PDP slams Omar over PSA revocation remark

0

SRINAGAR, Feb 1: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday slammed Omar Abdullah for his remarks on PSA revocation, stating that NC Vice President has forgotten the fact that he, his father and his grandfather have presided over the most brutal, corrupt and despotic regimes of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement issued here, PDP General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura said that since 1931, Abdullah family has been bartering peoples’ aspirations for petty power and has played a vital role in turning Kashmir into a veritable inferno.

He said that soon after assuming office after 1996, the national conference regime invented the most inhuman ways to torture the innocent people of Kashmir and enacted new laws like POTA, TADA and many more, making Kashmir one of the most dangerous places on earth to live.

Hanjura said that the people of Kashmir still remember the Ikhwan terror and the war crimes committed by the task force. Such forces, said Hanjura, were accorded complete impunity by NC Patriarch Dr Farooq Abdullah and there were clear cut directions given to them to kill people instead of detaining them as jails were packed to capacity.

“When Omar, in 2009 took over, his rule began with the killing of a mentally challenged person just outside his residence followed by Shopian rape and murder case. There again instead of siding with the victims, Omar Abdullah by keeping his family legacy alive sided with culprits and concluded that the case was nothing more than a mere case of drowning,” Hanjura said.

He added that what Kashmir is witnessing today is the outcome of the repressive measures which were employed by Omar Abdullah to crush peoples’ voice. “Killing 120 kids in cold blood and then declaring them drug addicts is still fresh in peoples’ memory. People still remember how Srinagar’s central jail was turned into a middle school with kids no more 12 years of age bundled with dreaded criminals. Amnesty International in its 2010 report ridiculed Omar Abdullah for slapping more than 322 people with PSA in just eight months of the year 2010,” said Hanjura.

The PDP General Secretary said that NC has always been in the forefront, making attempts to dull the self respect of the people and play with their emotions. “Omar being the Chief Minister hoodwinked people then by sometimes promising revocation of AFSPA in one day and sometimes declaring that the black law will go away in his regime. All such claims are lying around him at present like the dry dead flowers and NC Vice President should understand that there is no need for new rabbits at present,” Hanjura.

He added that it was PDP that gave people their rights and inspired them to hope for prosperous and peaceful future. “People still remember the time when NC was routed and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed became the Chief Minister of the state. That period is still considered as a golden period in the state then task force was removed, new peace initiatives were taken and Srinagar Muzaffarabad road was opened,” said Hanjura and added that NC must know that it can no longer befool people with its bizarre and shameless slogans.

PSAJK terms 6% fee hike, too little too late

0

SRINAGAR, Feb 1: Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) today termed the government decision to allow a meager 6% fee hike annually as too late and too little. The Association also expressed its shock at the government decision to stop private schools from charging one time admission fee from students as the same will crush the private sector and hurt the growth of education sector in a big way.

The Association said that the 6% of fee hike is nothing when compared to the rise of prices in the market. “As per government order dated 2006 schools were enhancing fee by 10% annually. However in the backdrop of 2014 floods the then government revoked this order and assured us that a comprehensive education policy will be framed,” said G N Var, Chairman PSAJK. “We are still waiting for that policy. In 2017 government allowed us 8% fee hike annually however because of an ambiguous order from FFC (Fee Fixation Committee) the Association sought clear directions.  Due to fall of Govt. it took time and now the Govt has allowed us 6% hike which is too less as we can’t meet the market inflation and can’t pay 10% salary hike to our staff.”

The Association said that the FFC should have followed all India model, wherein 8-15 % fee hike is allowed. “We want government to allow us charge 10% annually as per government order of 2006 and also one time admission fee as is the norm,” said Var.

The Association said that the education sector has become highly competitive and schools have to compete at global levels. “From smart class rooms to new learning aids and specialised training to teachers, everything happens when schools are assured of finances,” said Var. “We invested all our blood and sweat, our energy and most importantly constructed new infrastructure by investing our hard earned money. We raised finances by selling our ancestral land and other assets. In many cases, we got loan worth crores from JK Bank by mortgaging our residential houses.”

The coming of outside branded schools has also put heavy pressure on many of our schools as they are forced to invest more to compete with them by investing more. “Branded schools have 3 to 4 times more fee than most of our schools,” said Var. “If 10 % fee hike and the admission fee is denied to us, our students won’t be able to compete with rest of world. It will be a collective loss for society.”

The Association said that most of the schools are under the financial burden and they have been waiting for education policy and resumption of 2006 government order, in order to gain stability. “During these few years of instability the schools survived only because of admission fee and this admission fee is our backbone. If the government removes it, anybody can guess what will happen next,” said Var. “Maybe schools will have to down shutters as it will become unviable to run a school with so many curbs.”

NC committed to 33 p c reservation for women in LA: Shamima

0

JAMMU FEBRUARY 01- National Conference Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana on Friday advised Pradesh Bhartiya Janata Party to stop selling dreams to people of Jammu, whose massive 25-member 2014 mandate they sold for remaining in the cradle of power as non-entities.

“Those who could not bargain with the PDP the rotational Chief Ministership despite huge mandate are now talking about BJP CM from Jammu”, Mr Rana said while addressing a day-long convention of National Conference Women Wing at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here, presided over by State President Shamima Firdous and organized by Provincial Women Wing President Mrs Satwant Kaur Dogra.

Among prominent women leaders, the convention was also addressed by Mrs Shamima Firdous and Mrs Satwant Kaur Dogra.

Mr Rana said that BJP’s greed for power witnessed all time low in parliamentary democracy last year when it started hobnobbing with a two-member north Kashmir based political party to form the government. It was almost a shocker for Jammu to see the BJP with 25 MLAs begging to two-member Peoples Conference to form the government by relinquishing the claim of the Chief Ministership. He blamed the BJP for undermining Jammu pride just to enjoy the loaves of power.

“The BJP’s Jammu Chief Minister rant is an insult to the people’s sense of political understanding and perhaps a big political joke”, the Provincial President said while taking the party head on for generating passions and exploiting emotions. He asked the BJP to read writing on the wall and stop nurturing inflated ambitions. The BJP, he said, has lost its face as also credibility in Jammu, which had provided the party a huge space in the mistaken belief of deliverance. However, their experiment turned out a big nightmare for which they paid in terms of under-development of the entire Jammu region. He said the BJP leaders can take solace of having fulfilled their personal aspirations and ambitions but the people of the region at large remained at the receiving end for over three years of their misrule.

He reminded the BJP of its shrinking space in Jammu due to anger among the people for their betrayal and failure in keeping up the commitments.

Mr Rana exhorted the cadre, especially the women wing to gear up in a big way for meeting challenges faced to the State. He said women have a huge role to play in transforming the state and steering it to peace and progress.

Addressing the convention, State President Women Wing Mrs Shamima Firdous hailed the announcement made by the party President Dr Farooq Abdullah about 33 per cent reservation for women in the Legislative Assembly, if National Conference is voted to power with absolute majority.

“This will be yet another initiative towards women empowerment”, Mrs Shamima said, adding that National Conference has already empowered women by granting 33 per cent reservation in grass roots level democratic institutions and 50 per cent reservation in the medical colleges.

Mrs Shamima said that political empowerment and economic emancipation of women is imperative for harmonious growth of the society. The women, she said, have greatly contributed in various fields, be it administration, academics or health care. “Given opportunity, women have proven to be second to none”, she said, adding that National Conference has pioneered various measures for the upliftment of this important segment of society over the years.

Mrs Shamima exuded confidence about massive victory for National Conference, saying the people have realized that this is the only party that can steer out the state from the morass.

State Vice President Mrs Bimla Luthra exhorted women to play their designated role in the decision making and development of the State.

Mrs Luthra said that Jammu and Kashmir is passing through a most difficult phase and National Conference alone can bring political stability.

Provincial President Women Wing Mrs Satwant Kaur Dogra highlighted the challenges confronted to the State, and said National Conference is well poised to surmount all these challenges with courage and fortitude.

Mrs Kaur expressed concern over divisive politics being pursued by the parties like BJP and urged people to unite and foil their machinations, which were detrimental to the interests of the state. She said reactionary forces are needed to be isolated politically.

Provincial Vice President Mrs Vijay Laxmi Dutta said that National Conference is a force to reckon with and expressed confidence that given the support of the people, the party will emerge stronger than ever before in the ensuing elections.

Mrs Swaran Lata, former legislator, said that National Conference is custodian of the interests of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. “This is the only party that can ensure equitable development of all the three regions of the State”, she added.

Mrs Deepinder Kour, former legislator, also addressed the convention and urged the cadre to further intensify their mass outreach programme and apprise the people about policies and programmes of National Conference.

The district level functionaries of NC Women Wing, Jammu region also addressed the convention.

Qazigund Administration/Healthcare in doldrums: Family walks 12 Km with pregnant woman to hospital

SRINAGAR, Feb 1: Highlighting the official apathy and the grim infrastructural scene in rural areas of Kashmir, a woman suffering from labour pain had to be carried on shoulders to the hospital covering a distance of 12 kilometers from her home.

Mevish Jan, a resident of village Dingowari Manzmoh of Qazigund Tehsil in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district developed labour pain on Friday morning. Her family members called the helpline number 108 for ambulance services repeatedly but to no avail.

As the ambulance could not reach her home, her relatives decided to carry her in a makeshift cradle to the National Highway travelling around six kilometers from the village.

On reaching the National Highway, the family members of the pregnant lady said that they again called the ambulances services, dialing 108, but there was no response from the hospital.

Later, the family members of the pregnant woman who was suffering from acute pain decided to continue their journey on foot. They carried the patient on their shoulders traveling another six kilometers to reach the hospital.

Mudasir Ahmad Padder, a local resident censured the administration for not clearing snow from the arterial roads of their village which according to him was one of the reasons that the ambulance could not be deputed to their village.

“These incidents illustrate how our authorities have failed to provide basic facilities to people in remote parts of our district. Citizens who face medical emergencies have no other option but to carry their patients on their shoulders or in palanquins like bundles of hay,” the family members remarked in a sarcastic tone.

Later, the woman was admitted to the Emergency Hospital Qazigund and her condition is stated to be stable, the members of the family informed.

Passing the buck, the BMO Qazigund, Dr Zahoor Ahmad told Kashmir Despatch: “I never received a call from any such patient. Yes we ferried some patients from different places today but I don’t know anything about this patient.”

Dr Mohammad Rafiq Dhobi, Medical Superintendent Emergency Hospital Qazigund, when contacted by Kashmir Despatch, said: “Yes the patient about whom you are talking has been admitted in this hospital but I don’t know anything about their complaint regarding ambulance service.”

The CMO Kulgam, Dr Fazil Ali Kochak, told Kashmir Despatch, “I have received this complaint but the helpline number which you have mentioned (108) is not functional in Kashmir. I have asked the BMO concerned to seek an explanation from concerned Asha worker as to why she didn’t inform the hospital or BMO’s office?”

However, the family members absolved Asha worker of any lapse saying that they were not able to contact her in the morning.

Asked about cut-off and snow bound arterial roads of Qazigund, the ADC Kulgam, Ghulam Hassan Sheikh assured Kashmir Despatch that administration will expedite the snow clearance in the cut-off areas and will ensure smooth traffic at such places.

Geelani calls Governor Satya Pal alien, Says alien threatening sons of soil is surprising

Srinagar, Feb 1, : Hypocrisy and arrogance touches new heights when a person, as administrative representative of oppressive monster, posing as Vice-Roy of Delhi, continues his venomous utterances, said All Parties Hurriyat Conference chairman, Syed Ali Geelani while commenting on the statement of Jammu and Kashmir Governor.

He said that it is surprising and ridiculous that a person “alien” on this soil, hailing from a place thousands miles away—threatens the permanent and legal residents of this land, to flee from here. This is outcome of the sick and biased mindset every oppressor genetically poses. His power intoxicates him to the false and baseless belief that might and force authorizes him every liberty to humiliate the masses.

Pro-freedom leader said that governor should at least have a general understanding and basic knowledge that a qualified and conscious youth can hardly fall prey to the exploitation of any religious cleric, a priest or a political figure. Worldly luxuries its glamour can’t convince him to opt for an extreme step.

Had the Indian rulers and their proxies sincerely tried to dig a little deep in the situation, without using the prism of ultra nationalism or fascist religious color, they would have come across that fundamental and basic reason for the chaotic scenario. Azadi is not only our dream, but a passion, a purpose and a much cherished destiny, nourished by the blood, honor, life and livelihood of this ill-fated nation and if Mr. Governor finds it hard to get to the mathematics of it, he better unfold the pages of history or enquire from his predecessor —when they themselves were fighting oppression. Their oppressor also threatened them same way as his military might and illegal control has blinded them as well—but realistic tide of time swept their empire and squeezed them to a small piece of land—encouraging every subjugated nation to fight back.

Hurriyat chairman said that showing mirror to their own stooges itself testifies that to ensure their forced and illegal control, how low Indian rulers had stooped. Like their monsters, these collaborators too lack the genes of honesty, dignity, consciousness and self-esteem. Whenever a trace of wellness is hard to find, when dead are used as a stair to build its empire, when crocodile tears are shed just to gain sympathy—then the words of disgrace too are taken as compliment to be proud of.

Pro-freedom leader said that governor should not indulge himself in the “Janat discussion”—as our paradise piece of land is turned into a hell by the inhuman and brute policies of Delhi.

Referring to the “army help” in 2014 floods, Hurriyat chairman said that every Kashmiri knows to the core of their heart what help your “disciple”, “accountable” and “human” armed forces rendered to the victims. It was inspirational and dedicated youth who without proper equipment and resources rescued sufferers irrespective of their ethnic and linguistic affiliation.

Pro-freedom leader said that long and torturous movement despite its ups and downs, thick and thin testifies it beyond ambiguity that we as a nation can’t be befooled and lured by the lollipop of economic packages, employment or development and if rulers in Delhi and their sub-ordinates here, really care for this land and its habitants, respect the emotions and aspirations—then they should silence roaring guns, open the gates of detention centers and replace the brutality and beastness with golden and universal principles of humanity, brotherhood and morality to let the suffocating and gasping population of more than 15 million to exercise their basic and birth right of a peaceful, dignified and honoured life.
