Srinagar, June 21: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has revoked the suspension of Prof. Aijaz Ahmad Hakak, former principal of Amar Singh College, Srinagar, following the completion of an official inquiry, and has posted him as the new principal of Islamia College of Science and Commerce, Srinagar.
According to Government Order No. 182-JK(HE) of 2026, issued by the Higher Education Department on June 20, the decision was taken after the competent authority accepted the findings and recommendations of the inquiry report submitted by the designated Inquiry Officer.
Prof. Hakak had been placed under suspension on May 7, 2026, and attached to the Higher Education Department pending an investigation into an incident at Amar Singh College. Dr. Subash Chander, JKAS, Special Secretary in the Higher Education Department, was appointed as the Inquiry Officer to examine the matter. The inquiry report was submitted to the government on May 22.
Following the acceptance of the report, the government ordered Prof. Hakak’s reinstatement with immediate effect and assigned him charge as principal of the Islamia College of Science and Commerce.
As part of the administrative reshuffle, Prof. Tehmina Yousuf has been transferred and posted as principal of Amar Singh College. She has also been given the additional charge of Director, Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Srinagar, in addition to her existing responsibilities.
The government order stated that a separate decision regarding the period of Prof. Hakak’s suspension will be taken subsequently.
