Mehbooba seeks separatist leader’s release on humanitarian grounds

Srinagar, Jan 19 (PTI) PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday sought the release of separatist leader Shahid-ul-Islam, who is in the NIA’s custody, on humanitarian grounds as his wife was not feeling well.

The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister spoke to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh over phone after reports of Islam’s wife having suffered a brain hemorrhage emerged. 

“I share your concern for Shahid Ul Islam. Have spoken with HM requesting his early release on humanitarian grounds as the wife has suffered a brain haemorrhage,” Mehbooba said in a tweet, in response to a plea for the separatist leader’s release by a Twitter user.

Waheed Parra, the youth wing chief of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) told PTI that Mehbooba also raised the concerns about the alleged “harsh treatment” of political prisoners from the state and the charges against Kashmiri students in the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) case with the Union home minister.

It is pertinent to mention here that due to security reasons the road stretch from Radio Kashmir Chowk upto Ram Munshi Bagh / Gupkar Crossing has been restricted for general vehicular movement till 25th of January-2019 and there shall be a separate traffic regulation system for 26th of January-2019 which will be put out in due course of time.

Motorists coming from Pantha Chowk and adjacent areas to City Centre shall adopt Sonwar à Ram Munshi Bagh à Dalgate à M.A. Road and vice versa.
Motorists coming from Rajabgh and adjacent areas intending to travel towards Pantha Chowk side shall adopt Radio Kashmir Chowkà J&K Bank Corporate Office Crossing à Dalgate à R.M. Bagh à Sonwar upto their destinations.
Motorists coming from South Kashmir/ Pantha Chowk area intending to travel Barzulla/Hyderpora/Rambagh areas are requested to prefer NHW and enter via Natipora/Sanat Nagar.

Mysterious blast in Anantnag, one injured

Srinagar, Jan 19 : A civilian on Saturday was injured in a mysterious blast which took place in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. 


Reports said that a mysterious blast reported near a school on KP road in Anantnag this afternoon.


In the blast a civilian  suffered minor splinter and was shifted to district hospital Anantnag for treatment.


The injured civilian identified as Showket Ahmed son of Ghulam Qadir.


Reports said that soon after the mysterious blast panic gripped in the area. 


Meanwhile whole area has been cordoned off by security forces.

DAK calls LD incident unfortunate. Demands impartial probe

Srinagar, 19 January: Doctors Association Kashmir in a press communique called LD incident unfortunate and appealed the authorities to conduct impartial probe on fast track basis to ascertain the facts and punish the guilty.

It is disgusting, unfortunate and pathetic that a pregnant woman who had been referred from Kalaroos Kupwara (150 KM from LD hospital) was denied admission in LD hospital and was asked to leave hospital at arround 8:00 PM and subsequently she delivered on roadside at Bemina Byepass .

President DAK Dr Suhail Naik said that any referral from rural health system to medical colleges must be always respected irrespective of medical condition and complication. Sometimes patients are refered to higher setups due to social, emotional and their choice of choosing place of treatment. It is our professional responsibility that we must consider patient rights, as a basic component of human rights, and support and strengthen them in social terms also.

General Secretary DAK, Dr Owais H Dar said that It is Painful and unfortunate that a patient from Kalaroos Kupwara was asked to leave hospital at 8:00 pm in harsh winters in the month of Chilikalan. Traditionally our Mosques, Shrines and hospitals are also shelter places for displaced persons.
We request principals of all medical colleges to issue an order wherein any patient who is refered from rural health care system to central hospitals by any specialist should be admitted for at least twenty four hours irrespective of his medical condition.

Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) requests the Hon’ble Governor led administration for impartial probe to ascertain the facts and circumstances so that guilty if any may be punished as per the law of the land.


Govt orders probe after woman delivers on road side after refused entry

Srinagar, Jan 19 : The government has directed Principal Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar to probe incident involving delivery of a woman on the roadside near Lal Ded hospital leading to the death of her baby.

The woman from the far-flung area of Moori, Kalaroose, Kupwara was reportedly refused entry by doctors late Thursday night after which she gave birth to a baby on the roadside near Lal Ded, Kashmir’s premier maternity hospital here.

The normal delivery by the woman also puts a question mark on the functioning of peripheral hospitals especially in Kupwara from where she was referred late in the evening to Srinagar.

Talking to GNS, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Khan said that a formal order has been issued to Principal/Dean GMC requiring him to look into the factual position as regards denial of entry of the woman into the hospital leading her delivering on the roadside as a consequence of which baby born to her died.

“This incident needs a thorough inquiry to find out the factual position, so that appropriate action is taken against the concerned if found liable for such negligence/ act,” reads the order issued by the Divisional Commissioner to the principal GMC.

You are accordingly directed to enquire into the matter and furnish the inquiry report along with your explicit comments within two days, treating the matter most urgent, the order added.

Talking to GNS, Medical Superintendent of Lal Ded hospital, Dr Shabir Sidiqui said that the matter has been already taken up with the head of the Department Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr Farhhat Jabeen.

Pending inquiry, the doctor who was on duty on Thursday has been attached to Principal GMC, Srinagar,” the Superintendent said.

Meanwhile, the family said that had the woman not been referred to Srinagar, the baby would have survived.Action should also be taken against those who referred us to Srinagar from Kupwara hospital and also those who asked us to wait and bring the woman on Friday in the LD hospital, the family added. Fresh snowfall in Kashmir valley, Srinagar shivers at Minus 2.0 Degree

Heavy snowfall occurred in the Kashmir Valley on Saturday, with the weather office forecasting more in store for the next three days.

“A western disturbance (WD) is presently active over the state under whose influence moderate to heavy snowfall is likely to occur in the valley till January 23 after which the intensity of the WD will start decreasing,” a Met Department official said here.

District administration have set up helplines to help prevent any untoward incident due to the heavy snowfall.

While the nightlong cloud cover increased minimum temperatures throughout the valley on Saturday, the maximum temperatures are expected to drop further, the weather official said.

Srinagar recorded minus 2.0 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam minus 4.4 and Gulmarg minus 7.0 as the minimum temperatures.

Leh town had minus 9.2 degrees Celsius and Kargil minus 18.9 as the night’s lowest temperature.

Jammu city recorded 8.3 degrees Celsius, Katra 9.1, Batote 3.9, Bannihal 2.3 and Bhaderwah 1.3 as the minimum temperatures.(IANS)

Trains to run as per schedule today

Srinagar, Jan 19 : Train services from Banihal to Baramulla will run as per schedule today on Saturday amid heavy snowfall.

Authorities at railway confirmed to Kashmir Despatch that all trains plying between Banihal to Baramulla will run as per schedule, however trains will be late due to heavy snowfall which valley witnessed during night.

Pertinently air traffic also suspended following fresh snowfall in Kashmir valley.

KU postpones all exams today

Srinagar, Jan 19 : The Kashmir University (KU) has postponed all entrances examinations scheduled for today following fresh snowfall in Kashmir valley.

An official at Kashmir University told Kashmir Despatch that in view of the heavy snowfall during the night. The authorities have decided to postpone all entrances examinations which were scheduled to be held today.

The officer however added that other exams 3rd sem will be as per schedule today.

The official further added that fresh dates for the postponed entrance examinations will be notified separately.

J&K Govt decides to give away cattle heads to BPL families

JAMMU, JANUARY 18:  In a significant move, the state government has decided to give away the cattle heads got from Military Farms to the families living under Below Poverty Line (BPL).

 The decision was taken here at a meeting of defence representatives and officers of Animal Husbandry Department, chaired by Advisor to Governor Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, regarding the handing over of cattle to state government after the closure of Military Farms.  

Principal Secretary Animal and Sheep Husbandry Department Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon, Director Animal Husbandry were present in the meeting.

 It was given out in the meeting that Military dairy farms at   Nowshera, Udhampur and Jammu have 1917 cattle heads of different types.

 The Advisor directed officers of Animal Husbandry Department to chalk out the plan for distribution of these Cattle among the BPL farmer families with special preference to SC and ST through Panchayats through draw of lots.

 He further directed the concerned officers to identify the beneficiaries of district Jammu including R.S Pura, Nowshera in Rajouri and adjoining areas of Udhampur.

 The Advisor further directed Principal Secretary to constitute district level committees headed by Deputy Commissioners to monitor the distribution at the district level.

DSEK issues registration in favour of 114 Private Coaching Centres

Srinagar, Jan 18 : Directorate of School Education, Kashmir, granted registration in favour of 114 Private Coaching/Tuition Centres to run in various districts. This was revealed in an official handout issued by the Directorate for the press today.
“The registration in favour of the private coaching/tuition centres was pending for some requisite formalities which they completed yesterday and today we issued their approval vide order No. 67 – DSEK of 2019”, the statement revealed.
The statement also reads that the registration was extended in favour of 38 Private Middle Schools and 16 primary level private schools were upgraded to the next level during the last one month. The handout further reveals that approval was also accorded in favour of 54 Private School Management Bodies.
Meanwhile, IN-SITU promotions were granted in favour of 364 officials by the Directorate of School Education, Kashmir. The orders to this effect were issued today Vide Order No. 361 and 362 of DSEK of 2019.
