The Jammu-Srinagar highway remained closed for the sixth consecutive day on Monday, stranding hundreds of vehicles and creating a crisis of essential supplies in the Kashmir Valley.

“Even as hectic landslide clearance operation was on in the Ramsoo-Ramban sector, a massive landslide hit the highway at Marog on Sunday, delaying the opening of the highway,” a traffic department official said.

Unless this is cleared, no traffic will be allowed, he added.

Over 3,000 vehicles are stranded along the nearly 300-kilometre long road for the last six days.

Many stranded vehicles are carrying essential supplies for the landlocked valley. Due to the non-availability of essentials a crisis situation has arisen there.

In addition to severe shortages of edibles like vegetables, poultry products, mutton, there is shortage of petroleum products as well.

Authorities were forced to order rationing of petroleum products till the supply position improves.

Airfare between the valley and outside has skyrocketed after the closure of the highway on February 6, with series of avalanches hitting Jammu and Kashmir in various spots.

Scores of valley-bound people stranded have started running short of money due to the unforeseen severing of road links.

Those stranded have demanded special air sorties so that they can reach the valley.(IANS)

PDP flays Jitendra Singh over opposing Divisional Status to Pir Panchal and Chenab valley

0

SRINAGAR, FEB 10 :  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  has castigated BJP leader Jitendra Singh over opposing  the demand of Divisional Status to Pir Panchal and Chenab valley, stating that the BJP leader has undermined the genuine aspirations of the people and is acting like a despot.

While leading a protest demonstration in Kishtwar, senior PDP leader and MLC Firdous Tak said that it has been the long pending demand of the people of Chenab Valley and Pir Panchal region that a separate division should be accorded to them so that they do not feel left out and could have a major say in addressing the development deficit.

He added that BJP leader Jitendra Singh by opposing the demand of Pir Panchal and Chenab valley has proven that his proximities aren’t with the peoples’ aspirations but with the corridors that allow him to enjoy luxurious of power. “Jitendra Singh must know that the people of the region will not commit the mistake again to choose him as  their representative. He should construct a house in Delhi permanently as people aren’t going to accept him ever in the state,” Tak said in his address.

Launching a scathing attack on NC Vice President and former chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Tak said that it is ironic that at present Omar is making tall promises for Pir Panchal and Chenab valley and forgets that his government ignored these regions on all fronts and even to fulfil the demand of a degree college, people had to sacrifice twenty innocent lives. “Out of power, Omar Abdullah sometimes promises revocation of PSA and sometimes divisional status to Pir Panchal and Chenab valley. This is all vain delusion and such theatrics represent what NC stands for,” Tak said.

The PDP leader stated the people of Pir Panchal and Chenab valley deserve the divisional status like that of the Ladakh  and if the government continues to ignores them, the situation would turn worrisome and herculean to handle.

District President Sheikh Nasir Hussain, Ishtiyaq Hussain Waza, Arshad Giri, Wasil Doolwal,  Haji Ab Rasheed and others  also addressed people on the occasion.

Hanging Maqbool Bhat, not 1987 rigged elections is the reason for armed insurgency: Er. Rasheed

0

SRINAGAR, FEB 10 : Hundreds hailing from all walks of life participated in daylong Seminar organized by AIP at Sopore today to pay homage to Mohammad Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru on their anniversaries. Those who spoke on the occasion included Mufti Nissar Ahmad, Prince Parvez, Malik Tariq Rashid, Sheeban Ashaie, Advocate  Sajad and Advocate Noor-ul-Shahbaz. Speakers called both the hangings as judicial murders and politically motivated.

Speaking on the occasion Er. Rasheed asked New Delhi to introspect and tell Indians how has Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru’s hangings helped Indian state.

Er. Rasheed said “While New Delhi has a history of broken promises, it was Maqbool Bhat’s hanging, not alleged rigging in 1987 elections that persuaded youth to pick up arms. Those claiming 1987 rigging as reason for start of armed insurgency are distorting facts.

Maqbool Bhat’s hanging made Kashmiris to believe that New Delhi does not want to resolve Kashmir dispute and has decided to bulldoze all those voices who would seek resolution to Kashmir dispute. In fact Mqbool Bhat’s hanging was aimed to terrorize Kashmiris but New Delhi had a huge miscalculation and his hanging proved counterproductive. By denying the mortal remains of both Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru New Delhi not only confessed its guilt but its claims of being a state believing in non-violence proved fake”.

Er. Rasheed appealed people of India to understand that hangings have deteriorated the situation further and whatsoever destruction has taken place in J&K and elsewhere has a direct connection with the hanging of Maqbool Bhat and most unfortunate thing was that rather taking lessons from Maqbool Bhat’s hanging, New Delhi repeated the mistake and hanged Afzal Guru too, which led to further disappointment among youth and second phase of militancy started in Kashmir.

Asking New Delhi to respect the sentiments of people of J&K Er. Rasheed appealed for return of mortal remains of both the martyrs and reminded New Delhi that for Kashmiris and all peace loving people neither Maqbool Bhat nor Afzal Guru were terrorists but whatsoever happened with them was travesty of justice and the hangings were nothing but judicial murders.

He said if New Delhi believes in Rule of Law then one has a right to ask that why not even a single men in uniform could be hanged like Afzal Guru or Maqbool Bhat as how it is possible that everyone who killed Kashmiris would be innocent.

Appealing for unity among Kashmiris Er. Rasheed asked pro-resistance leadership to broaden its consultations and try to strengthen pro-resistance voices, as the fight between Kashmiris and New Delhi is bigger than our personal interests and egos.

Hurriyat chairman said that these ultimate sacrifices have made our movement so precious that nobody can ever think of any compromise or betrayal. He said that Delhi rulers and their local henchmen should bear it in mind that muscular approach can never force a nation to submission and unending killing spree and fear psychoses cannot lease for them ever.

Meanwhile Syed Ali Geelani while reiterating the demand for the return of mortal remains of both Mohammad Maqbool Bhat and Mohamad Afzal Guru, said that today on his 6th anniversary prayer ceremony was organized to pay tribute to our hero, however state authorities laid curbs, restrictions and arrested hundreds of political activists. We strongly condemn police action and it is sheer bullying and highhandedness, he said.

Mehbooba Mufti slams BJP over Ram Temple Issue

0

SRINAGAR, FEB 10 : PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti today praised Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan for taking steps to name a forest reserve after Guru Nanak Dev, but hit out at the Centre government saying its “top priority” seems to be renaming ancient cities and building Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Mehbooba Mufti said in a tweet “How times change. Centre’s top priority is seemingly renaming historic cities & building Ram Mandir. On the other hand, heartening to see that Pak PM has initiated steps to name Baloki forest reserve after Guru Nanak ji & create a university under his name,”.

She was reacting to Imran Khan’s announcement that he was taking steps to name the wild life reserve after Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism.

Recently, Allahabad was renamed to Prayagraj and Faizabad district was renamed to Ayodhya district.

On the Ram Mandir issue, the BJP leadership has made its stand clear that the party is committed to building the temple at the disputed site.

Mehbooba Mufti’s comparison of the BJP’s “priority” in India to the Pak PM’s initiatives is a direct dig on the former’s camp.
