Lok Sabha Polls: 10 nominations filed for Srinagar, 13 in fray

SRINAGAR, Mar 27: On the last date for filing nominations for the Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, ten nominations were filed on Tuesday.

The spokesman said that nominations submitted to the Returning Officer here were filed by Irfan Raza Ansari of J&K Peoples Conference, Abdul Rashid Ganie of  J&K National Panthers Party, Abdul Khaliq Bhat of Shiv Sena, Aga Syed Mohsin of J&K Peoples Democratic Party, Nazir Ahmad Sofi of Manavadikar National Party, Showkat Hussain Khan of Janta Dal United, Abid Hussain Ansari of J&K Peoples Conference and Abdul Rashid Banday, Bilal Sultan, Sajad Ahmad Dar, all independents.

With this, 13 nominations have been filed for the Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency. Earlier, Dr Farooq Abdullah of J&K National Conference, Sheikh Khalid Jehangir of Bharatiya Janata Party and Nazir Ahmad Lone of Rashtriya Jan Kranti Party filed their nomination papers. The scrutiny of papers will be held on March 27 and the last date of withdrawal of candidature is March 29 up to 3 PM. The polling will be held on April 18, 2019. The voting hours have been fixed from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

PDP President expels Captain Hussain, Khalid Shuja Wadana from party

Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has expelled Youth President Karnah Captain Mohammad Hussain, Khalid Shuja Wadana member district body PDP Kupwara from the basic membership of the party. 

This was disclosed the party spokesman here on Wednesday.

Baramulla, March 27 : Six days after Kalantra Kandi gunfight, two youths goes missing from the village on Wednesday.

Reports reaching said that two youths goes missing from Bandi Payeen area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday evening.

A senior Police official also confirmed and said that two youths who identified as Mohsin Manzoor Najar son of Manzoor Ahmed Najar and Suhail Ahmed Lone both residents of Bandi Payeen are missing from the area since yesterday evening. Police officer said that family in this regard has registered missing report with case FIR No. 06/2019,U/S 363/RPC at Police Station Chandoosa and further investigation has been initiated officer added.

Pertinently on 21 March two militants were killed in a gunfight and three para-troopers were injured.

Man shot dead in Shopian village

Shopian, March 27 : A man was shot dead by unknown gunmen in south Kashmir’s Shopian village on Wednesday.


Reports reaching said unknown gunmen this afternoon fired upon a man in the Kachdoora area of Shopian and injured hin critically.


The deceased was identified as Tanveer Ahmed Dar son of Mohammad Abdulla Dar resident of Bemnipora Shopian.


However the injured man was rushed to nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Meanwhile whole area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers.

JKPM to contest upcoming assembly polls: Faesal

Former IAS officer-turned politician Shah Faesal Wednesday said that his party, Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM) will contest the upcoming State assembly elections.

Addressing a press conference at party headquarters here, Faesal said JKPM is ready to contest the upcoming State assembly polls.

Pertinently, almost all regional political parties had demanded the assembly polls be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls.

The assembly polls could be held anytime after the Lok Sabha election in India.

India demonstrates anti-satellite missile capability, now a space power: PM

New Delhi, Mar 27 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday announced that India had demonstrated anti-satellite missile capability by shooting down a live satellite.

Addressing the nation, the prime minister said India’s action was not directed against any country.

Shooting down a low earth orbit satellite is a rare achievement for the country, he said.

The satellite was orbiting at an altitude of 300 km, he said, describing India as a space power.

Mission Shakti, which was led by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, was aimed at strengthening India’s overall security, he said

The prime minister had advertised his address to the nation on Twitter, calling it an important message.

“Do watch the address on television, radio or social media,” he said, setting off speculation across the country on what the topic was likely to be.

Earlier in the day, the Cabinet Committee on Security had met at the prime minister’s residence.

Don’t think about lifting ban on JKLF JeI, says BJP

Srinagar, March 27: Bhartiya Janta Party Wednesday said there was no question of lifting the ban on JKLF and Jamiat-e-Islami.

“Nobody shall dream about that ban will be lifted on them. The ban on anti-national forces will continue,” BJP National General Secretary Ram Madhav said here.


Asked that whether the Centre would ban mainstream parties he replied, “The government will think on which group or party the ban has to be imposed.

The government will ban all those groups and parties who want to separate JK with the country.”

Seven dead in airstrike on Yemen hospital : Save the Children

Aden: A hospital in a rural area of northwest Yemen was hit by an airstrike killing seven people and wounding eight others, Save the Children said.

The international aid organisation, which supports the hospital, said in a statement that four of those killed on Tuesday morning were children and two adults are unaccounted for.

The NGO, Save The Children said that a missile struck a petrol station near the entrance to Ritaf rural hospital, about 100 kilometres from the city of Saada, reported BBC.

“The missile was said to have landed within 50 metres of the facility’s main building,” it said.

According to the organisation, the hospital had been open for half an hour and many patients and staff were arriving on a busy morning.

Among the dead were a health worker and the worker’s two children and a security guard, it said.

A further eight people were wounded in the attack, which is believed to have been carried out by the Saudi-led coalition fighting Houthi rebels in the country. The coalition has almost complete control of Yemeni airspace.

Save the Children has condemned both sides in the war for their conduct, in particular highlighting the effects on hospitals.

The NGO, which says 37 children a month have been killed or injured by foreign bombs in the last year, has demanded an urgent investigation into this latest missile strike. (UNI)

On sick leave: Abhinandan chose Srinagar over Chennai

Srinagar, Mar 27: Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, chose to go back to his squadron in Srinagar during his four-week sick leave, instead of spending time at his Chennai family home, reported the ANI.


After his debriefing and treatment at the Research and Referral Hospital got over a few days ago, the officer was advised to go on a four-week sick leave by his doctors.


“During his sick leave, the officer had the option of going to his family home in Chennai where his parents live but he decided to go back to Srinagar where his squadron is deployed for operations,” sources in Air Force told ANI.


“At the moment, the officer has decided to stay with his men and machines in Srinagar and would be required to come back to New Delhi for a review medical board which will decide on his fitness for flying fighter planes,” sources told the news agency.
