0

Srinagar: The Kashmiri diaspora in Bengaluru is organising a celebration of Kashmiri culture in the city called Koshur Saal, that roughly translates to Kashmiri Feast. An event where nearly 10,000 strong Kashmiri population in Bengaluru can meet, discuss ideas and break bread, International Business Times reported.

Koshur Saal aims at promoting the vibrant Kashmiri culture, mouth-watering food, soulful music and rich literature of Kashmir amongst the non-Kashmiris, especially those who’ve always wanted to visit the vibrant land of natural beauty, but haven’t been able to do so due to a lack of awareness of the ground reality or for a lack of local touch points, the reports said.

“It aims to give the non-Kashmiri attendees a sense of who Kashmiris are as community and create networking opportunities which have the potential to grow into strong professional and mentoring relationships besides strengthening the bonds of friendship between the Kashmiris and non-Kashmiris.”

The event aims to use its profits for the benefit of the underprivileged sections of the Kashmiri community as well as to generate long term employment opportunities for Kashmiris by facilitating skill development and creating sustainable job roles back home, The IBT report added.

It also aims to use its resources to connect young impressionable Kashmiri children with master craftsmen and artisans of Kashmir through a mentorship model, which will allow them to learn the crafts at a young age and ensure long terms sustainability for arts like Papier-mâché, basket weaving, khatamband, wood carving, silver and copper carving ( kandkari), carpet weaving, leather and fur crafts, silk and pashmina weaving amongst other crafts that Kashmir is known for.

The event also hopes to provide a platform for the promotion of Kashmiri music and training to budding youngsters in playing traditional Kashmiri instruments like the Rabab, Santoor and Nout besides promoting our distinct Sufi music genre.

“It is an event that caters to all Kashmiris and non-Kashmiris alike. Tickets for the event of Koshur Saal are available on Book My Show,” the report concluded.

More Bullet Than Pellet Injuries In Pulwama Incident

0

Records from hospitals in the Kashmir Valley suggest that the December 15 operation by the Army and Police resulted in the highest number of civilians hit by bullets and not pellets — 20 out of a total of 32 civilians, of whom seven died — suggesting a violation in SOP (standard operating procedure) followed by security forces.

The incident left seven civilians, three militants and a soldier dead.

All 32 civilians were brought to the Pulwama District Hospital (PDH), and were then referred to other hospitals for specialised treatment.

Hospital records were accessed by The Hindu at four government-run hospitals — the Pulwama District Hospital (PDH) in Pulwama; and the Government Hospital for Bone and Joint Surgery (GHBJS), Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) and Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital (SMHSH) in Srinagar — where the injured and dead were registered on December 15.

“Six civilians brought dead to the Pulwama District Hopsital bore at least two bullets, pointing at how the security forces not only fired to chase [away] but to inflict fatalities,” a senior doctor who performed surgeries on the injured at the PDH, told The Hindu. The seventh civilian, Touseef Ahmad Mir, was declared brought dead at Srinagar’s SMHS hospital.

The location of the bullet wounds of the seven dead civilians during the intense clashes that followed the killing of three Hizbul Mujahideen militants by 8 a.m. on Saturday, also pointed at a pattern. Hospital records suggest that deceased Amir Ahmad Paul had bullet wounds in the left groin and chest; Suhail Ahmad in the head and neck; Liyaqat Dar in the head; Touseef Ahmad Mir on the right chest; Aqib Ahmad Bhat in the chest, the abdomen and the head. “All six had bullet injuries in the abdomen, chest, head and neck,” said a doctor.

The bodies were brought in just one-and-a-half hours, starting at 9:05 a.m, at the PDH. “The first hour saw the entire blood bank of 20 pints being consumed by the patients. In next 90 minutes, 50 pints were collected from youth assembled at the hospital to meet the exigency,” said a doctor.

The PDH admitted eight persons with bullet injuries and declared six dead. Srinagar’s SMHSH admitted six, declared one dead, and admitted three others with bullets wounds; the GHBJS in Srinagar admitted seven persons with bullets and SKIMS admitted two injured, one with bullets in the limbs.
“All are stable now,” the doctors said.

For the PDH, admitting and referring 20 bullet-hit civilians was the highest “for a single day” this year in Pulwama, which has witnessed dozens of clashes.

In 2016, when the hospital treated 463 injured in the clashes that followed the killing of militant Burhan Wani, only 40 were hit by bullets. “The Saturday incident was on the higher side for any day since 2016,” said another senior doctor.

Preliminary reports suggest not less than 50 bullets were fired into the crowd lined up in a nearby paddy field and the raised road when the Army and the police were retreating from the operation site.

According to the SOP, it’s the Law and Order component of a Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) team that has to control a mob-like situation before allowing the attack party to return. “The face-off took place when two Army men were injured in the operation and were being shifted. The crowd came dangerously close,” said a police official.

However, police sources admit that the casualties could have been lower if the situation had been handled as it was on November 28, when prominent Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Naveed Jutt was killed along with his associate in Pulwama, not far from the Saturday operation.

The stone throwers left two CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) jawans injured on November 28. One CRPF jawan was hit on the head and was lying on the road for some time. However, the Law and Order component maintained calm and avoided firing bullets into the crowd despite grave provocations,” said a police official.

Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, G.M. Dar, told The Hindu, “Facts will emerge once the Divisional Commissioner-headed committee files its report. he police have also filed an FIR. It will also establish the facts.”

Ghulam Rasool Mir, Chairman, J&K Civil Secretariat Employees Coordination Committee said that employees boycotted Rural Development Department, Health and Medical Education, Education, PHE, GAD, and R&B departments in view of a huge number of attachments made by the officers at their own level in violation of Government orders.

He said that employees have decided to go for a complete strike from 26th December to press the government to resolve their long pending issues. “There is nothing in the budget for employees,” he said.

Mir told GNS that from last six months, the Governor led administration has not addressed any issues of the employees.

“The employees of Rural Development, Education, Health, PHE, GAD, R&B, Industries Commerce will boycott till the employees attached with these departments are not detached,” he said.

He said previously government has finalized some issues including revocation of SRO 202, allocation of slots in feeding KAS (from promotion quota) services of different departments, cadre review and career profession of J&K law services, J&K economics and statistics services, J&K Accounts services, enhancement of promotion quota for J&K class 4th employees from 25 to 50 percent, NPS services, regularization of DRWs and casual labourers, issue regarding pay anomalies of various services, DPC clearance of promotions of J&K legislative assembly services, eviction of illegal occupants from government quarters, construction of quarters for Darbar move employees. “After Governor took charge all the pending issues were put to cold storage and took the employees of the state for granted,” Mir said. Even thought the cordibation commitee briefed the goveror about the issues pending and also submitted a memorandum.

Instead of creating employment avenues to curb unemployment in the state, he said, the state government closed major employment generation departments like economics and statistics and appointment in Education department .

“Medi-claim scheme implemented by the government has been scrapped. The scrapping of the scheme seems direct benefit to the insurance company as government has provided Rs 60 corers in advance and still money is still being detected from the employees’ salary.” (GNS)
