Lethpora Attack:Police Version

February 14: Police in Police District Awantipora today attended a gruesome terror crime spot at Ladhu Mode Lethpora at about 1515 hours following an explosion by terrorists targeting a security forces’ convoy travelling from Jammu to Srinagar. One vehicle which was part of the convoy carrying CRPF Personnel bore the brunt of the blast resulting in multiple casualties. Exact number of casualties is being ascertained, sofar 33 fatal causalities have been confirmed. Injured have been shifted to hospitals for medical treatment.

Police has registered a case in the matter. Officers investigating this terror crime are at work to establish the full circumstances which led to the blast.

We condemn this gruesome terror attack and stand by the families of martyred and injured jawans at this critical juncture.

Citizens are requested to stay away from the blast site as the blast site needs to be preserved properly for investigators to examine. Your cooperation will be much appreciated in this regard.

Shopian youth dies

SRINAGAR, Feb 14: A youth from Shopian was found dead in a hotel here.
He is said to have died due to suffocation. The youth has been
identified as Saqib Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Rashir Mir resident of
Shopian. He died due to suffocation at Hotel Chink Park in Handwara.
As the news reached his home town, a pall of gloom descended over the
entire area. People from all walks of life visited the residence of
the deceased youth and expressed their solidarity

44 CRPF men killed in the deadliest attack on force in J&K

Srinagar, Feb 14 : In the deadliest attack on forces in Jammu and Kashmir, forty-four paramilitary CRPF men were killed in a car bombing Lethpora area along the Srinagar-Jammu highway in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday afternoon. 

An official of the CRPF told GNS that a “suicide car bomber” rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the bus near Lethpora at around 03:15 pm, resulting into an intensive blast in which 44 paramilitary personnel were killed.

“A total of 44 CRPF men belonging to different battalions were travelling in the vehicle when the blast occurred,” the CRPF official said. He said that the CRPF men belonged to 92, 17 and 54 battalions. JeM militant outfit identified the bomber as Adil Ahmad Dar alias Waqas Commando.

Following the blast, the traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu highway came to standstill and when the report last came in the road was still closed. Soon after the blast, government forces launched the searches in the entire area.

A police officer said forensic experts of have taken samples even as investigations have been set into motion. The officer also confirmed that today’s attack was the deadliest in the attack.  “Even though there were major attacks in the past also like Badamibagh and assembly but this is the first attack in which there have been such a number of causalities,” the officer said. 

Regarding the vehicle, the officer said that it seems to be a scorpio or jeep. “Investigations are underway in this regard,” the officer said.

IGP Kashmir SP Pani said that it was a gruesome militant attack. “The investigations have been taken up. We have started gathering the sequences how this happened and the people behind it will be brought before the law,” the IGP said, adding, “We are ascertaining chain of circumstances in this incident.”  (GNS)

Governor, Rahul, Mamta, Omar, Mehbooba condemn attack

JAMMU, Feb 14: Governor Satya Pal Malik has strongly condemned the
terrorist attack on a CRPF convoy at Pulwama in which many CRPF
personnel lost their lives.  He has conveyed his grief and sincere
sympathy to the families of the brave soldiers who had lost their
lives in this attack and prayed for early recovery of all those
injured in this gruesome attack.
Expressing serious concern about the terrorist attack on security
forces Governor observed that the Forces responsible for insurgency in
J&K are desperate and frustrated and they just want to prove their
presence. Visibly it seems to be guided from across the Border as
Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed the responsibility.  He said that such
actions will not deter the resolve of our Security Forces and people,
and we will finish these inimical forces to the last.
Governor has urged all the Security Forces Commanders to enhance
surveillance on every front and directed the District and Divisional
Civil and Police Administration to immediately review the security
management of all important installations and establishments.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday condemned the attack on
the CRPF convoy in Lethpora area of Awantipora in south Kashmir in
which at least 20 CRPF troopers were killed and over 40 injured.
Taking to social networking site Twitter, Rahul wrote: “I’m deeply
disturbed by the cowardly attack on a #CRPF convoy in J&K in which
many of our brave CRPF men have been martyred and a large number
wounded, some critically. My condolences to the families of our
martyrs. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also expressed her
condolences to the families of the CRPF men who were killed. “Saddened
that 13 CRPF jawans became martyrs today in Pulwama. We salute our
brave jawans and extend our solidarity and condolences to their
families. Our prayers for those injured. We wish them a speedy
recovery,” she tweeted.
Reacting to a blast at Lethpora in which twelve CRPF troopers were
killed and many others sustained injuries, former chief minister of
Jammu and Kashmir and NC vice president Omar Abdullah condemned the
attack and expressed his condolences.
“Terrible news coming from the valley. A number of CRPF soldiers are
reported to have been killed & injured in an IED blast. I condemn this
attack in the strongest possible terms. My prayers for the injured &
condolences to the families of the bereaved. #Kashmir,” Omar tweeted.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday has
strongly condemned the attack on  CRPF convoy in Lethpora area of
Awantipora in south Kashmir in which at least twelve troopers were
killed and several others were injured.
Taking to social networking site Twitter Mehbooba wrote: “ Disturbing
news coming in from #awantipura . Twelve of our security personnel
have been martyred and several have been injured. No words are enough
to condemn the gruesome terror attack. How many  more lives will be
snuffed out before this madness ends?”

Governor congratulates SKUAST-K for securing second position in the All India JRF Examination

Jammu, Feb 14 : Governor Satya Pal Malik, Chancellor of the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology, Kashmir, has congratulated Prof. Nazeer Ahmed, Vice Chancellor of the University, his colleagues and students for securing second position in the All India Junior  Research Fellowship (JRF) Examination conducted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.

This examination in which 62 students from the University had appeared, was conducted under Animal Sciences and Fisheries category in 2018 for admission to Post Graduate programme. All the 62 students qualified the examination with 16 students out of them securing JRF.

Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare presented the Award to the Prof. Ahmed for this achievement during the inaugural ceremony of the All India Annual Vice-Chancellors Conference of the Agriculture Universities at New Delhi on 31st January, 2019.

Governor has urged the staff and students of the University to work hard towards achievement of their goals and turning the University into a Centre of excellence in teaching and research.

The injured personnel are admitted in army’s 92 base hospital at Badamibagh, Srinagar.

Heavy snowfall in December-January boosts tourism in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, FEB 14 : The tourism in Kashmir valley is witnessing a turnaround with fresh snowfall in December last year and January this year luring more tourists to visit Kashmir.
 
According to tourism department, as many as 40,000 tourists in last two months visited Kashmir. For December 2018, the footfall was around 28,000 while for January it was close to 13,000 Moneycontrol reported.
 
In addition, tourism department organises campaigns across India to promote winter tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.
 
Kashmir witnessed a sharp decline in the number of tourists last year with 8.5 lakh domestic and foreign tourists visiting the Valley. This has been the lowest footfall in Kashmir in the last seven years – a decline of 23 percent from 2017. Judging in terms of occupancy in hotels, it has been in the range of 10-20 percent in the last two years.
 
However, a good winter and the tourism department’s efforts seem to be bearing fruit. The Valley is seeing a rise in adventure tourism, and it is emerging as a destination for weddings with hotels and guest houses filled full capacity.
 
Kashmir distinguishes itself in terms of adventure tourism courtesy ‘white gold’– the fresh snow in the Himalayan state. In India, there are only three acknowledged areas for skiing, the largest being Gulmarg in Kashmir.
 

Lashkar Pays Tribute To JeM Fidayeen Attacker

Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) chief Mehmood Shah has paid tribute to JeM militant Adil Ahmad who on Thursday carried out a fidayeen attack by ramming the car against the CRPF convoy in Awantipora that left more than a dozen forces personnel dead and several injured.

Mehmood Shah, according to LeT spokesperson Dr Abdullah Ghaznavi, prayed for the “acceptance of his (Adil’s) immense sacrifice for freedom”, a statement issued to GNS said.

He hailed the “freedom fighters” for carrying out such a “massive strike”.

Failed 11th class students stages protests, raises Anti Govt, pro Moosa slogans

SRINAGAR, FEB 14 :Students 11th class who were declared fail yesterday vandalised property at BOSE office at Bemina and raised pro freedom and Zakir Moosa slogans.
 
Reports said that students assembled inside the premises and raised sloganeering against department and then raised Zikar Moosa Slogans.
 
Speaking to News agency state board of School education (BOSE) official said that student created ruckus at the office and raised Pro Zakir Moosa, and pro Pakistan slogans.
 
He further added that students broke window panes by throwing stones and clashed with officials of BOSE.
 
Meanwhile Speaking to protesting student, they said that JKBOSE have resorted to wrong marking in 11th class result which was declared yesterday.
 
They further added “Some of the students have good marks but have been declared fail while some with low marks are shown as passed. We protested against their callous attitude towards us”.
 
One of the students speaking to news agency said “I have 64 marks in IP subject but when I checked my result yesterday it shows fail how is it possible that I have 64 marks still it shows fail”.
 
He added “JKBSOE is playing BJP game with the students of Kashmir valley, when the result of 10th and 12th of Jammu division was declared there was not a single issue with result, then why is this happening with Kashmiri students only”.         
 
However parents also came in support of protesting students, a group of parents speaking to News agency said “during the result of 10th and 12th JKBSOE also did same thing now same is happening with 11th class as it’s for the first time that they are appearing in 11th class board exams, govt should provide some realization to these students”.     
 
 
The results of the 2018 academic session annual exams for Class 11 were declared by the J&K Board of School Education (JKBOSE) on Wednesday evening. The overall pass percentage of students was 63 percent, the Board said in a handout.
 
Out of 62,101 candidates who appeared in the examination last year, 39,406 have passed, the Board said. As against a pass percentage of 60 percent for boys, 67 percent girls have passed the examination.
 
A total of 32,227 boys had appeared in the annual exam across streams of Arts, Commerce and Science, out of whom 19,284 have succeeded. Out of 29,874 girls who appeared in the exam, 20,122 have passed.
 
Last year J&K state Board of School Education (JKBOSE) ordered that  Candidates of class 10th and class 11th examination failing in one out of five compulsory subjects even after Bi-Annual examination will not be, now on, allowed to continue their studies in 11th and 12th class.
 
In a notification issued by Director Academics JKBOSE, Dr Farooq Ahmad Peer, the board said that the candidates of class 10th and class 11th examinations “who are declared fail in one subject out of five compulsory subjects shall not be henceforth allowed to continue their studies in next higher classes i. e, class 11th and 12th respectively after declaration of their result of Bi-Annual examinations”.  (PTK)
