Revenue official mauled by stray dog, critical

Poonch, March 7 : A Revenue Department official is critical after he was mauled by a stray dog here on Thursday.

Mohammad Farooq son of Mohammad Rafiq resident of Gursai, Mendhar, was attacked by a stray dog on the premises of Harni Tehsil Complex .

He was shifted to Sub District Hospital Mendhar for treatment, where doctors referred him to District Hospital Rajouri.

“He is in a critical condition,” Block Medical Officer Mendhar Dr Parvaiz Khan told.

4-year-old girl raped in Uttarakhand

Dehradun, March 7:  A four-year-old girl was raped by a juvenile relative in Uttarakhand’s Tehri district, police said on Thursday.

The assault on Wednesday left the child bleeding and the family members rushed her to the Doon Hospital in Dehradun without informing the police.

Doctors refused to admit her claiming no FIR had been registered.

Senior police officials who rushed to the hospital asked the doctors to provide immediate treatment to the child.

The victim was discharged after treatment, said Director General of Police Ashok Kumar. Her condition is out of danger, he said.

Kumar said he had sought a report on whether doctors indeed refused to admit the child. “If they did that, strong action will be taken against them,” he said. (IANS)

Assaulted Kashmiri Men Thank Lucknow Locals Who Came To Rescue

LUCKNOW: Amid anger over the attack of two dry fruit sellers from Kashmir in Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow, it is the residents of the city that the men are most thankful to.

The two, dry fruit sellers from Kashmir who were beaten with sticks and threatened by a group of men from a fringe right-wing group in Lucknow on Wednesday, were rescued by a few local residents of the city. Four of the attackers have been arrested after videos of the attack were widely shared.

They (attackers) said we are terrorists. We were told that we sell items here and throw stones there. They started thrashing us. They asked for our Aadhaar cards. We showed it to them,” Mohammed Afzal Naik said, describing the traumatic moments before the media and the police.

Speaking about the passers-by, Mr Naik said, “They’re good. Those people saved us. They told the men that it is upto the police to speak to us. They had reached before the police.”

“This is a , very unfortunate and one off incident which has happened. We will crack down on such incidents with the entire force of the law. Nobody is above the law and nobody can target innocent citizens like this… The strongest possible action will be taken to target innocent Kashmiris,” senior police officer Anand Kumar told NDTV.

Jammu and Kashmir politicians Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti as well as the Congress, the Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party and Asaduddin Owaisi have condemned the brutality. “Nothing will do more damage to the idea of India in Jammu and Kashmir than videos like these,” Mr Abdullah said in a series of tweets along with the video post.

The incident in Lucknow comes amid the nationwide backlash on people from the Kashmir Valley following the February 14 terror attack in Pulwama.

Wednesday’s attackers are members of the Vishwa Hindu Dal, a right-wing fringe group. Among them is Himanshu Awasthi, who claims to be the president of the group. He had bragged about the attack on Facebook, claiming he and his men had carried it out. The video of the attack that he shared on Facebook has been taken down.

Bajrang Sonkar, one of the men arrested, has more than a dozen criminal cases including that of murder, loot, theft and arms act pending against him.

Since the February 14 terror attack, there have been several reports of people from Kashmir being targeted and harassed in various parts of the country. The alleged harassment had promoted the central government to issue an advisory to the states to ensure their safety.

PDP condemns grenade attack in Jammu

Jammu, Mar 7:  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday strongly condemned the grenade attack in Jammu bus stand, terming such incidents highly unfortunate and unacceptable. 

In a statement issued here, PDP leaders  in a joint statement said that the incident has reflected the ruthless face of terrorism and how innocent citizens are being targeted by the nefarious miscreants and ruthless savages without any fault. 

The party leaders also pitched for the stern action against those involved in such cowardly act, asking the state dispensation to ensure protection of civilian population isn’t compromised at any level.

The PDP leaders also prayed for the speedy recovery of those who were injured in the attack.

NC team visits Jammu Bus Stand; Rana condemns grenade attack

JAMMU MARCH 07- National Conference on Thursday condemned the grenade throwing incident at Jammu Bus Stand causing injuries to a number of innocent people.

          “We pray for early recovery of the injured in the grenade attack”, Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana said, adding that such cowardice acts were a challenge to civilized society, which are needed to be fought unitedly.

          Mr Rana, along with former minister Mr Surjeet Singh Slathia, State Secretary Mr Rattan Lal Gupta, former MLC Mr Trilochan Singh Wazir and Provincial Secretary Mr Pradeep Bali visited the Bus Stand and interacted with the people. They expressed solidarity with the injured and their families.

Jama’at-e-Islami head office sealed in Srinagar

Srinagar: Authorities on Thursday sealed the Jama’at-e-Islami headquarters at Batamaloo in Srinagar.

The headquarters were sealed almost a week after the Home Ministry of India declared Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir an ‘unlawfull organisation’.

Reports said a large contingent of forces arrived at headquarters and entered JEI’s office and sealed it.

Jama’at was banned by the government of India for allegedly supporting militancy, separatists, and to carve out an Islamic state out of Government established by law.

More than 200 activists of JeI have been arrested so far including its top leadership.

Director Education Kashmir instructs teachers to report for duties on 09 March

Pertainally all schools, colleges to reopen in Kashmir valley on 11 March 2019 after winter vacations.

Jammu Blast: 17-year old non local succumbs, injured toll mounts to 29

Jammu, March 7 : A 17-year old non local who was injured critically in a grenade explosion today in bus stand Jammu, succumbed to injuries.

Inspector General of Police Jammu Division M K Sinha said that the person Mohd Shariq son of Intijar of Toda, Kalyanpur Ahatmal,Hardiwar in Uttarakhand succumbed to injuries in Government Medical College Jammu.

Further a total of 29 persons reported sustained splinter injuries and are undergoing treatment in GMC hospital, IGP said.

He said that among injured the condition of four more persons is said to be serious.

Earlier IGP said that some suspected persons lobbed a grenade on bus stand Jammu.

They said that soon after the blast a large contingent of government forces reached to the spot and launched a hunt to nab the attackers.

Meanwhile, official sources said that ten persons were detained by police Jammu for questioning in connection with the grenade blast. (GNS)

Four held for assault on Kashmiri dry fruit sellers in Lucknow

Police Thursday arrested four persons for assaulting two  Kashmiri dry fruits sellers in Daliganj locality of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. 

The incident took place Wednesday evening amid the nationwide backlash on Kashmiris following the February 14 attack in Pulwama.

“The Kashmiri youths were selling dry fruits on Daliganj bridge and a group of men beat them up, terming them as stone pelters,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kalanidhi Naithani told reporters here Thursday.

He said after an “alert citizen” made the video, the matter came to light after which police teams swung into action and arrested the main accused, Bajrang Sonkar, who has more than a dozen criminal cases including that of murder, loot, theft and arms act pending against him.

On his tip off, three others — Himanshu Garg, Aniruddh and Amar Kumar — were also arrested on Thursday, the SSP said.

About the victims, he said they were Abdul and Afzal of Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir, who come here during winters to sell dry fruits.

Naithani said police wanted to give a stern message that such acts would not be tolerated and those involved will be brought to book.

The victims were attacked with sticks by saffron-clad men, the video of which has gone viral. The locals, however, rushed to their rescue and informed the police.

An FIR was lodged in this connection at Hasangaj police station under various sections of the IPC, including 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 307 (attempt to murder), and Criminal Law Amendment Act. Sonkar claims to be the president of the Vishwa Hindu Dal.

Incidents of harassment of Kashmiris, especially students and traders, have been reported from various parts of the country after the Pulwama attack on February 14.

The two Kashmiris, who were beaten up, later told mediapersons that they were satisfied with the police action, which they termed as prompt.
