add add Woman arrested in suspected honour killing case in Gaya

0

Gaya, Jan 21 (PTI) Police on Monday arrested a woman in connection with a suspected case of honour killing of a 16-year-old girl in Bihar’s Gaya district.

The mutilated body of the girl was found on January 6 in Patwa Toli area of the district, after she went missing from her home in late December last year, police said.

Gaya Senior Superintendent of Police Rajiv Mishra said the woman was produced before a local court here, which remanded her in judicial custody.

Two persons, including the girl’s father, have been so far been arrested in the case, he said.

The SSP said that the woman has admitted to having an illicit relation with a friend of the girl’s father — who has also been arrested — and dumping the minor’s body in collusion with him after killing her.

Further investigation into the killing is underway, Mishra added.

Choksi will be brought back to India: Rajnath

0

Greater Noida, Jan 21 (PTI) Home Minister Rajnath Singh Monday asserted that absconding diamantaire Mehul Choksi will not be spared and will be brought back to India to face the law.

Singh, who laid the foundation stone for a Kendriya Vidyalaya at a CISF camp here, said this in response to a question about Choksi surrendering his Indian passport to the High Commission in Guyana.

The diamond jeweller had taken citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda after his name cropped up in the USD 2 billion fraud at a Mumbai-based branch of the PNB along with his nephew and businessman Nirav Modi.

“We have brought the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act and there is a process under that law (to check fraud cases). He (Choksi) will be brought to India for sure. No one will be spared. Action will be taken against everyone,” the minister said on the sidelines of the event.

As per the law, Indian citizens are expected to surrender their passports when they acquire foreign nationality.

Government sources said India continues to pursue Choksi’s return with the government of Antigua through diplomatic and legal channels.

In August last year, India gave Antigua a request for Choksi’s extradition. A team from India was also sent to Antigua to pursue the request.

Both Choksi and Nirav Modi are being probed by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate. The agencies have arrested several people and filed charge sheets in the case.

Former British PM Tony Blair’s sister-in-law converted to Islam: Here’s her journey to Islam

0

London: Lauren Booth, broadcaster and journalist, is former British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s sister-in-law, who converted to Islam in 2010.

Here below is her journey to Islam and the heart-warming reaction of her family in this translated version of a recent interview:

I thank Allah for giving me the chance to spend a month with the greatest Muslims alive in this ‘Ummah’ today!

At the end of Ramadan, I went to a family home in Rafa one of the poorest refugee camps in the poorest areas,
of the over populated city in the entire world.

I had ‘Iftar’ with a family there who had about 16 mats, which were used at night to sleep on. In the middle of this tent area the mother places the meal if she has any for her children to eat…{!}

This lady greeted me at the door and it was as if she was welcoming me to the Taj Mahal not a hellhole
in the Gaza strip…!!!

”Sallam Alaykum!” she says with a smile that lights up the whole area.

I asked her: “What is it like in Rafa at Ramadan with very little food ?”

She said: ‘Alhamdulillah!’ with such joy I couldn’t help but smile. And as I sat there on the floor of this home eating what little leaves that they had; a bit of hummus, a pita bread that was our ‘Iftar’.

I got angry … really angry ! I thought what is this God that makes hungry people even hungrier ? What is this God Who creates a fast for the poorest of the oppressed people in the world.

So, I turned to this sister and I said: “With all due respect I want to ask you, why does your God starve you in Ramadan ? Why do you fast in Ramadan sister, just explain to me?”

This lady who never owned a handbag, whose children didn’t have, never had shoes. Whose children I was sitting with didn’t have pen or paper to do any drawings,

she said to me: “Sister we fast in Ramadan to remember the poor.”

And a key went to my heart and unlocked it…!!!

But of course Islam wasn’t for me that was for somebody else so I put the thought of how great Islam was to one side and said so what …

I like the Palestinian people but it has nothing to do with Islam.

Then last year in Ramadan again I went to Iran as a journalist and I visited a mosque there, it’s the Bibi Fatima Mosque and I made ‘Wadu’ because I knew how to do itand I put on a ‘Chadur’ and I made a simple prayer:

‘Allah … and I used the word Allah.

“Allah, don’t give me anything. I have everything.Thank you for this journey, but Allah, don’t forget the people of Palestine.”

Then I sat down in this busy mosque with women feeding their children, pilgrims coming and going; but when I sat down, this immense feeling of peace came over me.

Peace and tranquility that I never knew before, such a calm that the tension in my heart went.

There was no sound in my head for the first time in my life as an adult … just deep, deep joy and calm.

I sat there for a long time in this place of calm knowing that somewhere in the universe everything is like this.

Over the course of that evening women kept coming over to me holding me by the shoulders and saying:

“I love you.” At one point a child came over and held my hand and just said in Farsi (Persian): “I love you.”
I said to my friend Nadia, “Is this what it is like in the mosque?” She said, “Not really. I think something is happening.”

I slept that night on the floor of the mosque with a lot of other pilgrims and the next morning, Fajr sounded and I was inside the mosque and I prayed Fajr. Then I came outside and had a cup of chai and the sun was coming up and I had one very specific thought. “O, no… not Islam, please not Islam.”

I just want to say that a couple of strange things happened to me after that. I took the plane back to London from Tehran. As the plane was coming into London the pilot said: “Thank you for flying Tehran airways we’ll be in London in 20 minutes.” And at that point every Iranian Muslim woman took off the hijab and made out like she was from Sex in the City even showing some cleavage.I thought great.Thank goodness, my hands wouldn’t take off the hijab. My hands wouldn’t take off the hijab ! and I thought I was having a nervous break down !

Seven days later I said my Shahada in a London mosque and it was time for me to return to the Qur’an.

This time I opened the Qur’an, and Surah Al-Fatiha (the opening chapter) look like saying to me: ‘Hello Sarah where have you been,
welcome to the religion of peace, joy and tranquility,’and I couldn’t put it down.

Someone once told me — and I feel much like that before Islam — I had given up on God but God never gave up on me. Alhamdulillah.

The question everyone wants to know is how did your family or children react. My two daughters who are very practical and are aged 8 and 10.. They came to me with three questions:

Mummy when you’re a Muslim will you still be mummy?

I said: When I am a Muslim you know what, I will be a better mummy, they said: “Horrayyy!”

Mummy will you drink alcohol? When I am a Muslim I will never drink alcohol again and they said “Horrayyy!”

When you’re a Muslim will you show your chest?

I said why would you ask such a question?

They said when you come to the school and your chest is showing we are embarrassed and we hate it
and we want you to stop it.

When I am a Muslim I will cover all this area and to which they said: “We love Islam.”

It was that easy. When you look at those 3 questions the basic female womanhood is summarized in those 3 questions from the purity of children..

Question no. 1. Will you be the center of our household? Can we rely on you as a mother to be there for us rather than putting your work, your colleagues/friendships or the bar in front of us ?

Question no. 2. Will you remain in the limits that Allah has described for all of us in behavior ?

Question no. 3. Will you be a modest dignified woman in Islam?

Alhamdulillah that is all I have to say.

What I have learnt this year in being a Muslim is this, when you have problems don’t tell to your friends or family …if you can read the Qur’an every night or read 10 min. everyday your Imaan is much, much higher. If you live in a non-Muslim country those of us who do it can go very low very quickly, you must read the Qur’an.

If those who are not on the path of Islam if they come to Islam like me; or, if you’re a Muslim … you are on the path as well, so make sure that you don’t miss those signs in everyday life. All praise is to Allah (Almighty).SOURCE  Daily Sisayat

I will be fit before IPL, says Prithvi Shaw

0

New Delhi, Jan 21 (PTI) Recovering from an ankle injury that forced him out of the Australia tour, the young Prithvi Shaw Monday said he will be fit in time for the 12th season of Indian Premier League.

The 19-year-old Shaw suffered the injury in Australia before the start of the four-match Test series.

“I will be fit before the Indian Premier League and I am trying hard to reach full fitness. I am working on my ankle as well as on my upper body,” Shaw told ‘India TV’.

The Mumbai opener has been retained by Delhi Capitals for what will be his second season.

The batsman twisted his ankle while fielding in the deep during India’s practice match ahead of the first Test against Australia in Adelaide.

Having stayed on with the team hoping to be fit for the second Test in Perth, Shaw was eventually ruled out of the remainder of the series and sent back home for an extensive rehabilitation programme.

Recalling the injury, he said, “We were playing the practice match in Sydney ahead of the first Test. I was standing at deep mid-wicket and Ash bhai (R Ashwin) was bowling and a catch came towards me. I caught the ball while jumping backwards in the air and my body weight fell on my left foot when I landed.

“It was a bit uneven there and my ankle got twisted 90 degrees and the entire body-weight fell on that. That’s how it happened.”

Efforts were then on to get the batsman fit for the series but the severity of the injury dashed his hopes.

“I was trying hard to play in the second Test and the physios too were trying to get me fit for the match. However, the more they tried, the swelling increased and it got more painful.

“It was an unfortunate incident and you can’t really do anything about that. It was my wish to play in the challenging conditions in Australia. I love the bounce there. But unfortunately, I suffered a leg injury. But that’s okay, I am very happy that India won the Test series. It can’t get better than this.

“I got full support of the team at that time because I was very disappointed with the injury. I had practised hard for the tour and had many things in my mind that I thought I would do there. So, it was disheartening. But yeah, now I am happy that we won the series.”

Shaw has had a record-breaking start to his Test career as he aggregated 237 runs in three innings at an average of 118.50 against the West Indies.

I am afraid of controversy, want to stay away from it: Nawazuddin Siddiqui

0

Mumbai, Jan 21 (PTI) Nawazuddin Siddiqui says he wants to stay away from controversies as they shift the focus of the audience from his work to personal life.

The actor, who became a popular name post the success of 2012 film “Gangs of Wasseypur”, got embroiled in a controversy in 2017 after the release of his autobiography “An Ordinary Life”.

In his memoir, co-written by Rituparna Chatterjee, Nawazuddin detailed his relationships and flings with former Miss India Niharika Singh and actor Sunita Rajwar allegedly without their consent.

The actor later withdrew the book and apologised for hurting the sentiments of women whose name he had mentioned in the memoir.

“I am just the same person. I am an actor and I just want to work. I just want to act. I don’t want to talk about anyone and what is happening in my personal life. I don’t want people to focus on that. I am known and have become popular due to my work and so I just want to concentrate on my work,” Nawazuddin told PTI.

There were also allegations against him that he hired a private detective to spy on his wife.

“I do not feel bad. I just feel why focus on someone’s personal life. Celebrities are also human being. Everyone criticises celebrities for every little thing and that should not happen. They are normal human beings,” he added.

When asked to remark upon the #MeToo allegations against filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, Nawazuddin maintained a no comment stance.

“I just don’t want to talk about it. Why unnecessary create it all again,” he said.

The 44-year-old actor said he is afraid of controversies and wants to concentrate on his work.

“For me my career is important. After so many years of struggle I am getting to work so I want to focus on it. I want to try and stay away from all this. Now whether I get affected or not, it is a personal thing.”

Nawazuddin will be seen next in “Thackeray”, which releases this Friday. His upcoming projects are “Motichoor Chaknachoor”, “Photograph” and “Roam Rome Mein”.

KD NEWS SERVICE

SRINAGAR, JAN 21: A probe conducted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has revealed that the vehicle of former Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party lawmaker Aijaz Ahmad Mir was used to carry out the attack on Amarnath pilgrims in July 2017, which left seven dead and nearly 20 injured.

According to a local news agency, PTK, The attack took place near Batengu area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag on Srinagar-Jammu highway when a bus ferrying the pilgrims was fired upon indiscriminately by militants.

Deputy Superintendent of police (NIA) Ravinder has written a letter to Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Additional Director General (police headquarters) stating that Mir has a “soft corner towards separatists” and one of his vehicles was used in “attack” on Amarnath pilgrims, News 18 reported.

The investigation agency has sought “crime record” and “integrity report” of the former legislator. Mir was MLA from Wachi constituency of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Days after the attack, police arrested Mir’s driver, Touseef Ahmad Wani, who was deputed with him by J&K Police’s security wing. At the time of his arrest, police had alleged that he was “linked” to militants, the report states.

On September 28 last year, a special police officer (SPO), Adil Bashir, posted as personal security officer (PSO) with the same ex-legislator, fled with seven rifles of his colleagues and personal pistol of Mir from the government-provided accommodation in the high-security zone of government quarters in Jawahar Nagar area of Srinagar.

Scheduled inaugurations by PM Modi: Kashmir Valley faces visible discrimination!

0

KD NEWS SERVICE

SRINAGAR, Jan 21: As the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to lay foundation stone or inaugurate projects worth Rs 35,000 crore in Jammu province and Rs 9,000 crore in Kashmir Valley on February 03, the mainstream political parties on Monday termed the share in developmental projects allotted to Kashmir is an open discrimination with Kashmiri people.

According to a local news agency, KNS, National Conference (NC) General Secretary, Ali Muhammad Sagar said that it is an open discrimination with the people of Kashmir. “Though these projects were announced during the tenure of Late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed led government in the State, but the Kashmir region has been ignored as it has got just a few crores out of Rs 80,000 crores for the projects and other things,” he said.

He added that NC is not against the development of Jammu region as the people there are entitled to get these projects but at the same time Kashmir region must not be ignored. “We have already raised our concern in this regard in the assembly. We want every development must be impartial not biased,” he added.

Furthermore, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Vice Chairman, G N Monga told Kashmir News Service (KNS) it exhibits the hollow promises on equal development by the BJP led government.

He added that “we don’t believe in the promises they have made but at the same time, we will resist the attempts of ignoring any part of the State.”

CPI (M) leader, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami said that this is the gimmick for the people of Jammu. “The promises done with the people in 2014 are concluding ahead of the general elections. Though the people of Jammu are dissatisfied with BJP but they (BJP) are trying to send a message to the Jammuties that we care for them, which is a gimmick,” he said.

He added that it is unfortunate that PDP-BJP government was making hue and cry, claiming they have got big packages for Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, but the fact remains that most of it is not visible anywhere either in Jammu, Kashmir or Ladakh.

“Whatever the announcements were made by PM Modi in the rally which was held under the chairmanship of Late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed are nowhere, even we don’t know about the details of Rs 80,000 crores because they (the erstwhile government) didn’t convene assembly sessions properly wherein these issues could have been debated. Therefore, I believe these things are being done just to keep an eye on the coming general elections,” he said.

He added that BJP is playing the card of Jammu vs Kashmir again exhibiting they are favouring Jammu. He also added that Kashmir has already been neglected as it the sufferings of Kashmiris don’t matter for them.

Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) chairman, Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen told KNS that it’s the visible discrimination with the people of Kashmir. “We have been telling from the very beginning but unfortunately, those who put forth agenda of alliance kept our concern behind the curtains,” he said.

“Now, the BJP is itself revealing the figures about the developmental projects being inaugurated by PM Modi on his forthcoming visit, which is visible discrimination with the people of Kashmir,” he said, adding that they have never seen such kind of discrimination with the people of Kashmir that was visible in the erstwhile PDP-BJP bonhomie.
