Modi is ‘nikamma’, sold the interest of nation: Sidhu

0

Cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu Saturday alleged Prime Minister Narendra Modi “ruined” government companies and “favoured” private firms in his five years of rule and accused him of being “anti-national for selling the interest of the nation”.

The Congress leader also described PM Modi as “nikamma” (useless) and said he should stop harping on the issue of nationalism to garner votes and talk about the matters of national interest.

Addressing a press conference here, the Punjab minister alleged, “Modi is the business development manager of Ambani and Adani, as he has favoured them at the cost of state-run firms.”

Sidhu also alleged that while SBI and MTNL are accruing losses, PM Modi is endorsing private companies like Paytm and Reliance Jio.

“Adani and Ambani accompanied the prime minister on foreign visits and 18 big projects, which should have ideally been given to government companies, were handed over to them,” he claimed.

The Congress leader alleged that the “chowkidar” took care only of the rich and ignored the rest 99 per cent of the population.

“And the prime minister says he’s the chowkidar of the nation. He’s the chowkidar of the top 1 per cent of the population. He never took chairmen of government companies along with him on his foreign tours. Are government firms not good enough?” Sidhu asked.

“Modi sold the interest of the nation. He’s anti-national,” Sidhu alleged.

The prime minister should stop harping on the issue of nationalism to garner votes and talk about the matters of national interest, he said. (with PTI inputs)

LoC Trade Suspension leaves thousands jobless, in debt: KCCI

0

Srinagar

A spokesperson of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Saturday objected to the “defamatory” campaign against and suspension of the Cross LOC Trade. The issue was discussed in an Emergency Meeting of the Executive Committee.

The spokesperson said that it was unfortunate that the Cross LOC Trade which had been introduced as a Trade for Peace and was one of the most important CBM’s agreed to by the top leadership of both the Countries had become a casualty of indifference and apathy.

Over the years, no effective steps were taken to implement various suggestions given by stakeholders. Demands aimed at bringing transparency to the trade including installation of a Full Body Scanner, Close Circuit Television Camera’s (CCTV’s), Banking Facility, Communication Infrastructure, re-verification of traders, regular rotation of officials posted at Trade Facilitation Centres etc have been ignored. The decision of installation of Full Body Scanner has been taken several years ago but has been caught in procedural delays.

In July 2018, the then Hon’ble Governor N N Vohra had issued deadlines for the implementation of the above measures but till date, no action has been taken resulting in the suspension of the trade itself.

The statements regarding misuse and manipulation of the trade indicate serious flaws in the guidelines of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s). The allegation that businessman Zahoor Ahmed Wattali was the President of LOC Traders Association is also unsubstantiated as per our knowledge. This has allowed the alleged flow of narcotics, fake currency and weapons into the State. In view of the serious nature of the allegations, responsibility needs to be fixed for the glaring lapses.

The order of suspension has been issued without taking into account the difficulties genuine traders would be facing. No opportunity has been given to settle accounts and traders have been left with huge stocks, many of them perishable, which would be of no use. In addition, thousands of persons connected with the trade have been rendered jobless and in debt.

The various onslaughts by different outfits on our special status is nothing new, the people of Jammu and Kashmir always showed steadfastness in guarding its interests admirably whenever anyone tried to fiddle with it. NC is committed to protecting state’s special status; we will strive towards the implementation of autonomy resolution. I fail to understand why aren’t they able to understand that our state is not like any other state of India. We didn’t merge with the union; we are the only state that kept its own constitution. I challenge them to do away with the constitutional provisions. The people of our state won’t allow you to do it,” adding, “Once elected from this constituency, I will work for state’s identity both within and outside the parliament.”

Relaxation in restrictions on Jammu Srinagar Highway NH 44

0

Jammu, Apr 20 : Earlier this month, the Government had imposed restrictions on civilian movement on the National Highway (NH-44) connecting Jammu to Srinagar, in order to ensure adequate security to the movement of Security Forces’ Convoys while at the same time minimizing public inconvenience.

It may be recalled that there has been a large movement of security forces on an unprecedented scale after the Pulwama terror attack. These forces were required both for anti-militancy operations and for conducting General Elections peacefully. In order to facilitate unhindered and secure movement of Security Forces’ Convoys, the Government had imposed a prohibition on civilian traffic on NH-44 from Baramulla to Udhampur twice a week, i.e. on Sunday & Wednesday, from 4.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m. Although this was only for 15% of the total time in a week, the Government was also keen to minimize inconvenience to the public. Elaborate arrangements were made by the local administration to facilitate the movement of public during the period of restriction. This included provision of Travel Passes for covering (i) various emergencies, including medical emergencies, (ii) school buses, (iii) students appearing in examinations, (iv) Government employees on duty, (v) hospital staff on duty, (vi) passengers travelling by air, 9vii) political persons needing to campaign, etc. Besides, over 100 Executive Magistrates were deployed to ensure smooth movement of Security Forces’ Convoys and also facilitate civilian movement. Divisional Commissioners have been additional arrangements at the local level to facilitate public movement.

The Government is monitoring the convoy needs of security forces on a real time basis and making all attempts to minimize public inconvenience. For example, no restrictions were imposed on 17-04-2019, although it was a convoy day (Wednesday) as there was no need for movement of Security Force Convoys.

The Government has once again reviewed the requirement of security forces, particularly in the light of successful conduct of elections in Baramulla & Jammu on 11-04-2019 and Srinagar & Kathua on 18-04-2019. As the requirement of Security Forces is now reducing as they are de-inducted, the Government has decided to partially relax the restrictions on traffic imposed earlier as follows: –

1. The restriction on civilian movement between Srinagar and Baramulla on NH-44 would now be limited only to Sunday w.e.f. 22-04-2019. There would be no prohibition on civilian traffic on Wednesday.

2. The restrictions would continue between Srinagar and Udhampur on NH-44 as earlier. However, these would be reviewed periodically and relaxation would be made as the need for restriction reduces.

3. Even on the days of restrictions, i.e. Sunday and Wednesday between Srinagar and Udhampur and on Sunday between Baramulla and Srinagar, the local administration would continue to facilitate movement of civilian traffic as has been happening in the last two weeks. Further, the local administration and police would examine the possibility of allowing public transport of JKSRTC to move during the period of restriction on the NH even on convoy days.

4. A complete review of restrictions on the Highway would be done after the last phase of elections on 06-05-2019 to examine the need for continuing with them.

The Government stated that the purpose of these restrictions is in the larger interest of security of everyone and appealed the people to extend full cooperation in the smooth regulation of traffic. The Government is alive to the needs of people and inconvenience caused to them while being cognizant of the needs of security forces. The restrictions strike a balance between the two. The restrictions will be reviewed on a real time basis and modifications will be made as necessary in the coming days. (KNS)

Stop marketing sentiments, aspirations of people of Kashmir: Sajad tells Omar

0

Srinagar, Apr 20 : Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone on Saturday said that the inability of mainstream parties to deliver is partly responsible for low participation of people in the election process.

“What have you done to the people? Why aren’t people coming out in hordes like in other states to join the polling queue. We are relatively new in mainstream politics; you are a 70-year-old party. Unfortunately, we have become victims of the pessimism that people share about mainstream politics. We do agree that there is a lot of ideological boycott but part of it is also against the inability of the mainstreamers to deliver”, Sajad said in a statement.

Criticising the NC for their failure to deliver on their lofty promises, Sajad said that people of Kashmir know that for generations the Abdullahs’ have been lying to them.

“Mr. Omar Abdullah you have to answer, what have you done to these people? Why aren’t they coming out? Wherever we went there is a general pessimism and negative attitude towards false promises. You promised them the elusive moon; short of ‘Azaadi’ you have promised them everything under the sky. And look at the numbers in Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency you have been able to attract. This shows that people know you are lying. They know you always lie through your teeth, that for generations you have been lying to them. Had they taken your promises seriously, put your hand on your heart, wouldn’t there have been 80% polling”, he added.

While expressing gratitude to the voters of Srinagar Parliament Constituency for reposing their faith in Peoples Conference Sajad said that the lack of queues outside polling stations is a big question mark on the politics of the mainstream parties.

“We thank the people of Srinagar the way they came and voted against the traditional parties. We are confident of our victory and hope that we are able to deliver and be greeted with long queues of voters the next time we go out to ask vote. Polling day in most of the parts was more about the solitude of the polling staff and less about the excitement of polls. We would have though that a four-time Chief Minister in the fray would have meant huge queues at the polling booths. The lack of huge queues is a question for us also but the bigger question to the so called 70-year old party, so-called upholder of the Kashmiri rights.
Maybe the traditional parties have become immune to low turnouts but we feel that low polling is a humiliation that we all face at the hands of the majority that stays indoors.”

Sajad said that the Omar Abdullah should stop marketing the sentiments and aspirations of the people of Kashmir by making false promises.

“The ‘finale moment’ will come one day, that is for sure. But don’t make a mockery of this issue. This issue is sacred to the people of Kashmir. It enjoys sanctity across all sections of people. This ‘finale moment’ will hopefully come very soon despite you. Because you are the ones who facilitated erosion steadily over the last five decades. You are the ones who stole the ‘finale moment’ in 1996 by accepting power without internal autonomy and blowing away that chance. Stop marketing this, this is not about marketing Mr. Omar Abdullah, this is not about the event management companies you have hired, this is about a sentiment, this is about an aspiration. Please don’t sully these aspirations. Stop, have mercy on the faith of these and on the faith of the people of Kashmir”, he added.

Outlining the criterion involved for the recruitment, the Chairman informed, “A notification for recruitment of Probationary Officers and Banking Associate posts was released on 6th October, 2018 with qualification criteria of 60% marks and 30 years age for Probationary Officers and 55% and 32 years for Banking Associates i.e. Clerks which was subsequently on the requests of a large number of candidates revised to 50% marks and 35 years. The Bank received approximately 1.47 lacs applications comprising of 37500 for the post of Probationary Officer and 107000 for the post of Banking Associates.”“The tests are being conducted online by The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) which is the nodal agency for conducting written tests for recruitment in all nationalized Banks & State Bank of India in the country. IBPS is an agency of repute and immaculate track record whose governing board comprises of nominees from government organizations such as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Ministry of Finance- Government of India, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai, Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF), National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM), Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and the public sector banks. The arrangements for Online Conduct have been done by the IBPS in association with Tata Consultancy Services.” Added Parvez Ahmed

The Chairman informed that so as to facilitate a maximum number of candidates Bank has assisted TCS and IBPS in creating additional infrastructure in the state to accommodate the majority of the candidates. All this was done within a very short span of time. In Ladakh said the Chairman, “On the request of DC Leh infrastructure was created at Leh on fast track basis to accommodate Leh candidates within the division keeping in view the inclement weather and poor road connectivity.”

Wishing success to the candidates, the Chairman and CEO cautioned the candidates and their parents not to fall prey to the vested interests in the society who were misguiding the public in general and applicants in particular by making false offers. The Chairman said, “The Bank has maintained highest level of efficiency and transparency in the conduct of examination which is being organized as per the present timelines for a specific number of already decided posts and has dispensed with the interview for the posts of clerks and the merit list finalized by the IBPS will be the selection list”. The Bank he added reserves its right to initiate legal action against any person/ organization that may indulge in making false assurances/luring offers of appointment to mislead the general public.

While commending the teamwork and flawless execution skills of the staff of the bank, Parvez Ahmed added, “A  good number of our officials are working for quite some time on smooth conduct of examination directly or indirectly right from forecasting the number of vacancies, issuing of advertisement, putting in place the back end logistics for online application, processing of applications, coordinating with IBPS/TCS, booking of venue at multiple locations and now deputation for holding the examination. I must say it is the characteristic JK Bank teamwork on display with strong execution skills as a foundation”.

The Bank he added intended to complete the recruitment process expeditiously to carry forward its expansion plans to execute the transformation of the Bank as per its medium-term plan in which the bank is targeting a profit of Rs 2000 Cr by envisaging to expand its operations in J&K state where there is huge business opportunity lying untapped with a very low credit penetration at only 15-20% of the population. Rest of the population it is believed is presently being serviced by the exploitative informal channels of financing. Notably, the bank has scripted a fast turnaround story by reporting seven consecutive quarters of profitability after suffering huge losses on account of NPAs.
