Ganderbal, June 22: Thousands of devotees from across Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country gathered at the revered Mata Kheer Bhawani shrine in Tulmulla village of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday as the annual Kheer Bhawani Mela commenced with religious fervour.
The shrine, dedicated to Goddess Ragnya Devi and regarded as one of the holiest places of worship for the Kashmiri Pandit community, witnessed a massive influx of pilgrims since early morning. Devotees offered prayers, performed rituals and sought blessings on the occasion of Jyeshtha Ashtami, the principal day of the annual festival.
A large number of Kashmiri Pandits, including members of the migrant community, arrived at Tulmulla in buses and private vehicles after travelling from Jammu and other regions to participate in the annual congregation. Officials said elaborate arrangements had been put in place to facilitate the smooth conduct of the mela.
Security was tightened around the shrine and along the pilgrimage routes, with personnel from various security agencies deployed to ensure the safety of devotees. Senior officers monitored security, traffic and logistical arrangements throughout the event.
Besides Tulmulla, religious observances were also held at other Ragnya Bhagwati shrines across Kashmir, including Tikker in Kupwara, Devsar-Manzgam in Kulgam and Logripora in Anantnag.
The annual Kheer Bhawani Mela remains one of the most significant religious events for Kashmiri Hindus, symbolising faith, cultural heritage and the enduring connection of the community with the Valley.
