Sajad takes dig at Omar over his Sadr-e-Riyasat- PM remark

Srinagar

Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone on Tuesday while reacting to NC vice president Omar Abdullah’s statement on getting back posts of ‘Sadr-e-Riyasat’ and ‘Wazeer-e-Azam’ said that he conveniently forgets the role of his family legacy for bringing Kashmir to the juncture it is at now.

Addressing a series of workers meetings in Kupwara, Sajad said that it would’ve been very entertaining had it not been so ironic observing Omar Abdullah’s puerile tantrums and desperate antics.

“Promising everything under the sun, betraying his desperation and lacking self- confidence, he conveniently papers over the role of his family legacy for bringing Kashmir to the juncture it is at now. While he himself may have a distorted sense of history the public memory in Kashmir remains vibrant and receptive to informed analysis and sense of accountability”, he added.

Castigating Omar Abdullah on his statement that once brought back to power he will reintroduce the designations of Prime Minister and Governor, Sajad said that “It is quite amusing thinking that it was his grandfather who sealed the deal, blocking the revision of the step. While the Congress in 1965 amended the J&K constitution to do away with the terms “Sadr-e-Riyasat” and “Wazeer-e-Azam”, the amendment however incorporated a legal provision to reverse the decision. It was Sheikh Abdullah who in 1975 as head of the state facilitated the amendment to article 368 of the Constitution of India which debarred this position from being reversed and made it a permanent feature of the state constitution. So is Omar Abdullah implying the obvious by “promising to reverse” the amendment, that indeed at the root of every major act of erosion of the special status of J&K his family has a central role”, he added further.

After 32 years AFSPA partially removed from Arunachal Pradesh

0

The controversial armed forces special powers act was removed partially after 32 years from three of nine districts of Arunachal Pradesh but would remain in force in the areas bordering Myanmar.

Arunachal Pradesh had inherited the controversial AFSPA enacted by Parliament in 1958 and applied to the entire State of Assam and the Union Territory of Manipur.

After AP, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland came into being, the Act was appropriately adapted to apply to these states as well.

According to PTI the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a notification that the four police station areas in Arunachal Pradesh, which were declared “disturbed areas” under the AFSPA, are no longer under the purview of the special law from Sunday.

The police station areas from where the AFSPA has been withdrawn are Balemu and Bhalukpong police stations in West Kameng district, Seijosa police station in East Kameng district and Balijan police station in Papumpare district. However, according to the notification, the AFSPA will continue to be enforced in Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts and areas under the jurisdiction of Namsai and Mahadevpur police stations in Namsai district, Roing in Lower Dibang Valley district and Sunpura in Lohit district for six more months till September 30.

A Home Ministry official said the “disturbed area” tag was withdrawn from the four police station areas due to the improvement of law and order situation there and it will continue in other areas in view of continuing activities of banned insurgent groups of the Northeast.

The notification said the Union Home Ministry took the decision exercising its powers conferred under section 3 of the  Armed forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958. A review of the law and order situation in Arunachal Pradesh’s six districts was undertaken before the March 31 deadline for the validity of the “disturbed area” designation under the AFSPA. In March last year, the AFSPA was removed completely from Meghalaya following improvement in security situation.

For the AFSPA to become valid, an area, however, needs to be declared disturbed either by the Central or the state government under the section 3 of the 1958 Act. Some parts of Arunachal Pradesh has the presence of banned militant outfits such as NSCN, ULFA and NDFB, another official said.

Is this kind of religious jingoism not communal? Is criticism reserved only for some? Kashmir does not belong to a religion Mr Mehdi.” She replied to Mehdi’s tweets.

In his response Mehdi said he was just responding to Ram Madhav’s attempts to divide Muslims in Kashmir, “Use of the word “Muslims” in my tweet was in response to Ram Madhavs attempt to divide Muslims in Kashmir on Shia-Sunni basis. I understand, you cannot comprehend that.” Mehdi tweeted.

“Omar Abdullah wants a separate PM for J&K & I want to walk on oceans! Omar Abdullah wants a separate PM for J&K & I want pigs to fly! More than a separate PM @OmarAbdullah needs some sleep followed by a strong coffee! If he still doesn’t understand then a green Pakistani passport,” Gautam Tweeted.

“Gautam,I never played much cricket because I knew I wasn’t very good at it. You don’t know very much about J&K, it’s history or the role of @jknc_ in shaping that history yet you insist on displaying that ignorance for all to see. Stick to stuff you know about, tweet about the IPL,” Omar tweeted.

Earlier, in a response to speech by PM Modi after a video clip of Omar was shared, Omar- who is also a National Conference vice president said; “It’s not what JKNC_ wants sir, it’s what the terms of accession guaranteed J&K, it’s what the Constitution of India (the same Constitution you take an oath to uphold) guaranteed J&K. All we ask is what the Constitution gave to J&K.”

No change to special status will review AFSPA, reduce army: Congress in election manifesto

0

New Delhi, Apr 2, : The Indian National Congress (INC) on Tuesday said that the party will appoint three new interlocutors if it was voted to power in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

“Congress promises to find such a solution through patient dialogue and talks with all stakeholders in the State. Congress promises the people of J&K talks without pre-conditions. We will appoint three interlocutors drawn from civil society to facilitate such talks,” reads the party’s election manifesto.

The INC, which released its election manifesto at its New Delhi party headquarters, said that Jammu and Kashmir and its problems deserve a large-hearted approach that will eschew muscular militarism and legalistic formulations and look for an innovative federal solution.

“We also acknowledge the unique history of the State and the unique circumstances under which the State acceded to India that led to the inclusion of Article 370 in the Constitution of India. Nothing will be done or allowed to change the Constitutional position,” read the manifesto.

It said that the party will adopt a two-pronged approach: firstly, uncompromising firmness on the border and ending infiltration; and secondly, absolute fairness in dealing with the demands of the people and winning their hearts and minds.

The Congress has also promised to reduce the presence of the Army and CAPFs in the Kashmir Valley, and entrust more responsibility to the Jammu and Kashmir police for maintaining law and order.

It said that the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act and the Disturbed Areas Act in J&K will be reviewed and suitable changes will be made in the text of the laws to balance the requirements of security and the protection of human rights.

“We are deeply concerned about the cases of discrimination and harassment of students, traders and others belonging to Jammu & Kashmir in the rest of India and we will ensure their safety and their right to study or do business,” read the manifesto.

Let secular forces join hands to defeat BJP: Tarigami

0

Kulgam, Apr 2,: Communist Party of India (Marxist) senior leader Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami Tuesday said that India is not about Modi or Amit Shah but it’s beauty lies in its democratic and secular fabric. Hitting out at BJP from left, right and centre, Tarigami said that the country’s openness to social and religious minorities and regional differences is at serious risk. “We should not believe in hollow developmental lectures of BJP. The reality is that these hollow claims and superficial love of BJP for country

hides the frightening and shrill reality of an increasingly Modi-led Hindu dominance of India,” Tarigami said and accused BJP of creating a divide and intolerance not only in India but in Jammu and Kashmir as well.

He claimed that proxies of BJP in Jammu and Kashmir were hand in glove with Modi led regime when Article 35A was challenged in the Supreme Court. “BJP election manifesto of 2014 clearly stated that they stand for the annulment of Article 370. BJP harassed people to the extent that they want the time prior to 2014 back. The muscular policy of BJP for Kashmir changed the narrative. The lawlessness, random illegal arrests, raids and rights violations reached to its acme during BJP rule in Kashmir,” Tarigami said while addressing a workers convention at Rest House Kulgam.

He said Modi’s regime effectively encouraged – a saffron-clad army of Hindu activists who created havoc across country. “It’s time for secular forces to join hands and keep BJP out of power. BJP destroyed institutions for vote politics. It spews venom against minorities and plays communal card to attract voters inimical to peace,” he said.
