Two groups fight for mandate for their favourite leaders

BARAMULLA, Jun 26: All is not well within Baramulla unit of National Conference. This became evident on Wednesday when two groups of National Conference workers exchanged heated arguments against each other demanding mandates for their favourite leaders, at Dak Bunglow Baramulla.

Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said that two groups of National Conference workers demanded mandate to their favorite candidates for upcoming elections in the state, the dates for which are yet to be announced by the Election Commission of India.

Eyewitness told Kashmir Despatch that supporters of Tariq Kakroo raised slogans and demanded mandate for him for upcoming elections for Baramulla seat, while other groups of people were seen in favour of two candidates including Advocate Shahid Ali Shah and Senior leader National Conference Ghulam Hassan Rahi.

Group of supporters while talking to Kashmir Despatch on the sidelines of a function held by National Conference at Dak Banglow Baramulla said that Tariq Kakroo is the best option for Baramulla assembly constituency who according to them feels the pain of common masses and can serve people of Baramulla in a better way. They said that kakroo is the only candidate who can give fight to other parties and can win with good margin. 

Pertinently, Ali Mohammad Sagar Vice President of National Conference, Senior leaders of National Conference Nasir Aslam Wani, former minister and senior leader of National Conference Javed Ahmed Dar, Dr Sajad Shafi, Women’s wing district president Adv Neelofar and other parts leaders were present on the programme at Dak Banglow Baramulla.

Family says she was kept waiting leading to her death which came fore after police opened OT

Srinagar, June 26: A 25-year-old pregnant woman died under mysterious circumstance even as her family alleged gross medical negligence by the doctors at MCH hospital Sheerbagh Anantnag in south Kashmir.

According to her family, the woman, Shobi Jan, complying with the advice by the doctors, walked into the hospital on the morning of June 25 (Tuesday). She was asked to take tea and snacks before her delivery which according to the family was fixed at 2 p.m. by the doctors. They said that no doctor turned up at the scheduled time and she was kept waiting.

A female attendant accompanying Shobi observed that there was no movement of fetus inside the womb and she rushed to inform the doctors, the family said.

“However, there was no response from the doctors and Shobi was kept waiting and waiting till 11 p.m in the night when she was taken to labour room,” they said.

In the labour room, they said, Shobi was left unattended and no one from the family was allowed to enter.

“Finally she was taken to operating theater at around 3 a.m. and it was not opened for hours,” they said.

It was at around 6: 30 a.m. that the operating theater was opened and “that too when the police team reached the hospital,” the family said. “This is a murder and strict punishment shall be taken against the concerned doctors,” the family said and staged massive protest against the doctors.

Medical Superintendent of the hospital M Y Zagoo told GNS that an inquiry has been ordered by a team of doctors comprising Dr Akeela and Dr Masarat, (gynecologists) besides Dr Anzil (Anesthesia). “The team has been asked to submit the report at an earliest,” he said, adding, “Action will be taken based on the inquiry report.”

Meanwhile, police has taken cognizance of the matter and started investigations, a police officer told GNS.

He said that action as warranted against those found to be negligent would be taken. (GNS)

Srinagar, June 26: A militant body has been recovered from the encounter site after a gunfight raged between militants and government forces in Branpatri forests area of Kahlil Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday morning.

A senior police officer told that one militant body has been recovered so far from the encounter amid ongoing search operation.

The officer further said that there is possibility of recovering more militant bodies from the encounter site, as off now no firing firing is going on, the officer said.

Encounter rages in Tral forest

Srinagar, June 26: Gunfight rages between militants and government forces in Branpatri forests area of Kahlil Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday morning.

Reports reaching said that a joint team of Army’s 42RR , 180BN of CRPF and SOG launched a cordon and search operation in the area.

A senior police officer told that contact was established with the hiding militants after forces encircled the area.

Till this report was being filed intermittent firing was going on.(GNS)

Three Lecturers suspended for not attending ‘Back to Village’ programme

ADDC appointed as enquiry officer, asked to submit detailed report

Poonch, June 25 :Administration on Tuesday suspended three officers of education department for remaining absent in the recently launched “Back to Village” programme in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

‘Back to Village’ is a unique initiative of the state government under which officers are visiting panchayats across the state. It began on 20 June and would last till 27 June.

“The three officers deployed in Back to village for 3rd phase were found absent from their duties today on24.06.2019 and as such are here by placed under suspension with immediate effect,” reads an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner Poonch Rahul Yadav.

Those who were suspended include Zulfkar Ali (I/C Lecturer), Mohd Ishaq (Lecturer Math) and Rajinder Kumar Sharma (I/C Lecturer).

Furthermore, ADDC Poonch is hereby appointed as an enquiry officer who will enquire the matter and submit a detail factual report at the earliest, the order reads, a copy of which lies with GNS.

Meanwhile, in another separate order the Deputy Commissioner Poonch has sought the explanation from two officers Nazakat Hussain (Lecturer Urdu working) against the post of Hindi and Shokit Ali (Head Master).

The two officers deployed in Back to village for 3rd phase are found late in attending their duties today on 24-06-2019, the order reads.

“They are directed to explain their position within 03 days positively failing which it shall be presumed that they have nothing to say in their defence and disciplinary action shall initiated against them,” the order added. (GNS)

Traffic advisory issued for motorists in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, JUNE 25: Traffic Police Srinagar city Tuesday issued a traffic advisory for motorists in view of the visit of VVIP to SKICC on 26th and 27th of June 2019.

According to the advisory, no Motorist shall be allowed to ply towards Nishat, Shalimar, Harwan and adjacent areas via. Badyari Chowk and Gupkar. Similarly no traffic shall be allowed to ply from Ram Munshibagh towards Grand Place and shall be diverted towards Dalgate-Khayam for their respective destinations on 26th and 27th June 2019.

“Likewise, motorist intending to travel from Harwan-Shalimar-Nishat, Ganderbal and other adjacent areas towards Lalchowk are requested to travel via Hazratbal-Lalbazar route instead of Foreshore-Boulevard road axis to reach respective destinations. Motorist intending to travel from Dalgate, Lal Chowk and adjacent areas towards Harwan-Shalimar-Nishat shall adopt Nowpora-Khayam-Rainawari via Dargah-Zakoora to reach their respective destinations,” the advisory read.

According to Traffic police, vehicles of the tourists who are residing in Dal and Nishat area and emergency service vehicles are exempted from the said restriction, however they are advised to restrict their movement to bare minimum requirement on boulevard-foreshore road axis.

According to the advisory, timing for the traffic restriction as ordered by District Magistrate Srinagar will be from 08:00 A.M to 10:30 P.M on 26 June 2019 and 07:00 A.M to 04:00 P.M on 27 June 2019.

Crackdown launched on illegal selling of tobacco products in Srinagar

Some 50 stores booked for violating COTPA provisions; violations to be dealt with in the context of public safety: DC Srinagar

Srinagar, June 25 : The Srinagar administration Tuesday launched a city-wide crackdown on illegal sale of cigarettes among other tobacco products holding simultaneous inspections of markets in various areas.

The inspections were held in the wake of growing concerns about increasing prevalence of substance abuse in Srinagar and to verify adherence to the Cigarettes & Other Tobacco Products Act or COTPA 2003 which prohibits advertisement of and provides for regulation of trade and commerce in production and distribution of cigarettes and other tobacco products.

Large number of stores and vendors situated at different places were found selling cigarettes without the mandatory pictorial warnings on packets thereof. Huge cache of such cigarettes was also seized from various markets during the inspections.

Some 50 stores and vendors including those found selling cigarettes among other tobacco products close to schools among other educational institutions in violations of COTPA and violating other provisions thereof were booked with several of them sealed during the inspections.

It is notable that the data suggests that the annual amount spent on tobacco consumption in Srinagar is a staggering Rs 131 crore which is the highest in the State. This among other forms of substance abuse involving both genders is growing into a serious cause of concern in the district.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary who has issued strict instructions to concerned officers to crackdown on violators and offenders said violations of COTPA account for serious offences and will be dealt with in the context of public safety.

Dr Shahid assured of sustained efforts to check substance abuse in Srinagar but also urged the general public and parents in particular to do their bit emphasizing their important role therein and to assist the administration in its efforts to curb prevalence thereof.

Last month a district level coordination committee comprising 15 members from different departments and organisations was constituted in the district for the implementation of COTPA.

Different members of the committee have been assigned different roles and responsibilities for ensuring effective and functional application of tobacco control in the district. (GNS)

KU inks MoU with University of Sydney, Australia

Srinagar, June 25 : Centre of Central Asian Studies (CCAS), University of Kashmir and School of Philosophical and Historical Enquiry (SOPHE), University of Sydney, Australia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to initiate a new joint collaborative research project (Prehistoric Mining and Metallurgy in Kashmir) and enhance higher education learning initiatives between the two Universities.

The MoU was signed by the Vice Chancellor KU Prof. Talat Ahmad in his secretariat and Prof. Alison V.G. Betts (Chair of the Department of Archaeology), representing University of Sydney, Australia. Prof Tareak A Rather Director CCAS KU and Dr. Mumtaz A. Yatoo Assistant Professor and Principal Research Investigator CCAS KU were also present on the occasion.

The MoU signed between the University of Kashmir and the University of Sydney envisages promotion of scientific knowledge and academics and active joint research collaborations to understand important facets of prehistory of Kashmir.

Under this MoU both the Institutes will participate in collaborative research, training, teaching and other agreed activities that will enhance the relationship between the Institutions.  (GNS)

JKLF concerned over deteriorating health of jailed Yasin Malik

Srinagar, June 25 : Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating health condition of its incarcerated chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik in Tihar Jail, Delhi.

JKLF chief spokesperson Muhammad Rafiq Dar in a statement issued, said Malik is suffering from acute infection in one of his eyes since last two weeks. He condemned the attitude of jail authorities including its medical team and said due to their negligence the health condition of Malik is deteriorating day by day.

He said Yasin Malik is not being provided appropriate medical facilities in jail which is his due right. He warned authorities of dire consequences if this “ill-treatment” with JKLF chairman continues.

JKLF spokesperson asked the party leadership spread all over the world to show patience and wait for party high command directives for any protests against the government of India.

“JKLF has the capacity to launch a political campaign all over the world against India for its repressive policies in Jammu Kashmir,” Dar said, adding, “The news of Yasin Malik’s ill health has been a severe cause of concern for not only his family members but for party cadres and millions of people of the State too who love and follow him”.

“In order to save Yasin Malik sahib’s life”, the JKLF chief spokesperson appealed the local and international human rights organizations like UNHRC, Amnesty International, Asia Watch and human rights defenders to take notice of his health condition and impress upon India to provide basic human rights of the jailed political leader.

He criticized Indian authorities for “not providing such rights to other freedom loving Kashmiri leaders who have been languishing in Indian jails for years together”.

Meanwhile, a high level JKLF delegation visited the residences of Chairman Trumboo Cement Industry (TCI) Abdul Ahad Tramboo and head priest of Hazratbal Shrine Ghulam Hassan Banday who passed away recently.

The delegation offered condolences with the bereaved families and prayed for prayed for highest status in Jannah for the deceased. (GNS)
