Illegal timber seized from person escorted by PSO in Surankote

Poonch, April 7: Forest department Surankote on Sunday seized six logs of illegal timber from a person who was escorted by a PSO in this mountainous district of Poonch.

Official sources told GNS that the forest department waylaid a Tata mobile load carrier (JK12-5799) on way from Poshana to Surankote near Chandimargh area.

Range Officer Nissar Hussain told GNS that when forest department officials stopped the load carrier and a tempo accompanying it, the person along with his PSO, who was carrying his service rifle, alighted from the tempo and started to misbehave with the department official.

He said that while the load carrier along with the illegal timber logs were seized, the person along with the PSO managed to flee from the spot. He said that an FIR 1/2019-20 has been registered under the Forest Act. (GNS)

Srinagar, April 7 : National Conference president Farooq Abdullah Sunday said the Central government knew of the Pulwama attack beforehand but allowed it to happen because” Modi had to win elections.” 

Farooq, who led a protest of party members against the official ban on civilian traffic on Srinagar-Jammu highway two days a week to secure convoy movement on the thoroughfare, said: “we are being punished for no fault of ours.” 

“I want to ask them, are we living in a free country or is this a colony? They have imprisoned us,” he said, calling for revoking the ban “before there is more bloodshed.” 

“It’s their own mistake. They knew the attack was going to happen. Where did the explosives come from?  Modi had to win the elections, so he did this karnama (misdeed),” he said, lashing out at the Prime Minister. (GNS)

Mehbooba turns Geelani, asks people to come out on highway, defy ban

Srinagar, Apr 07 : PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti today expressed her anger and asked people to come on the highway and defy the ban.

Defying the ban herself, Mehbooba in her cavalcade that included many black Scorpio cars said that Kashmir belongs to Kashmiris and its roads are for Kashmiris.

“People do not need permission to play on the roads. Government of India should stop these suppressive tactics. They are not an occupational force here but this ban will not be tolerated at all. I cannot see my people suffering like this. On the way I saw people young and old walking along the highway,” she said.

Mehbooba said that PDP will take the matter to the court. “PDP will not let this happen at any cost,” she said. (KNS)

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti felt the heat of latest highway order that comes into effect from today, said that we wont allow India to turn our beloved land into an open air prison.

Mehbooba Mufti in a tweet said that ”Jis Kashmir ko khoon say seencha, woh Kashmir humara hai”. She said that this is Kashmir, not Palestine. We wont allow you to turn our beloved land into an open air prison. 

Earlier this day National Conference leader Omar Abdullah terms Kashmir highway closure a mindless decision.

NC leader’s residence attacked in south Kashmir

Unknown persons on Sunday lobbed a grenade at a residence of senior National Conference leader Sakina Itoo, in southern region of Kashmir.

An official said that a grenade was lobbed at the residence of senior NC leader and its South Zone President, Skina itoo in Damhal Hanjipora in south Kashmir.

however, there were no reports of loss of life or any damage.

Meanwhile, police have taken the cognizance of the incident.

NC, PDP protest highway ban order in Anantnag, Srinagar

Srinagar, April 7 : National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party on Sunday held separate protests in Srinagar and Anantnag against the ban on civilian traffic on highway from Baramulla to Udhampur.

Reports reaching GNS said that the NC Parliamentary Candidate Justice Hasnain Masoodi along with senior party leaders Peer Hussain and Abdul Majeed Larmi besides scores of workers took out a protest rally on highway near Wanpoh in Anantnag area of South Kashmir.

They were shouting slogans against the government banning the movement of civilian traffic on the highway.

Similarly, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took out a protest rally on the highway near Athwagan area of Srinagar, however, they were stopped by the contingent of police. (GNS)

PDP leaders protest against highway ban in Srinagar

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders on Sunday protested against the recently issued ban on the civilian traffic movement on Srinagar-Jammu highway, at Srinagar bypass near DPS Srinagar.

An eyewitness said that PDP leaders including Khurshid Aalam, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Waheed Para shouting anti-order and anti-governmental slogans have gathered at Srinagar Bypass, along with some supporters carrying banners demanding an end to the government order.

Pertinently, the history’s first bi-weekly highway lockdown started from wee hours of Sunday. An eyewitness said that there was no movement of civil traffic witnessed except the government forces convoy movement.

Highway ban turning into humanitarian disaster: Sajad Lone

Peoples Conference (PC) chairman Sajad Gani Lone on Sunday said that the banning of civilian movement on highway is turning into humanitarian disaster and requested the Governor SP Malik to scrap the order.

“The highway ban is now turning into a humanitarian disaster.
Flooded will calls from across the state. People in dire need to travel in order to tend to their day to day needs of survival stuck in a state of helplessness. @jandkgovernor urgently needs to scrap the inhuman order,” Sajad Lone said on twitter.

The move has drawn flak from various sections of the society.

To facilitate the movement of security convoys for the parliamentary polls starting April 11, the government has banned civilian traffic twice a week (from 4 am to 5 pm on Sunday and Wednesday) on a 270-km stretch of the highway from Udhampur in Jammu to Baramulla in Kashmir.

The order shall remain in force till May 31.
