Authorities not to allow procession in Old City Tomorrow

Srinagar, May 20 : The authorities have decided not to allow a procession led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in Old City of Srinagar district tomorrow.

The authorities have ordered imposition of restrictions in parts of old city in view of a shutdown call was given by Joint Resistance Leaders (JRL) on Tuesday (May 21) to commemorate the death anniversaries of Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq, martyrs of 1990 Hawal massacre and Abdul Gani Gani.

A senior officer of the administration confirmed to GNS that the curbs will be imposed in Nowhatta, Safakadal, Rainwari, M.R Gung and Khanyar police stations.

He said that the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in wake of the strike call by separatists tomorrow.

Mirwaiz is scheduled to lead a protest demonstration from Jamia Masjid to the martyrs’ graveyard at Eidgah tomorrow as a mark of tribute to Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq on his death anniversary.

The JRL has urged people to observe shutdown tomorrow in memory of Mirwaiz Farooq and others. (GNS)

Woman dies after hit by mini bus in Watergam

Rafiabad, May 20 : A woman died after mini bus hit with her at Watergam in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday evening.

Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said a speedy mini bus bearing registration number JK05 5691 hit with a woman who identified as Shameema Begum wife of Abdul Salam Gorji of Watergam Rafiabad.

Reports said that she was critically injured in the mishap, however on way to hospital she succumbed to her injuries.

Meanwhile a police official also confirmed this incident to Kashmir Despatch and said driver of the vehicle has been arrested and further investigation has been initiated.

BJP winning or losing isn’t the end of the world, says Mehbooba

Srinagar: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said that winning or losing of Bharatiya Janta Party was not the end of the world.

The former BJP ally and PDP president was commenting on the exit polls that have predicted a BJP  victory in the Lok Sabha elections.

The only female chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir while taking to her Twitter praised the system and journalists that stood up and raised their voices, “BJP winning or losing isn’t the end of the world. True that institutions were subverted & press standards plummeted.Yet many in the system & journalists with integrity stood up & raised their voices. Hope these results don’t deter their resolve to fight for what’s right.” she wrote.

Exit polls have predicted another term for sitting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling alliance led by Hindu-nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

National Democratic Alliance (NDA), BJP-led alliance is projected to win 287 seats in the 545-member lower house of parliament, called the Lok Sabha, followed by 128 for the Indian National Congress party-led opposition alliance, CVoter exit poll said on Sunday.

NAAC grants A+ accreditation to University of Kashmir

National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) granted the University of Kashmir  A+ accreditation.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) is an organization that assesses and accredits higher education Institutions (HEIs) in India. It is an autonomous body funded by the University Grants Commission of Government of India.

The NAAC teams conducted an assessment in the University from May 1 to 4 this year.

Pulwama, 20 May. Today Police Station Rajpora received report from one Mohd. Arshid Khan S/O Mohd. Amin Khan R/O Bandi District Rajouri A/P Akhal Rajpora that his brother namely Mohd. Imran Khan, Age- 12 years, is missing since 18/05/2019.

The said boy left home for some domestic work & has not returned home till date.

Following this information manhunt was launched to trace the missing boy.

CASO launched in Pulwama village in south Kashmir

Srinagar: Government forces on Monday afternoon launched cordon and search operation in Malangpora village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Official sources said that on specific inputs about the presence of militants joint team of forces including 55 RR launched search operation in the area.

Pakistan name final World Cup squad; Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Amir included

Pakistan on Monday announced the final ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 squad.

Junaid Khan and Faheem Ashraf have made way  from the squad in favour of Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz.

Asif Ali has replaced Abid Ali in the side. While spinner Shahdab Khan who was unable to play in the series against England due to illness rejoined the team was retained in the squad.

“Wahab Riaz is an experienced bowler and knows how to use the old ball and reverse swing,” chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq was quoted as saying by Geo News.

Fast bowler Mohammad Amir who was included for the England series had been initially dropped from the World Cup squad. While he did not play in the ODI series against England, Amir has performed well in England in the past.

“There is no panic. I spoke to the captain and coach before taking these decisions,” Inzamam told reporters.
The Pakistani bowling failed to impress in the series against England, leading to calls to make changes prior to the World Cup.

“We are not bowling and fielding up to the mark but the way we are batting I am very confident for the World Cup…Our openers and middle order are scoring runs and we have to sort out our fielding and bowling,” said skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed.

Police starts probe into mysterious death of Bandipora teacher

Srinagar, May 20 : Body of a government school teacher missing from last week was recovered from Wullar Lake under mysterious conditions near Leharwalpora in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Monday.

The police has started proceedings under 174 CrPc into the nature of death.

Reports reaching GNS said some locals spotted the body in the Lake near Leharwalpora today morning and accordingly informed the concerned police station.

A police team immediately reached the spot and retrieved the body from the lake, they said.

The deceased has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmed Lone (27) son of Abdul Rehman Lone of Gurez at present Sheikhpora Colony Mantrigam Bandipora.

Mushtaq, a teacher by profession had left to attend his duty at Government High Secondary School Chuntimulla on May 13 but did not returned since then.

Confirming the incident, SSP Bandipora Rahul Malik said that an FSL team was rushed to the spot for medical examination.

“The medical team has been constituted for post-mortem including experts from GMC srinagar in the presence of Magistrate,” he said.

Proper photography and videography is being done of entire proceedings. Rest all other medico legal formalities of the deceased are being done, he said.

We are awaiting FSL and medical report to come to ascertain the actual cause of death, he said.

“An enquiry under 174 CrPc has been initiated and further investigations have been taken up,” the officer added.

Pertinently, the family members and neighbors held a protest demonstration on May 18 and had urged administration for help in tracing their missing kin. (GNS)

Kulgam attack: Injured PDP activist succumbs in SKIMS

Srinagar, May 19 : A 65-year-old worker of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who was injured critically yesterday after fired upon by unknown gunmen, succumbed to his wounds in SKIMS Soura on Monday.

Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, Dr Farooq Jan told GNS Mohd Jamal Bhat son of Mohd Ismail Bhat succumbed to injuries today at around 9:30 am.

Jamal, the PDP worker, was fired upon by unknown gunmen outside his residence at Zangalpora in Kulgam on Sunday evening.

He was taken to Kulgam hospital from where he was shifted to SKIMS, the Valley’s only tertiary care hospital.

He was immediately operated upon at SKIMS and died this morning.

A senior police officer had said, “Police have taken the cognizance and investigations are on.”

Jamal was PDP’s polling agent during the recently concluded Parliamentary election. (GNS)
