Man held with grenades at Army recruitment rally

Srinagar, March 11 : A man was held with hand grenades at an army recruitment rally in Surankote on Monday, days after a grenade blast at a bus stand here. killed two people and injured several others.

Around 10: 40 am, Rajinder Singh son of Krishnan Singh resident of Kala Kote was arrested by joint team of police and 156 Army TA at the Army town gate, a police spokesman said.

He said one C-90 grenade, one UBGL grenade and detonators were recovered from the man.

The arrested person has been handed over to police station Surankote. ” A case was registered and further investigations taken up”. (GNS)

Militant recruitment has significantly dropped in Kashmir in last 3 months: IGP Pani

Srinagar: The army on Monday said that 18 militants have been killed in last last 21 days in separate encounters across Jammu and Kashmir.

Corps Commander of Srinagar-based Chinar Corps, KJS Dhillon said that out of the 18, 14 were recruits of proscribed militant outfit Jasih-e-Muhammad ad six out of those 14 were main commanders.

He said that Jaish’s 2nd commander Mudasir Khan, who was killed in a gunfight last night in Pinglish village of Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama was conspirator in highway convoy attack.

Gen Dhillon said that post Pulwama militant attack that left over 40 CRPF personnel dead, the main emphasis was on JeM so that they don’t carry out further such attacks.

On Budgam crash, the GoC said that the investigations are going on about the probable causes of downing of the helicopter that left six IAF personnel and a civilian dead.

The GoC was addressing a press conference along with Inspector General of Police Kashmir Range, SP Pani at Badami Bagh Cantonment.

Pani said that the recruitment of militants has significantly dropped in last three months.

Amid rains forces launch search operation in Pattan village

Pattan, March 11 : Amid rains, forces launched a cordon and search in north Kashmir’s Palhallan village on Monday evening.

Reports reaching Kashmir Despatch said amid incresent weather conditions forces jointly by Army’s 29 RR, SOG and CRPF conducted house to house search operation at Mukhdam Mohalla area of Palhallan in north Kashmir’s Pattan this evening.

Official sources told Kashmir Despatch following inputs about presence of some militants in the area operation was launched.

Searches in the area was on when last reports came in.

Training on EVM, VVPAT imparted to Representatives of Political Parties in Kupwara, DEO holds Interactive Meet

Kupwara, March, 11: A training programme regarding Electronic Voter Machine (EVM) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) was imparted to Representatives of Political Parties in Mini meeting hall of DC office complex Kupwara. The programme was conducted under the supervision of District Election Officer Kupwara Anshul Garg (IAS).

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Farooq Ahmad Baba, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Bashir Ahmad Bhat, District Information Officer Kashif Altaf Bhat, District Nodal Officer SVEEP, Election Naib Tehsildar, Master trainers from election cell, Representatives of all National and Regional parties and other concerned officers were present on the occasion.

During the training, District level Master trainer G M Dar informed the Representatives of Political Parties (Trainees) about functioning and operation of EVMs and VVPAT machines. The trainer explained the functioning of Ballot Unit, Control Unit and other allied functions and operations of the electronic voting machines, which shall be used during upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Later, District Election Officer Kupwara held an interactive session with representatives of political parties of the district and discussed various matters/issues related to upcoming elections.

On the occasion DEO said that with the Election Commission of India’s announcement of the complete schedule for Lok Sabha Elections 2019, the Model Code of Conduct came into force on Sunday evening. He sought cooperation and coordination from political parties for smooth conduct of elections in the district.

While it the Representatives of the Political Parties along with officials of election cell visited Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) Strongroom and Election Call Centre established at DC Office, they showed satisfaction on overall process of election by District Administration Kupwara.

Shooting stone hits 22-year-old shopkeeper in Poonch, dies

Poonch, March 11: A 22-year-old shopkeeper was killed after hit by a shooting stone amid heavy rainfall in Gursai area of Mendhar in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.

Reports reaching GNS said that the shopkeeper Umar Farooq (22) son of Noor Hussain of Sanjoite, Gursaie was hit by the shooting stone when he was busy to drain out the water in front of his shop amid heavy rainfall at Gali Sanjoite.

In the incident, Umar died on the spot, they said.

SDPO, Mendhar Neeraj Padyar said that they have also received information regarding the shopkeepers death.

“A police party has been sent to the area to ascertain the actual details,” SDPO said. (GNS)

Three persons including driver Injured as car fell down into Nallah in Rafiabad

Rafiabad, March 11 : Three persons including a driver on Monday sustained injuries after the car in which they were traveling in met with an accident in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Reports reaching said a four wheeler private car (Maruti Swift) bearing registration number JK05 D 3773 was on its way to Baramulla from Ladoora when the driver of the Vehicle lost Control on his speed and fell down into Nallah due to slippery condition of road caused by fresh rains.

In the mishap two persons including driver of the car were injured critically and were rushed to District Hospital Baramulla for advance treatment.

Meanwhile police has taken cognizance of this road accident.

Tral parts shuts to mourn militants killing

Sopore : A complete shutdown is being observed in parts of Tral to mourn the death of militants.

Two JeM militants who were killed in a gunfight with government forces at Pinglish area of South Kashmir’s Tral on Sunday.

All the shops and business establishments are closed while public transport is also thin on roads in Tral parts on Monday.

Authorities later identified one among slain as Mudasir Ahmed of Midoora while another is yet to be identified.

LOC trade likely to remain suspended for 15 days from Uri

Srinagar, Mar 11 : The cross LOC Trade from Uri is likely to be suspended for atleast fifteen days owing to repairment of Kaman Post Bridge.

News agency posted that Army Engineer’s have discovered some damages in the bridge during its inspection on 8th of March and have recommend undertaking repairment works immediately.

Sources in the establishment told news agency that a letter was shot to Trade Facilitation Office Chakoti informing him about the inspection and the proposed action thereof.

The Salamabad bases Custodian LOC trade is understood to have proposed suspension of trade for 10_15 days for undertaking the repair works immediately. (RNA)

DNA test to identify slain militants as bodies ‘beyond recognition’

Srinagar, March 11 : Police has said that they will identify with the help of DNA test two Jaish-e-Mohammad militants who were killed in a gunfight at Pinglish Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday as their bodies are beyond recognition.

To identify the duo, two families have been summoned today so that DNA samples will be taken, a police official told GNS.

Sources said charred body parts were recovered from the encounter site as the house where the encounter broke out was gutted due to fire.

Meanwhile, army spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia in a statement said that three militants have been killed in the encounter. He said that the operation is in progress.

A police spokesman said that so far only two bodies have been recovered from the gunfight site and their identities are being ascertained.

‘The bodies were taken to concerned police station Tral for further medicos legal formalities, sources said.

The officer said that the DNA examination will be conducted today to identify the slain. (GNS)

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq not to appear in person before NIA

Srinagar: Chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is not going to appear in person before the National Investigation Agency in New Delhi on Monday.

Mirwaiz would, however, submit a written statement to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in response to the summons which had asked him to report at the NIA headquarters in Delhi on Monday for questioning in connection with a case relating to the alleged funding to terrorist and separatist groups in the state.

In its summons to Mirwaiz on Saturday, the NIA had asked him to “report” for “examination” on March 11 at 10.30 am at its New Delhi headquarters. However, the Hurriyat in its meeting on Sunday decided that the senior separatist leader would not travel to Delhi for deposing before the probe agency.

“It has been decided that Mirwaiz saheb would not appear in person at New Delhi. Instead, a written statement would be submitted to the agency,” Syed-ur-Rehman Shams, Mirwaiz’s secretary, said, adding that a “proper response” was being formulated by the amalgam in this regard.

The NIA has also issued summons to Syed Naseem Geelani, Syed Ali Geelani’s son, for questioning at its New Delhi office on March 11.

Meanwhile, a shutdown was observed in downtown Srinagar on Sunday to protest the NIA summons to Mirwaiz. The strike call was given by the Srinagar-based Traders’ Coordination Committee, which termed the summons to Mirwaiz a “direct attack on religion”.
