At least 52 Taliban militants killed by Afghan army

Srinagar : Afghan army killed at least 52 Taliban militants, including two key comanders in Ghazni province on Sunday, reports said.

According to reports, up to 52 Taliban militants were killed following three separate Afghan National Army commando operations and airstrikes against since early Saturday, Xinhua news agency reported the Defense Ministry as saying.

The two commanders were identified as Abu Khalid and Qumandan Sarhadi, it added.

The Ghazni province, 125 km south of Kabul, has been in the news for heavy clashes and fighting since long time.

However, the Taliban has not commented on the incident yet.

LS Polls: Youths clash with forces in Shopian

Srinagar: Massive clashes broke out between youth and government forces at several places in Shopian district of South Kashmir on Sunday evening, reports said.

As soon as authorities started deployment of polling staff and government forces at polling booths, intense clashes and stone pelting was reported from Bongam, Bonabazar and Meemandar Shopian areas of the district.

Earlier authorities have pressed helicopter into service to ferry election staff and EVMs to more than two dozen booths in “sensitive” Zainapora sub division of the district.

Clashes were going on when this report was filed.

Two army soldiers injured in IED blast along LoC in Kupwara

Srinagar, May 5 (GNS): Two armymen were injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast at Khanthawala area of LoC in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday.

Official sources told GNS that two army soldiers of 2/8 GR received serious wounds in their legs at Khanthawali Post area along the Line of Control in the explosion.

The blast occurred when one among the injured soldiers stepped over the IED in the area, they said.

A police officer while confirming it said that both the injured were taken to nearby health facility where from they have shifted to army’s 92 base hospital Badamibagh Srinagar for advanced treatment. (GNS)

Will arrange Gambhir’s visa for better treatment in Pakistan: Shahid Afridi

Srinagar: Pakistan’s former cricketer and Al-rounder, Shahid Khan Afridi has once again reacted to Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhirs ‘psychatrist remark’ and said that ‘he would arrange visa for the treatment of Mr. Gambhir in Pakistan.’

“I think Gautam Gambhir may have some problems. I am working with hospitals and I can get him very good treatment here,” Afridi said,  “The Indian Government doesn’t normally give visas to our people, but I will welcome everyone from India to Pakistan. Our people and our Government have always welcomed Indians and as for Gautam, I will get a visa arranged so that his treatment can be done here,” he added.

Mr. Afridi made the comments at the launch of his controversial autobiography ‘Game Changer’  in  Karachi on Saturday while terming Mr. Gambhir as someone who has no personality and the one who has a lot of attitude problem.

Mr. Afridi had tweeted,  “Some rivalries were personal, some professional. First the curious case of Gambhir. Oh poor Gautam. He & his attitude problem. He who has no personality. He who is barely a character in the great scheme of cricket. He who has no great records just a lot of attitude.”

The battle of words had started when Afridi also took a jibe at Gambhir by referring him as a cross between Don Bradman and James Bond. “Gambhir behaves like he’s a cross between Don Bradman & James Bond. In Karachi we call guys like him saryal (burnt up). It’s simple, I like happy, positive people. Doesn’t matter if they are aggressive or competitive, but you have to be positive & Gambhir wasn’t,” he further wrote in his autobiography.

Army porter injured in Rajouri shelling

Rajouri, May 05:(GNS) An army porter was injured in Pakistani shelling at Keri sector area of Rajouri district Sunday afternoon.

A police officer said that the army porter Mohammad Mahroof son of Makhan Mohammad a resident of Challas village received critical splinter injuries after Pakistan army attacked Indian army posts in the area.

The injured porter was shifted to nearby hospital where from he was referred to Army command hospital for treatment.(GNS)

Cross border shelling rages in Poonch, Rajouri

Rajouri/Poonch May 05: Armies of India and Pakistan on Sunday trade fresh exchange of shelling in Rajouri and Poonch districts of J&K.

An army officer said that at about 1100 hours, Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by shelling with artillery and firing with small arms along LoC in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch and in Keri sector of Rajouri.

Indian army is retaliating strongly, the officer added.(GNS)

Srinagar, May 5 : Darbar move employees on Sunday rued lack of discipline maintained by the traffic authorities on Srinagar-Jammu highway as gridlocks along the thoroughfare were witnessed on Sunday.

Vice President Civil Secretariat Employees Association Suresh Bedi told GNS that the traffic authorities have allowed two way traffic on the highway leading to the gridlocks.

He said that even advance parties face hardships and could not reach Valley on time which shows the failure of the government.

“What was the fun of reviewing the arrangements when nothing has transpired for employees well being on ground,” he said, adding employees will wear black bands as a mark of protest against it as well as against the non-fulfillments of the employees demands tomorrow here in Srinagar on the first day of re-opening of Civil Secretariat,” he said.

“Despite announcement of allowing one way traffic, the traffic authorities have allowed two way traffic on the highway which has led to massive traffic jams and we are stuck in Ramsoo for more than an hour now and we are not sure as to how much will it take for authorities to restore the traffic,”

Meanwhile, some senior employees of the civil Secretariat who took Mughal road to reach Valley said that they faced tremendous hardships due to alleged harassment by the army along the thoroughfare.

“We were unnecessarily stopped at many places by the army. Despite showing our Identity cards the forces personnel continued to harass us. One can imagine the hardships undergone by the common people and especially those suffering various ailments,” they said. (GNS)

Srinagar, May 05: Raj Bhavan Spokes-person has stated that Governor, Satya Pal Malik is very much pained about the killing of Gul Muhammad Mir, a veteran Political leader.
Governor has directed Sh. BVR Subrahmanyam, Chief Secretary to get an enquiry conducted into the killings of political people belonging to various political parties in the state in the last few months.
Governor has asked for identifying any lapses on the part of security agencies regarding ensuring security of political people and has emphasized that from now onwards , all political people should be protected at every cost.

PM condemns BJP leader’s killing in Anantnag

Srinagar, May 05 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday condemned the killing of a BJP leader in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, saying there is no place for violence in the country.

Militants shot dead BJP’s district vice-president Gul Mohammed Mir in his house in at Nowpora, Verinag in Anantnag on Saturday night.

“Strongly condemn the killing of @BJP4JnK leader Shri Ghulam Mohammed Mir. His contribution towards strengthening the party in J&K will always be remembered,” Modi tweeted.

Extending condolences, he said, “There is no place for such violence in our country.” (KNS)

Unidenfied Decomposed male body found in Poonch

Poonch, May 5: An unidentified decomposed body of man was recovered from Dhalara area in Poonch District of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday morning.

A senior police official told GNS that some locals this morning found a decomposed dead body of Male probably having age of 57-58 lying near a river bank at Dhalara .

A police team reached immediately to the spot and took the possession of the body and shifted it to District Hospital for identification and postmortem, the officer said.

The police officer further said that in this connection, inquest proceedings under 174 CrPC have been initiated at concerned police station.(GNS)
