Tanushree to file protest petition against Nana Patekar

Tanushree has opposed the B-Summary report filed by the Oshiwara police station. She was represented by advocate Nitin Satpute at Railway Mobile Court in Andheri here.

“The court has granted her time to file a protest petition against the B-Summary report. Tanushree’s legal team was present, but not a single officer from the Oshiwara police station was in the court room at the time of hearing. The case has been adjourned to September 7,” Satpute told IANS on Sunday.

In June, Mumbai Police spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner of Police Manjunath Shinge had told IANS: “Yes, we have filed a B-Summary Report before the court.”

The police move came after they reportedly did not find enough evidence in the matter, virtually ending the case as they cannot continue further investigations.

Satpute had said that they would challenge the police move in the matter.

The actress had lodged the complaint against Nana in September 2018 accusing him of allegedly sexually harassing her over a decade ago, in 2008 during a shoot, but he had stoutly denied the charges levelled by her.

MS Dhoni capable of rising from ashes stronger: Arun Pandey

0

Former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who turned 38 on Sunday, has faced a lot of criticism in the recent past for his slow batting and it is believed that the stumper-batsman may hang his boots from international cricket anytime after the completion of the ongoing World Cup.

With fans celebrating the cricketer’s birthday on social media, his long-time friend and one of his managers — Arun Pandey — wished luck to the cricketer and reckoned that despite his growing age, Dhoni still had the ability to silence his critics.

Pandey, Chairman of Rhiti Sports, said: “I begin with the lyrics from the song ‘Besabriyaan’, picturised on my dear friend and the legendary cricketer M.S. Dhoni, because it so beautifully encapsulates the journey he has had… A path filled with struggle, applause and criticism.
When one knows a person closely and has been a part of his journey, birthdays take on a unique meaning. A person who is extremely special to me, a person who has created a place for himself in the hearts of millions of Indians through his sheer grit and determination, a close friend and trusted associate, the cricketing legend Dhoni is celebrating his birthday today.”

The Ranchi lad has drawn a lot of criticism for his slow batting in the World Cup as people believe Dhoni has lost his charm and should call it a day.

However, backing the underfire cricketer, Pandey said: “Knowing how far he has come from his initial days and how hard the struggle has been to first gain visibility as a player worth his salt, then to support himself financially while he was climbing the cricketing ladder and then the struggle to steer the team to the stupendous victory in the 2011 World Cup and finally the effort required to maintain his form in the face of the new players, I can safely say that Dhoni’s has been a chequered path.

“And that is possibly why he has not lost hope or given up even in the face of scathing criticism. Dhoni’s career has brought him ardent adulation as also vicious condemnation, and this from people who have probably never had to face the pressure of a ball being hurled at them in an international match.”

Pandey also feels that his friend is still capable of improving and that his importance in Indian cricket cannot be overlooked.

“While people talk about how he may be past his prime or looking to retire, what we know for sure is that Dhoni is a man who we can never write off. He has shown us time and again that he is capable of rising from the ashes stronger and better, like the phoenix of Indian cricket. As he celebrates his birthday doing what is closest to his heart, I wish him a wonderful year ahead,” Pandey concluded.

Dhoni, who made his ODI debut in 2004 against Bangladesh, has been a remarkable servant of Indian cricket. Counted among India’s most successful captains, the 38-year-old has been a vital cog in the wheels of Indian cricket for the past 15 years.

PM wants to avoid pricey hotels during his stay in Washington

0

WASHINGTON: Officials in Islamabad are believed to have informed the Pakistan embassy that Prime Minister Imran Khan desires to stay at the ambassador’s official residence instead of an expensive hotel during his three-day visit to Washington, starting on July 21.
While staying at the ambassador’s residence can considerably reduce the cost of the visit, a probe by Dawn revealed that neither the United States secret service nor the city administration appears “very receptive” to the idea.

The US secret service takes over the security of a visiting dignitary as soon as he or she lands in the US while the city administration has to ensure that the visit does not disrupt Washington’s traffic. The US capital receives hundreds of presidents and prime ministers every year and the US federal government works jointly with the city administration to ensure that those visits do not disturb the city’s normal life.
US secret service and the city’s administration don’t appear to be too receptive to the idea

The ambassador’s residence is in the heart of Washington’s diplomatic enclave, just off one of the city’s main arteries, the Mass (Massachusetts Avenue). There are at least a dozen embassies in and around that area, including those of India, Turkey and Japan while another dozen embassies such as those of Brazil, Britain and South Africa are not far away.

A visiting government head also holds a number of meetings with US officials, lawmakers and media and think-tank representatives during his stay in Washington. Since the residence is not large enough for all these meetings, the prime minister will have to meet his guests at the Pakistan embassy, commuting through Washington’s busy traffic during rush hours. To do so, his entourage will have to drive by most of these embassies as well as the US vice president’s official residence.

Some immediate family members of President Trump also live between the two locations.

Any closure of the street on which the ambassador’s residence is situated will prevent other residents, including several ambassadors, from travelling to and from their workplaces during the three-day stay of Mr Khan.

Besides, nobody will suggest closing the Mass as it will block traffic all the way to downtown, which houses hundreds of office buildings including the White House. It’s these logistic and security issues that force visiting heads of states and governments to stay at one of half a dozen hotels that have special arrangement for such VVIPs.

The most popular among them is Willard Inter-continental, which is hardly a few hundred yards from the White House. Other hotels also used for this purpose are Four Seasons, Georgetown and Ritz Carlton, Washington DC. Those wanting to cut down expenses, also stay at Wardman Park Marriott, which is close to the Pakistan Embassy. Some embassies prefer this hotel because it’s huge and can be used for hosting community events as well.

Each of these hotels has a VVIP section with separate elevators and exit and entry points. This makes it easy for the US secret service to protect the guest. But if the prime minister still wants to avoid a hotel, he can stay with one of the rich Pakistani-Americans in the DC suburbs.

Most of these houses have tall boundary walls and can be easily secured. Staying in a suburb, however, means travelling to Washington every morning and holding all the meetings at the Pakistan Embassy.

This, however, will be another headache for the US secret service. The Pakistani embassy borders the Israeli embassy and thus it’s another top security zone.

NEW DELHI:

Twenty-nine people were killed when the bus in which they were travelling in skidded off the six-lane Yamuna Expressway near Delhi and fell 50 feet into a large drain. Seventeen people were injured.

The 165-km-long expressway connects Noida with Agra in Uttar Pradesh. The bus, carrying 46 people, was going from Lucknow to Delhi when the accident happened this morning, the police said.

“One sleeper coach passenger bus travelling from Lucknow to Delhi met with an accident on Yamuna Expressway,” the Uttar Pradesh Police tweeted.

According to reports, the driver fell asleep just before he lost control of the heavy vehicle on the expressway near Agra.

In a video, a group of rescuers – their feet half buried in wet mud as they walked about the debris – are seen pulling out bodies from the twisted metal parts of the white bus, whose roof had been ripped off in the middle by the force of the impact after it smashed the safety railing and fell on the black waters of the large drain.

The injured people have been taken to hospital, said the district magistrate. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid his condolences and asked the authorities to give all help to the injured and the families of those killed in the accident, the Chief Minister’s Office in Lucknow said.

Road safety experts have long warned the dangers of speeding on the wide expressway, especially in early morning hours and night

Accidents have also been rising on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway. Last week, the Uttar Pradesh government said drivers will have to pay a fine for speeding if they covered the 302 km-stretch from the Lucknow toll plaza to Agra in less than three hours.

Separatists have called for a protest shutdown on Monday to commemorate the death of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani.

Wani was killed in Kokernag area of Anantnag district on July 8, 2016 in a gunfight with the security forces.

Situated at 3,888 metres above the sea-level in Kashmir”s Himalayas, the Amarnath cave shrine houses an ice stalagmite structure that symbolises mythical p owers of Lord Shiva, according to the devotees.

The ice stalagmite structure waxes and wanes with the phases of the moon.

Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Sunday said the annual Hindu pilgrimage has been possible with the support and assistance of the local Muslims.

Malik also asked people to bear with the curbs imposed on civilian traffic on the national highway for two hours daily as it concerns the safety and the security of the pilgrims.

“You know what happened on the national highway on February 14 this year,” Malik said while he referred to the terror strike on the CRPF convoy in Pulwama district in which 40 troopers were killed.

Meanwhile, All India Radio (AIR) is starting an FM radio station in the Baltal base camp to flash weather forecasts, traffic information and devotion al content for the information of the pilgrims.

Won’t allow any body rob state’s identity, integrity and plural ethos: NC

0

Kupwara, July 7 : Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Sunday said the party mirrors the aspirations of the people of the state, saying protecting the special position of the state crowns the agenda of the party programme.

Party general secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar while addressing a mammoth workers convention at TRC Kupwara said NC is the real representative of the genuine aspirations of the people of the state.

“Our party has historically protected the interests of the state. It was Sher e Kashmir who secured us our own state flag, our own constitution, our identity. However after his unconstitutional arrest what he had achieved was infringed upon by New Delhi through its local servile and henpecked henchmen.  The party has the legacy of service and sacrifice. The extensive incarceration of Sher e Kashmir for 18 years bears testimony to the fact as to how passionately our party feels for the identity of our state,” he said adding, “ The situation is no different day; the New Delhi is again employing the old devious methods to use its local henpecked henchmen to divide the powerful voice of Kashmir. Nonetheless Sher e Kashmir had already prophesized that New Delhi will prop up leaders in the every alley of Kashmir.  New Delhi’s sequential blunders in Kashmir leave little to the imagination as what it is up to. It is needless to say how quickly one man parties are propping up in every nook and corner of the state.”

Sagar while underscoring the need of restoring Pre 1953 status to the state said, “No sooner did Dr Farooq Abdullah led government presented the state autonomy committee report in the legislative assembly, New Delhi’s blood run cold. Needless to say they were bundle of nerves, when the autonomy resolution was passed by both the houses of state legislative assembly with majority.  It was Mufti Syed who in his interview to Indian Express cautioned New Delhi from keeping all the apples in the basket of National conference. In the due course of time PDP came into being. Sensing that National Conference might not budge on its take on restoration of Pre 1953 status, New Delhi employed propped up simulated political outfits to counter the National Conference.  The Trojan horses that were implanted and supported here in the state were told to use catchy slogans: Goli Say Nahi Boli Say,” adding that the situation was no different today. “Today we see such agents hide their real disposition behind the fig leaf of “change” and “addressing the Aspirations”. Let us take a pledge that we won’t let such modern Bakshi’s and Sadiq’s rob the state of its identity, integrity and plural ethos.”

“The sole agenda of the forces as are inimical to our identity is to divide the powerful voice of Kashmiri.  In particular it is the Muslim identity that has traditionally been a scorn in their eyes.  Regrettably some local leaders who are on the wrong track are adding colors to the designs of such forces as are hell-bent to obliterate our identity. Nevertheless the way people rejected them in the Parliament elections speaks volumes about their political acumen. I take this opportunity to thank you all once more for strengthening the hands of NC.  However there is no scope for complacency, we have to carry the momentum till assembly elections,” he said.

Among others senior leader Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan, Mir Saifullah, Qaisar Jamsheed Lone, Syed Rafiq Shah, Shameema Firdous, Er.Sabiya Qadri, Salam Ud Din Bajad also addressed the workers and impressed upon them to increase their public engagement.

Says Some Transgressions Take Place Along LAC But Are Cordially Resolved With China

Rehan Showkat

Srinagar, July 7 : Army on Sunday said that it was carrying out a large number of “changes and modifications” to keep at bay the attempts by militants to carry out to use improvised explosive devices (IEDs) against the forces.

“IEDs is only a method by which the (militants) carry out destruction of the security forces or of the government agencies, otherwise they have to come face to face in combat with the security forces. So when they want to carry out stand-off attacks, they like to put an IED and escape from there, so this is one of the methods’,” General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) northern command Ranbir Singh told reporters on the sidelines of a function in connection with Kargil war anniversary.

He continued: “But as far as our strategy is concerned whichever method the (militants) use, our operations are aimed at neutralising all types of (militants). So our operations are continuing relentlessly based on the information we keep on receiving.”

At the same time, he said army was carrying out a large number of other “changes and modifications” which include bringing in certain new counter IED equipments and training troops. “We also have bomb disposal squads, we have dogs trained to be able to detect IEDs and large number of other measures.”

He said all “gaps along the LoC have been plugged and the Indian army is fully trained and equipped to take on any challenge, any contingency that may arise.”

“I also want to take this opportunity to articulate very clearly that should whenever there is a misadventure by the adversary to cause any action which is wrong as perceived by us along the LoC, they will always be given a befitting response, a lesson which they shall always remember for the times to come,” he said, according to GNS.

Asked regarding delays in Zojila Pass and construction of tunnel and when its completion was expected, the army officer said: “The inauguration of the tunnel was carried out by the Prime Minister last year. The work has commenced and there are some challenges out there. And wherever there are challenges we will be able to find solutions to that, but it is satisfying that even ZoJiLa sometimes is closed, we have an alternate access coming from Lohtang, access which reaches Ladakh and from Leh we can carry out the movement to this side,” he said.

He continued: “But the aim is that we should be able to have Zojila pass road functional as early as possible.”

Asked about reasons for not clearing much of the territories allegedly encroached upon by China, he said: “As far as the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China is concerned, we are maintaining peace and tranquility. There are some transgressions which take place at times but we have very well established mechanisms for confidence building. We are able to resolve those differences by sitting with the Chinese and we are able to discuss with Chinese army.” Overall, he said, the situation continues to be peace and tranquil along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Police Cracks Uri Murder Case

0

Police today in a press conference at Baramulla said that On 29-06-2019 Police Station Uri received information that one lady namely “Shahida Begum w/o Ghulam Mustafa Khatana r/o Julla Kalgi Uri” was found hanging in her room apparently after committing suicide. (Accordingly inquest proceedings u/s 174 CrPC was initiated in Police Station Uri).

During the course of proceedings, while investigating the facts and circumstances leading her to taking such an extreme step a fair amount of suspicion came up in the minds of investigators. Accordingly a (SIT) comprising of SHO P/S Uri and 02 ASI’s under the overall supervision of SDPO Uri was constituted. Pertinently the husband of the deceased is presently working outside J&K from past 6/7 months and prior to that was working in Srinagar.

Subsequently, various suspects were called for questioning in which one suspect namely Qadeer Ahmad Khatana s/o Ab Majeed r/o Julla Kalgi Uri who happens to be brother in law and cousin of deceased woman was also questioned. During sustained interrogation the said person revealed that the deceased woman did not actually commit suicide but was murdered by him. The suspect also revealed that he had an illicit relationship with her (deceased) from past one year.

It is pertinent to mention here that when deceased returned from her maternal home after staying there for about more than one month, the accused had already tied up with her during the day time to keep the door of her room unlocked for him for night hours.

On the fateful night accused after having dinner entered in his room as usual along with his wife and kids. Meanwhile after some time, noticing that his wife and kids slept, accused entered the room of Shahida Begum at midnight where only few minutes later there were heated arguments between the two with regard to their illicit relationship and after their verbal altercation deceased Shahida warned him that she will disclose about their illicit relationship to the other members of the family.

Feeling insecure by Shahida’s warning and to avenge the father of the deceased whom accused accuses of having illicit relationship with his wife (accused’s wife), the accused turned her scarf around her neck and gradually pulled it while grabbing her underneath and killed her on spot. He then hanged the dead body in her room in order dodge her killing as suicide. Accordingly a case under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Uri and further investigation is going on.
