encounter site.

The SSP further said that searches at encounter site is still underway.

As per the sources the slain militant has been identified as Adnan Channa resident of Old town Baramulla.

According to the sources the slain militant had joined LeT outfit in April 2019.

Meanwhile partial shutdown is being observed in old town area of Baramulla after reports of slain militant who is believed to be resident of old town Baramulla spread in the area.

Earlier in wake of gunfight authorities had suspended Mobile internet services in Sopore parts, also to prevent any law and order problem Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore Ashiq Hussain Lily in a statement ordered closure of Degree College as a precautionary measure. (GNS)

Khalil Bandh resigns from PDP

Srinagar, Jul 17 : In a huge setback to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senior leader and district president Pulwama, former MLA Mohammad Khalil Bandh has resigned from the basic membership of the party.

In a letter, Khalil Bandh outlined how the party compromised on its basic principles after demise of late Mufti Mohammad Syed and how veteran faces were sidelined in decision making process and the manner in which series of self destructive decisions were taken at behest of the vested interests.

He outlined how voices of experienced and wisdom were neglected and humiliated and the manner in which he found himself suffocated during the tenure of Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

It is worth mentioning here that 
Khalil Bandh is founder member of PDP and is veteran political figure from turmoil hit South Kashmir, having looked after key portfolios.
Khalil Bandh expressed gratitude to the great support given to him by his beloved workers and vowed to never let down them.

Khalil Bandh reaffirmed that for the larger Interests of his workers and emotions of people he is left with no option but to say goodbye to the party.

Forces launch search operation in Kupwara village

Kupwara, July 17 : Forces on Wednesday launched a cordon and search operation in North Kashmir’s Kupwara village.

Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said a joint team of forces including Army’s 15 RR, SOG launched a cordon-and-search operation at Tarathpora Mohalla of Boneybath Aliabad and conducted house to house search operation in the area.

A police officer also confirmed this cordon and search operation to this newspaper and said following suspecious movement searches were launched in the area.

Searches in the area was on when last reports came.

Sopore, July 17 : Government forces on Wednesday morning launched a cordon and search operation in Sopore village of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said that additional reinforcements of army and Special Operation Group of police have been rushed to Gund Brath village in Sopore area as chances of encounter between forces and militants believed to be holed up are rife.

Two militants are  believed to be trapped in the area, reports said.

SSP Sopore Javeed Iqbal told Kashmir Despatch that search operation in the area is going on.

He said that as of now no contact with militants has been established.

Earlier, army’s 22 RR and SOG have launched a cordon-and-search operation at Mir Mohalla area of Gund Brath village following specific information about the presence of militants inside a residential house.

Meanwhile to prevent any law and order problem Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore Ashiq Hussain Lily in a statement ordered closure of Degree College Sopore today as a precautionary measure.
