Srinagar 14 February: Reacting sharply to the murderous assault on Kashmiri students in Raipor Chhattisgarh, AIP President Er. Rasheed has said that the only reason Kashmiris get attacked everywhere is because of they being Kashmiris and Muslims. In a statement issued today Er. Rasheed said “Being a Muslim or a Kashmiri has become a crime in India and there is no guarantee to safety if a Kashmiri travels outside his native place and travelling even to Jammu has become an issue for them. When Kashmiris get attacked outside the concern governments and the security agencies often downplay the incidents and without giving a damn to the complaints of Kashmiris, authorities every time try to distort the facts, but when similar incident takes place in Kashmir, even unintentionally, from National Media to politicians everyone makes hue and cry. The helplines created by state government and other measures claimed to have been taken for the welfare of Kashmiris students studying outside Kashmir have proved nothing except false hopes and Kashmiris continue to suffer at the hands of Hindu radical elements. Someone may like it or not but the fact is that Kashmiris students and businessmen get attacked everywhere because of their religion as humiliating and harming Kashmiris is becoming like a core pillar or ultra-nationalism. It is horrible that radical organizations in Jammu are protesting even against nominal FIR filed against those who pelted stones on stranded Kashmiri passengers”. Er. Rasheed added government doesn’t allow opening of good institutions in Kashmir and thus Kashmiris students have no option but to be like second class citizens in various Indian cities. He said “Government must come out with white paper to tell that how many educational, professional and technical institutions in public and private sector are working in J&K and what is the number of same institutions in other states. There are dozens of applications pending before government for starting universities, colleges, training institutes and other professional and technical colleges in the state but government blocks the permission one way or the other”. Er. Rasheed while demanding stern action against those who attached Bandipora students in Raipor asked state government to collect information and get status of cases regarding attacks on Kashmiris in various places outside India updated, so that the facts come out and one is able to know that how the goons are being given free hand to harm Kashmiris and the FIR’s lodged against them are being thrown to dustbin. Er. Rasheed while expressing solidarity with the families of children who got injured in a mysterious blast in Plwama demanded an impartial probe to find out the real mystery behind the painful incident.

In 1 month, 160 flights cancelled at Srinagar airport
At least 160 flights were cancelled at the Srinagar “international” airport in the past one month owing to bad weather and poor visibility, even as little efforts are being made to install a high-end landing system at the aerodrome.
The flight cancellations happen notwithstanding the fact that the airport has witnessed an 18 percent increase in the flyer footfall during 2018.
An official source said while the airport witnessed footfall of 22.80 lakh passengers (both incoming and outgoing) in 2017, this number was 26.9 lakh in 2018.
Among the airports like Chandigarh, Jammu, Shimla and Amritsar, the airport witnesses highest passenger traffic but the facilities there are minimal, especially the poor landing system.
An official, who wished not to be named as he wasn’t authorised to speak to media, blamed an outdated instrumentation landing system (ILS) at the Srinagar airport for frequent flight cancellations.
The ILS is a ground-based instrumentation system that provides precision guidance to an aircraft approaching the runway to enable its safe landing during reduced visibility conditions, common in Kashmir during winters.
Director, Srinagar airport, Akash Deep Mathur said there is a requirement of 1300 meter visibility for flights to land at the Srinagar airport at present. However, once the up-gradation of the runway is undertaken, it will help to allow flights to operate in lesser visibility, he said.
“In January this year, we had 83 flight cancellations due to inclement weather, though snow is not allowed to accumulate on the runway with the use of state-of-the-art snow clearance machines. Most flight cancellations happen due to poor visibility,” said Mathur.
However, he said, apart from visibility at Srinagar, “external factors such as en-route weather and overhead weather are also responsible for flight cancellations”.

Only Stranded Traffic Allowed On Jammu-Srinagar Highway
One-way traffic continued on the Jammu-Srinagar highway on Thursday with authorities allowing only stranded vehicles to move from Jammu to Srinagar, an official said.
Over 3,000 vehicles crossed the Jawahar Tunnel on Wednesday with over 1,000 of these carrying essential supplies for the landlocked Kashmir Valley, the Traffic Department said.
“Today we have decided to allow only the stranded traffic to decongest the highway. The passage of vehicles has to be very cautious and slow at Marog in Ramban-Ramsoo sector where a 200 metre strtch is narrow and bad,” he added.
With the reopening of the highway, the stock position of essentials was improving gradually in the valley.
Acute shortages of petroleum products, vegetables, poultry products, mutton had hit the valley region during the week long closure of the 300 km long highway from February 6 to 12.(IANS)
