Joint Resistance Leadership termed the NIA summons to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Syed Ali Geelani’s son Syed Naseem Geelani and asking them to present themselves before NIA court in New Delhi on Monday, as sheer political vendetta deserving strongest condemnation.

The Leadership said that NIA raids on the residences of leaders and their relatives followed by summoning them to New Delhi is a fresh attempt to build pressure on the pro-resolution leadership to push them into submission so that they stop pursing the resolution of the Kashmir issue.

The leadership said that in past NIA and other agencies of GoI conducted raids on the residences of pro-resolve leaders including women leaders and later arrested many of who continue to languish in New Delhi’s Tihar jail in past almost two years without trial. The leadership said that they have time and again made it clear that they won’t come under any pressure and face the fresh onslaught of Delhi in the form of NIA and ED raids and summons with full resilience but continue to pursue the cause of truth and justice, for which lacs of Kashmiri people have offered tremendous sacrifices and continue to so. The leadership said that they have always advocated for a peaceful resolution of the issue and have nothing to do with so-called “terror funding”. These fake charges and the propaganda around it are being pursued electoral gains by those at the helm.

JRL said that Seeking right to self-determination for Jammu & Kashmir is no crime for which the leadership is being persecuted.

The leadership strongly denounced the arrest spree, ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, slapping of PSA on JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik and many others, harassing and intimidating the youth and elderly, vandalizing properties, injuring the youth in peaceful protests, imposing curbs and restrictions in down town, worst form of human rights violations being committed by the forces and clarified that these repressive measures were tested in the past as well but failed to yield any result and that the only way to ensure peace in the region is to resolve the Kashmir issue as per its historic perspective according to the wishes of people.

The leadership hailed the support extended by the traders, transporters and other segments of the society towards leadership and thanked them and asked that normal life should be resumed on March 11. Any program will be communicated to people in the future.

Srinagar: Former Chief Minister and President Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti has strongly opposed the decision taken by the Election Commission of India of not holding Assembly and parliament elections simultaneously in Jammu and Kashmir.

She said that delaying the conduction of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir is tantamount to denying basic rights of the people of the state to have a popular government.

“It is very dangerous to keep the state in the hands of unelected representatives of the centre. It will further complicate the problems in the state and the decision taken by Election Commission needs an immediate review,” Mehbooba said in a statement.

The PDP President added that this was not expected of the Election Commission of India and the decision to hold Lok Sabha polls and at the same time delay assembly elections doesn’t make any sense.

“It sows the seeds suspicion among the people about the designs of government of India and doesn’t convey a good message to the people of Jammu and Kashmir about an independent institution like the Election Commission,” said Mehbooba.

She added that ECI’s decisions goes contrary to what the Home Minister has repeatedly said that GOI is ready to hold simultaneous elections in Jammu and Kahmsir. This change in the schedule makes the entire process highly suspicious, PDP president added.

2019 General Elections proving bad for democracy in Kashmir: PDP

0

Srinagar, Mar 10: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday slammed the government over summoning Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to New Delhi by NIA, stating that tactics are aimed at hurting the sentiments of lakhs on Muslims of the state.

In a statement issued here, MLC and PDP’s Srinagar District President Mohammad Khurshid Alam questioned the NIA’s move of summoning Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to Delhi and said that the BJP is trying to use Kashmir as a launching pad for 2019 elections.  “It is unfortunate that the national elections are turning bad for real democracy in Kashmir with nocturnal raids, bundling people in jails, banning religious outfits, sealing mosques becoming order of the day. Such undemocratic measures will have grave consequences and those at the helm in New Delhi understand that they are playing with fire in Kashmir,” Alam said.

The PDP leader termed summoning of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq as deeply hurting, agonising and reflection of a dreadful vendetta against the people of Kashmir. “If the government thinks that it can browbeat the people of Kashmir by such mindless, disrespectful and blasphemous tactics, it should know that people of Kashmir will fervently oppose such ploys.  The authorities must respect the religious sentiments of people and not coerce the Muslims of Kashmir to take extreme measures,” Alam  said.
