Traders and industrialists in the state have been opposing the levying of tax on goods on their entry into the state.

Swine Flu Brings More Heart Attacks, Strokes: DAK

0

Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Monday said swine flu infection significantly increases the risk of heart attack and stroke.

“If you catch swine flu, you are at an increased risk of having a heart attack or stroke,” said DAK President Dr Nisar ul Hassan.

Quoting a Canadian study published in The New England Journal of Medicine, Dr Nisar said people who get flu are six times more likely to have a heart attack in the first week of the illness.

“The risk is particularly high among elderly and those with underlying heart conditions,” he said.

“In another study at Columbia University in United States flu increased the odds of having a stroke by nearly 40 percent,” Dr Nisar said.

“The most significant risk occurred in the 15 days following the illness, but patients with flu continued to have elevated risk of stroke for an entire year,” he said.

Dr Nisar said flu causes acute and severe inflammation that builds up fat deposits in the inner walls of blood vessels. These fat deposits dislodge and get stuck in heart or brain, where they block the blood flow.

He added flu activates blood cells and clotting system leading to increased risk of blood clots.

“The number of heart attacks and stroke patients in Kashmir doubles in winter and flu is a major factor,” he informed.

He said the risk is similar to the risk seen for other known risk factors, such as high blood pressure, diabetes or smoking.

Dr Nisar said you can prevent many heart attacks and strokes by getting vaccinated against flu.

“Studies have shown people who receive flu shots are 55% less likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke,” he said.
“Ideally, people should get vaccine by the end of October. However, getting vaccinated later can still be beneficial and vaccination should continue to be offered throughout the flu season,” Dr Nisar advised. 0

Greater Noida, Feb 11 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi exuded confidence on Monday that India would continue to be the fastest-growing large economy, and could be the second-largest economy in the world by 2030.

“Leading agencies such as IMF and World Bank project the same trend to continue in the coming years. In an uncertain global economic environment, India has shown tremendous resilience as an anchor of the world economy,” Modi said addressing inaugural address of Petrotech 2019 here.

Modi said, currently, India is fastest-growing large economy in the world… and it “recently became the sixth-largest economy in the world. According to a recent report, by 2030 India could be the second-largest world economy.”

As per a Standard Chartered report, India is likely to pip the United States to become the world’s second-largest economy by 2030. China will on the top spot surpassing US, which will be at the third place, the report said.

On the roller coaster movement of crude oil and pricing of petroleum, he said, “We need to move to responsible pricing which balances interests of both producers and consumers. We also need to move toward transparent and flexible market for both oil and gas, only then we can serve energy needs of humanity in optimal manner.”

He also said that India has made rapid strides in achieving COP21 targets and are on way to achieve those.

He said, “India has the fourth-largest refining capacity in the world. This will further grow up by about 200 million metric tonnes by 2030. Our national bio fuel policy has enacted last year… research on second and third generation bio fuel is being promoted. 12-second generation bio refineries are being set up in 11 states.”

Talking about energy policy of India he said, “We have adopted an integrated approach in energy planning. During the last Petrotech Conference in 2016, I mentioned four pillars for India’s future – energy access, efficiency, sustainability and security.”

He was of the view that energy justice is also key objective for him and a top priority for India.

“Toward this end, we have developed and implemented many policies. The results of these efforts are now evident. Electricity has reached all our rural areas. This year, we aim to achieve 100 per cent electrification of households in India through a targeted programme called Saubhagya. As we raise production, we also aim to reduce losses in transmission and distribution,” he added.

He also mentioned that under our UDAY scheme, the government is working towards this objective. India’s World Bank ease of electricity ranking improved from 111 in 2014 to 29 in 2018.

Man chooses PUBG over pregnant wife, leaves family because of his PUBG addiction

0

A Malaysian man is missing from his home for nearly a month now after he left his family, including 4 months pregnant wife, because of his addiction to PUBG. The man probably wanted to play the game without any interference so he walked out of his house one day and never returned. The man reportedly left his wife after he was “disturbed” by his family from completing his daily PUBG quota.

The report about the man leaving his family because of PUBG addiction came out on a website called World of Buzz, and it is apparently based on a Facebook post made by the man’s wife. The post, made in Malay language, noted that the man left his family after his wife scolded him for playing PUBG all the time and for neglecting his work and responsibilities.

It has been reported that PUBG was introduced to the man by one of his siblings. The man has not been identified in the Facebook post. The woman in her post noted that her husband was so addicted to the game that he kept playing PUBG during the night. As a result, the addiction started affecting his lifestyle, which then affected the man’s work and family affairs.

As reported by the World of Buzz, the wife writes in her post, “It has been a month since he has left us. We are now left with no choice but to support ourselves through any hardship that may come. Before he started playing PUBG, his personality was much more tolerable. However, the situation gradually grew worse from when he first started playing the game four years ago (PUBG didn’t exist four years ago so it is possible that the woman is alluding to online gaming in general here). Please pray that he will return to our family.”

Do treat this report with a bit of scepticism because for now, it is not clear if any formal missing complaint has been registered with the Malay police in this case or not.

But if something like this has indeed happened, it won’t be the first time someone has been a victim of PUBG addiction. PUBG is wildly popular across the world, as well as in India, and there are people who can be deemed addicted to it.

In India, PUBG MOBILE is played by millions of smartphones users, including young teens. Earlier, a fitness trainer in Jammu was hospitalised after it was reported that the man’s addiction to PUBG left him in trauma and he started punching himself. A few weeks ago, there were reports that an 18-year-old boy in Mumbai hanged himself after his parents refused to buy him an expensive phone for playing PUBG.

Consequently, in India, government officials and institutions have tried to limit PUBG. The Gujarat government recently issued a notice to all primary schools to ban children from playing PUBG. The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) also banned PUBG. Recently, even Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged the issue of PUBG addiction in the country at an event called Parkisha Pe Charcha 2.0 and discussed ways in which parents could deal with it.

New Delhi, Feb 11: Governor Administration has sought adjournment of the matter related to 35-A which was listed to be taken up during the current week.

The application of adjournment is moved before the Registrar General of Supreme Court by the State Government of Jammu and Kashmir through it’s Advocate On Record (AOR) M. Shoeb Alam.

Article 35A, which was incorporated in the Constitution by a 1954 Presidential Order, accords special rights and privileges to the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir and denies property rights to women who marry those from outside the state.

Confirming the development AOR M. Shoeb Alam told news agency CNS that he approached the Supreme Court seeking adjournment of the hearing on petitions challenging the validity of Article 35A of the Constitution in view that there is no elected government present in Jammu and Kashmir these days.

In a letter to the registrar of the Supreme Court and circulated, M Shoeb Alam, the standing counsel for the state in the apex court, sought adjournment of hearing on five petitions scheduled for Feb 12 to 14.

Malaysia’s Najib in last-ditch bid to delay trial

0

Kuala Lumpur, Feb 11 (AFP) Malaysia’s former prime minister Najib Razak was making a last-ditch bid Monday to delay the start of his trial over the 1MDB scandal, which contributed to his government’s shock election defeat.

Najib is due to go on trial Tuesday for the first time over allegations that he was involved in the looting of Malaysian sovereign wealth fund 1MDB in a fraud that stretched around the world.

Billions of dollars were allegedly stolen by Najib and his cronies from the fund, which was set up to help develop Malaysia’s economy, and spent on everything from high-end real estate to expensive artworks.

The scandal was a major factor in his long-ruling coalition’s loss at polls in May. Since losing power, Najib has been arrested repeatedly and hit with a total of 42 charges linked to 1MDB. He has denied wrongdoing.

The trial due to begin Tuesday is on seven charges related to allegations Najib pocketed 42 million ringgit (USD 10.3 million) from SRC International, a former unit of 1MDB.

But his lawyers have filed an application for the trial to be delayed pending an appeal on a technicality related to the transfer of charges between different courts. The Court of Appeal is due to rule on the application later Monday.

It is just one of several trials Najib is expected to face over 1MDB and involves a fraction of the total purportedly stolen from the fund.

But the start of the first trial will be a key moment, and may relieve pressure on the new government following criticism that it has been slow to act over 1MDB.

Far from keeping quiet, Najib has gone on a bizarre publicity blitz in recent weeks, performing a cover of a 1970s R&B hit accompanied by backing singers, attacking the new government on social media and seeking to present himself as a man of the people.
