Burhan Wani not a terrorist but victim of NC’s despotic rule: PDP to Farooq Abdullah

0

Tral, Mar 13 : Senior leader of People’s Democratic Party and former MLA Tral, Mushtaq Ahmed Shah said lambasted National Conference President Farooq Abdullah for calling Burhan Wani a terrorist.

“Calling Burhan Wani a terrorist is spiteful and insulting to say the very least. Farooq Abdullah’s statement has once again unveiled the real ideology of NC and proved itself a party of shameless killers”, Shah said in a statement.

Shah added that Farooq Abdullah should know that it was his son Omar Abdullah’s government that forced Burhan Wani to take up gun after being humiliated and tortured along with his brother by forces under Omar’s watch.

Farooq Abdullah should realize that it was sheer magnitude of despotism that forced entire generation to take up arms against deceit and disempowerment perpetrated by NC.

Youth of Kashmir have rendered countless sacrifices to seek political solution to Kashmir problem and yet Farooq Abdullah calling entire generation as terrorists is shameless and brazen attempt to please his friends in Delhi.

“From pledging to lay foundation stone of Ram mandir at ayodhya to calling Burhan a terrorist, Farooq Abdullah would go to any extent to please his masters in delhi for his lust of power”, shah added.

“Institution of sacrifices in Kashmir is sacred and Abdullah should at least leave it out of his petty politics”. Shah said.

Overcrowding of prisoners at District Jail Anantnag must be looked into: Tarigami

0

Srinagar, Mar 13 : CPI (M) leader and former MLA Kulgam, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami Wednesday said the Governor’s Administration must look into the glaring situation of overcrowding of prisoners at District Jail (Mattan) Anantnag at the earliest.

Tarigami said, there are reportedly around 200 inmates in the said jail while the intake capacity is just 65.
He said the overcrowding of prisons in Jammu and Kashmir is a long-standing problem that has seldom been addressed effectively. “The inmates at District Jail Anantnag are without basic amenities and biggest problem for them is the lack of medical facilities. There are complaints of overcrowding, delay in trial, neglect of health and other issues in the jail,” he added.

There is no doctor who can attend these prisoners. There may be no post of a doctor in the jail, but on interim basis a doctor from District Hospital Anantnag can be deputed, who can regularly attend the prisoners.
Also, relatives of number of these detainees have time-and-again approached me for their release and have also given assurances that they will live a peaceful life if they are released. It would be appropriate if the cases of these prisoners are reviewed and those who are not involved in heinous crimes are released, he said.

“There is Supreme Court direction that the Under Trial Review Committee should specifically look into aspects pertaining to effective implementation of Section 436 CrPC and Section 436-A CrPC so that under trial prisoners are released at the earliest and those who cannot furnish bail bonds due to their poverty are not subjected to incarceration only for that reason,” he added.

He said that a letter in this regard has already been submitted to the Advisor to Governor Vijay Kumar on 10-03-2019.

Hurriyat (M) extends solidarity with Mirwaiz on current crises

0

Srinagar, Mar 13 : Hurriyat Conference (M) Wednesday held an emergency meeting at party Hqtrs Rajbagh Srinagar. The meeting was chaired by former APHC Chairman and Executive Member Prof. Abdul Gani Bhat while as senior leaders including Bilal Gani Lone, Moulana Masroor Abbas, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War, Ghulam Nabi Zaki, Muhammad Shafi Khan, Abdul Majeed Wani, Sufi Mushtaq Ahmad, Jaffar Kashmiri, Adv Abdul Majeed Banday and other representatives of other constituent parties were also present.

The meeting discussed the present political scenario, in special reference to the summoning of APHC Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to Delhi by the NIA. Soon after the meeting Prof Abdul Gani Bhat and Bilal Gani Lone addressed a crowded press conference:

Following is the text of the statement read over in the presser:
APHC was launched as far back as June 1993 as the symbol of Political Unity in Kashmir with a view to preserving the idea through thick and thin. Mirwaiz Mohammad Umar Farooq a young boy had the honor to be its first Chairman in recognition of his Politico-Religious background. He represents an Office which is so sacred that interference in any form or at any level with his position is extremely likely to inflict a wound deep into the collective political consciousness of Kashmir.

There is no gainsaying the fact that the conglomerate has passed through thick as well as thin. However what is striking about is, it preserves the beauty of unity of purpose at all costs. We are determined to preserve it in future as well. Let there may no mistake about it that APHC as a forum is democratic in essence and does not, therefore, believe in violence in any form or manifestation let alone so called “terror-funding?”. It may not be out of place to mention here that the Chairman himself is the victim of violence.

As a matter of fact, the forum has all along been actively supporting efforts aimed at building abiding relations between India and Pakistan which is where our position to resolve the dispute through talks needs to be appreciated. We did actually do the talking with the leadership in governments across the sub-continent with a view to working out an acceptable and just solution of dispute on Kashmir. In-fact we were the ones who led the dialogue in 2004 and 2005 despite tremendous backlash and sacrifice. In June 2004 Mirwaiz Saheb’s uncle was killed and his house was bombed, Islamia School burnt yet he did not give up and continued talking to Manmohan Singh Ji. That speaks volumes of his commitment to peaceful resolution. To accuse him of having anything to do with so called “terror funding “is ridiculous, nothing more but political vendetta.

APHC considers in the interests of all that now is the time that we consider bigger issues rather than involve in nerve breaking tactics. Remember, now is different. We will have to rise above and take the lead ourselves. However, APHC appreciates that United States of America, The People’s Republic of China, Kingdom of Saudi-Arabia, Russia and Great-Britten for their efforts towards ensuring that the situation doesn’t go out of hand.
India and Pakistan as nuclear powers can hardly exhibit laxity towards tomorrow. We have to live together and live peacefully to ensure prosperity and development. What constitutes an obstacle will have to be addressed. Talks are the call of times. Let’s take the call and move ahead towards a brighter future and a better region. We can hardly afford to live with tension, acrimony and ill-will.

Mirwaiz Mohammad Umar Farooq the Chairman of APHC who also heads Social and Educational Institutions Auqaf Jamia Masjid, Anjuman Nusratul Islam, Darul Khair all completely accounted for institutions, audited each year. People give donation to these organisations. During floods of 2014 in just 15 days through Mirwaiz Saheb mobilisation, more than 1Cr was raised through Darul Khair.

Mirwaiz our Chairman has made it absolutely clear that he is willing to cooperate with any investigation but what is upsetting is that a hostile environment is being willfully generated to cause harassment.

Result oriented dialogue not muscular approach to bring peace in Kashmir: Mehbooba

0

Srinagar, Mar 13 : Former Chief Minister and President Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti reiterated that result oriented dialogue with all stakeholders is the only way to make peace in restive Jammu and Kashmir permanent.

According to the PDP spokesman, Mehbooba on Wednesday addressed Bandipora workers’ convention in which she asked the party functionaries to work with greater coordination and strengthen the party on the ground.

She stated the PDP has always been a staunch advocate of political process for the resolution of Kashmir and has been asking the Government of India to hold meaningful dialogue with Hurriyat, Pakistan and with other stakeholders. “This muscular approach and political patch work will not take us anywhere as this has been tried for many decades and hasn’t yielded any positive outcome. It is unfortunate that some people still believe in the efficacy of these methods and are trying to repeat the old mistakes which will be meaningless and will prove counter productive,” Mehbooba said.

She further stated that people are well aware of the policies of the PDP and how the party has always preferred its principles over power and didn’t allow BJP to take any inroads on the constitutional position of the state.
She added that the state of Jammu and Kashmir as part of the Republic secured its unique position and same cannot in any way be contested in any court of law. She said that Article 35-A is a matter of life and death for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and that no one has the authority to challenge the very identity of people of the state in any court across the world.

Those present who spoke on the occasion includeGeneral Secretary Abdul Haq Khan, Nizam udin Bhat and party’s nominated candidate for looking Sabha for North Kashmir’s Lok Sabha constituency Abdul Qayoom Wani.

No pre-poll alliance on Lok Sabha elections yet, talks on with congress: Farooq Abdullah

0

Srinagar, Mar 13 : With the reports that the National conference and congress has agreed to field joint candidates on few Lok Sabha seats in the coming elections, the National Conference (NC) President Farooq Abdullah Wednesday though admitted that talks were on with the congress, but ruled out any prepoll alliance yet.

In a brief chat with this correspondent Farooq Abdullah said: “No alliance has taken place yet. Once any such development will happen, we will let you know,”
However, NC president admitted that the talks between the Congress and National Conference regarding a pre-poll alliance in the state were going on.

Sources said that the National conference parliamentary board meeting, is going to take place within two to three days under the leadership of Dr Farooq Abdullhah. “The meeting is crucial in the nature of deciding any alliance for the Lok Sabha elections. The board will also decide the candidates for the Lok Sabha elections,” one of the senior leaders of National conference on condition of anonymity said.

Meanwhile if reports are to be believed then both parties National conference and congress were expected to contest three seats each. However, reports said the NC is keen on contesting a seat from the Jammu region this time. “The NC wants to join the fray from the Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha constituency. It wants to leave the Udhampur-Doda seat for the Congress,” said a source.

There are six Lok Sabha seats in the state, three Baramulla, Srinagar and Anantnag in Kashmir, two Jammu-Poonch and Udhampur-Doda in Jammu, and one in Ladakh. The NC had already announced its decision to contest from Baramulla and Jammu-Poonch, without consulting the Congress whereas NC president Farooq Abdullah, who is the sitting Srinagar MP, will be contesting from the same constituency.

The Congress may get the chance to contest from Anantnag, Udhampur and Ladakh seats, but a few party leaders are not happy in giving the Jammu-Poonch seat to the NC as it had won it in 2004 and 2009 elections.

Six seats of J&K will be going to the polls in first five phases, from April 11 to May 6. The Jammu-Poonch and Baramulla seats will see voting on April 11 followed by Udhampur-Doda and Srinagar seats in second phase on April 18. The Anantnag seat will be going to the polls in three phases, April 23, 29 and May 6 whereas the Ladakh seat will see voting on May 6.
