Geelani pays tributes to slain civilians, militants

0

Srinagar, May 17 : Paying rich tributes to the youth martyred in Pulwama and Shopian encounters, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani said that blood-bath, death and destruction all around in the valley is only because of Indian rulers, who very cunningly are still in denial mode.

In a statement issued , condemning the use of brute force against the civilians, he said that on the pretext of search and cordon operations common people especially youth are deliberately targeted with bullets and pellets by the men in uniform. In this grim situation the life of common people has became miserable and vulnerable at the hands of armed forces in every nook and corner of the state especially in South Kashmir.

Paying glorious tributes to the slain militants and civilians in Pulwama and Shopian carnage, Hurriyat (G) chairman said that New Delhi through its forces has crossed all the limits of barbarism in Kashmir by killings, arresting, torturing and detaining Kashmiries regardless of age and gender to force them surrender before their military might, but India will never succeed in its nefarious designs in diluting and crushing the sentiment of freedom and ongoing movement for inalienable right to self-determination, as Kashmiri people are determined to continue the ongoing sacred movement of the martyrs till it reaches the logical conclusion and will never allow these supreme sacrifices go waste.

He said that even after massacres on daily basis, men in uniform are not satisfied, they kill youth in broad-day-light and in the dead of night raid their house to pick them up and subject them to ruthless treatment in police stations and other interrogation centers.

Pro-freedom leader said that agencies push our youth to wall where they leave no other way than to take an extreme step, so that the occupation forces have a reason to eliminate them.

Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman said that suffocating the entire nation, economically handicapping them and infusing fear of life and livelihood–Indian brute forces leave no stone unturned to throttle our innocent people especially youth so that they succumb to this tyranny and content themselves with Indian slavery, but this cunning tactics have never worked in past nor will they work today.

“People are conscious and aware of the dreaded, catastrophic and disastrous effects of occupation and can never yield to this highhandedness and arrogance,” he said.

Hurriyat (G) chairman said that our nation has proved it beyond doubt far the last 71 years and will continue to do so in future as well till India accepts this hard reality and respects its own commitments made on national and International fora.

J&K Assembly polls under active consideration: ECI

Ishtyaq Ahmad

Srinagar, May 17 : The Election Commission of India said that it is regularly monitoring the situation in Jammu and Kashmir for appropriate time to conduct the Assembly polls.

Top sources in the election commission told that the Commission is expected to take a call soon on holding Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which were deferred during announcement of Parliament polls on March 10 by it citing security reasons.

“Commission is ready to hold the assembly elections, but final decision has to be taken in consultations with the MHA officials and the State Government representatives as all stakeholders must be ready for the exercise,” sources maintained.

The Commission had already held meeting with the MHA officials besides with state government top officials.

The three Special Observers including Noor Mohammad, retired IAS officer, Vinod Zutshi, retired Deputy Election Commissioner and AS Gill, retired IPS officer, had already submitted their report to the Commission giving options to the poll body on conduct of Assembly elections in the State.

The Observers had suggested three options including holding the Assembly election in June between Eid and Amarnath Ji yatra, September-October i.e. after completion of pilgrimage and Monsoon or November-December like 2008 and 2004 when Nomads also return to the plains from upper reaches and can cast their votes, which would increase the voter turnout.

The annual Amarnath pilgrimage will start on July 1 and culminate on August 15.

As per the Election Commission guidelines, the Assembly elections had to be held within six months of dissolution of the House, that is before May 21, 2019 as previous Assembly was dissolved on November 21, 2018 by Governor Satya Pal Malik following claims and counter claims by two fronts-one led by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and another by Sajjad Lone’s People’s Conference-to form the Government. However, the Election Commission can defer the Assembly elections beyond six months in view of security considerations.

Governor’s rule was imposed in the State on June 19, 2018 following withdrawal of support to Mehbooba Mufti-led Government by the BJP. After expiry of six months term of Governor’s rule, the State came under the President’s rule on December 19, 2018, which too will expire on June 19, 2019.

If new Government is not formed till June 19, the Central Government had to extend the term of President’s rule by another six months. (KNS)

JKDFP hails Pakistan for goodwill gesture about Indian prisoners

0

Srinagar, May 17 : Hailing Pakistan for its goodwill gesture of releasing Indian prisoners, Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) has said that the largest democracy of the world must also release Kashmiri political prisoners before EID so that they can celebrate the festival with their nears and dears. The Freedom Party Spokesperson said in a statement that Pakistan government has exhibited maturity by its goodwill gesture and set an example to follow.

In a statement issued, JKDFP Spokesperson praised the resolve and unflinching stance of its incarcerated chief, Shabir Shah towards the long standing Kashmir dispute, saying Shabir Shah despite his serious ailments is bravely resisting the hardships of Tihar jail. Shabir Shah is in his 32 year of imprisonment for advocating the right to self determination of the people of Jammu Kashmir. The people of Kashmir have also time and again acknowledged the unmatched sacrifices of Shabir Shah.

JKDFP Spokesperson expressed serious concern over the pathetic condition Kashmiri political prisoners are made to face in and outside the state jails especially in Tihar Jail. He said that despite being political prisoners they are denied every right guaranteed in the jail manual. Revengeful attitude of the rulers in Delhi has crossed every limit of heartlessness and insensitivity. New Delhi willfully prolongs their stay in jails through judicial victimization.

JKDFP said that slow and humiliating judicial process has already ruined the lives of so many young Kashmiri innocents who were arrested on factious cases and are yet to be augmented with the documentary evidence of their so called crimes.

New Delhi is prolonging the imprisonment of Shabir Shah, Mohammad Yasin Malik, Peer Saifullah, Altaf Ahamad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Raja Meraj-ud-Din Kalwal, Nayeem Ahamad Khan, Shahid-ul-Islam, Farooq Ahamad Dar, Shahid Yousaf, Syed Shakeel Ahmad, businessman Zahoor Ahamad Watali, Asia Andrabi, Fahmeedah Sofi, Naheedah Nasreen and other political prisoners languishing in Tihar jail Delhi.

JKDFP said that it is unfortunate that the Indian fascist ruling class treats our resistance leaders like criminals in jails which have been turned into worst interrogation centres. Hailing the uncompromising courage and dedication and undented commitment with the resistance movement, JKDFP said that our political prisoners including, Shabir Shah, Dr. Mohammad Qasim, Dr. Shafi Sharyati, Dr. Gh. Mohammad Bhat, Masarat Aalam Bhat, Muzuffar Ahmad Dar, Talib Hussain, Ghulam Qadir Bhat, Mohammad Ayoub Dar, Mohammad Ayoub Mir and others are the torch bearers of the resistance movement.

The JKDFP Spokesperson hailed the resolve of Javaid Khan who is languishing in Tihar jail since last 24years. He said that Mirza Nisar, Latif Ahmed Waza, Ali Mohammad Bhat and Abdul Gani Ghoni are also praise worthy who are facing hardships since last 24 years in Jaipur and other jails.

JKDFP appealed United Nations Human Rights Commission, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and International Red cross to monitor and see the pathetic and inhuman treatment meted out to Kashmiri political prisoners and pressurize India to stop its inhuman and undemocratic attitude towards these political prisoners.

Bedtime blood pressure medication prevents heart attacks, strokes: DAK

0

Srinagar, May 17 : On World Hypertension Day, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Thursday said taking blood pressure lowering medication at bedtime prevents heart attacks and strokes.

“If you take your blood pressure pill at bedtime, you have less chances of getting a heart attack or stroke,” said DAK President Dr Nisar ul Hassan.

Quoting a study, Dr Nisar said patients who took blood pressure pills at bedtime were one-third less likely to suffer from a heart attack or stroke than those who took pills in the morning.

“Blood pressure shows a 24-hour rhythm, higher during the day and lower during nighttime. However, people with high blood pressure do not exhibit this nighttime dip. This non-dipping increase the risk of heart attack and stroke,” he said.

“Sleep-time blood pressure is best reduced when medication is taken at bedtime,” he added.

“Based on the study, it is time to reconsider the timing of your blood pressure medication,” Dr Nisar said.

“If you are taking only one pill, take it at nighttime. If you are taking more than one drug, then taking one of them at night before bed makes sense,” he said.

Dr Nisar said high blood pressure, also called hypertension is a silent killer and a modern epidemic and is the most important cause of preventable death.

“Many people don’t know they have high blood pressure. There are no symptoms and some people only find out after they suffer a heart attack or stroke,” he said.

“One of the problems is that less than half the people with hypertension have had their blood pressure measured and their condition diagnosed. Of those who have been diagnosed, less than half are treated – so this is an enormous health issue,” said Dr Nisar.

“Every year on May 17, World Hypertension Day is observed to raise awareness about high blood pressure among people and to encourage them to prevent and control this silent killer,” he said.

China deploys deadly divine eagle jet UAVs & H-6K bombers adjacent to India: Report

0

The Chinese forces have deployed the deadly Diving Eagle Jet UAVs and H-6K bombers at its two airbases near areas adjacent to India.

According to a report, China’s People Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) is operating the Divine Eagle Jet UAVs from Malan airbase and H-6K bombers from the Hoping airbase

Divine Eagle UAVs are known to be the world largest unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The length of the Diving Eagle Jet UAV is about 15 metres and its wings size is about 35-45 metres. China claims that these UAVs can also detect stealth fighters like the F-22 and F-35 of the USA.

On the other hand, the deadly H-6 bomber of China’s People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) is a variant of the Tupolev TU-16 twin-engine medium-range bomber of the erstwhile Soviet Union. The latest version is the H-6K, which has been designed for long-range attacks and is a strategic bomber. Some reports say it is capable of even attacking the US carrier battle groups having the nuclear-strike capability.

The H-6K bombers on Hoping Airfield of Tibet are just 200 kilometres from the Indian border in Sikkim. The deployment of Divine Eagle Jet UAVs at Malan airfield is also a cause of concern for the Indian security agencies. Malan airfield is located in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region.

“India wants a better relationship with China. Both countries have been engaged in efforts to overcome mutual differences to maintain peace in the region but the way China is engaged in strengthening its defence preparedness from Tibet to Xinjiang is a matter of concern for us,” an Indian security establishment officer said.

The report states that People’s Liberation of Army (PLA) has taken full control of Hoping Airfield and it has been placed under Western Theater Command (WTC). Hoping Airbase is also known as a Shigatse Airport and is a dual-use military and civilian airport. PLA is also reported to have inducted 155mm calibre vehicle mounted Howitzer in WTC.

The dispute between India and China over Doklam in June-August 2017 may have subsided but China has been constantly engaged in strengthening defence preparedness in the border areas. China’s PLA has also built several new military camps in the border areas.

Intelligence inputs also suggest that there is a secret guided missile unit in China’s Yuxi about 900 kilometres from Arunachal Pradesh. China has deployed its 622 Missile Brigade in Yuxi equipped with guided missiles. China is also deploying long-range kill missiles at this new base.

China has already strengthened its Western Theater Command against India and with the new revelation about the new Missile Brigade in the South Theater Command, Indian agencies have been busy constantly monitoring the development. .

Modi addresses first press conference in five years, takes no questions

Addressing his first press conference in five years Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the country has decided BJP is winning.

“The people of the country have decided that our government will be formed. I hope that the new government will start functioning at the earliest,” Modi said was quoted as saying by India Today.

“It will happen after a long time in the country, our Government will come to power with absolute majority for second consecutive time,” he said.

Amit Shah said the press conference was organised to give the party’s view on the completion of campaigning for the 2019 Lok Sabha election.

Speaking about the campaign Amit Shah said slogans like ‘fir ek baar Modi sarkar’ and ‘main bhi chowkidar’ were not given by the BJP leadership but by the “common BJP volunteers”.

After he ended his remarks, BJP president Amit Shah took questions from the media.

Dialogue between India and Pakistan only way to resolve J&K: Dr Kamal

0

Srinagar, May 17 : Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr. Sheikh Mustufa Kamal on Friday asserted that result oriented dialogue between India and Pakistan is the only way to resolve the issue of J&K.

In a statement issued , additional general secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal said that the issue of Jammu and Kashmir is not a consequence of lack of development rather the issue is political in nature. “The issue has held hostage the development of the sub-continent. Our party has all along maintained that the dialogue between the two nations affords a way out,” he said.

Additional general secretary further added, “The issue of J&K has been lingering since 1947, how long shall our people suffer? No sooner we impress for a political solution of our state, we are out rightly tainted as anti national. This has to stop. The government has to see what holds good for the greater good of the country and the sub-continent at large. The BJP led government at centre is using Kashmir to leverage its poll prospects elsewhere in the country which is bound to have serious ramifications for the country’s unity and integrity.”

Dr Kamal said, “During its stint in power the BJP has only amplified the hate against minorities particularly Muslims. This is not the idea of India which was visualized by the founders of a modern day India nation-state; they visualized a secular progressive country shorn of all prejudices and hate. PM Modi has not a speck of affection for the minorities. The other day when a Hindu police officer lost his life while saving a Muslim man from the mob frenzy of communalists, PM Modi didn’t come up with a word of homage and accolade for the slain police officer. This people see with their own eyes? Now it is upto people to decide if they allow such a person to continue to be in the vanguard of the new government after elections,” he said.

Dr. Kamal while flaying PM Modi for creating a humanitarian crisis in Kashmir by banning civilian traffic on national highway for two days a week said, “There was a marked difference in the security scenario of the state. However what good was accomplished in state suffered a setback during the reign of former BJP-PDP led coalition government. People still remember how painstakingly Dr. Farooq Abdullah led government made GoI under the then BJP led NDA to have parleys with militants and other sections of the society. However what good was achieved in successive NC led government in terms of peace and rapprochement was put into a chasm by BJP and PDP.”

He further said that the state suffered substantial attacks on its special status during the stint of former BJP-PDP coalition government. “The GST bill we have been resisting was implanted by her only. The new tax regime has affected hoteliers, taxi drivers, craftsmen, edibles, books and other marginal traders. We have cautioned her about the implementation of GST but she didn’t heed our pleas. There has been steep increase in the price of cooking gas cylinders; poor families find it very difficult to refill the cylinders. How can PDP protect our special status, it was PDP that destroyed the financial autonomy of our state?”.
