KD NEWS SERVICE

SRINAGAR, April 4: In a decisive move to strengthen regulatory oversight and curb any possible misuse of medicines, the Drugs Control Department Pulwama on Saturday intensified its inspection drive across Pampore, Khrew and adjoining areas, reinforcing its commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring strict adherence to legal provisions.

The enforcement drive, conducted on April 4, was carried out in close coordination with the Station House Officers (SHOs) of Pampore and Khrew, reflecting a joint effort between regulatory authorities and local law enforcement agencies. The coordinated action aimed to ensure full compliance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules, which govern the sale, distribution, and storage of pharmaceutical products across the country.

Officials said that multiple medical establishments, including retail and wholesale chemist outlets, were subjected to thorough inspections. The checking process involved a detailed scrutiny of operational practices, documentation, and infrastructure maintained by the chemists.

During the inspections, the department issued on-the-spot instructions to several chemists, directing them to strictly comply with mandatory requirements. Key directives included the installation and proper maintenance of CCTV cameras within premises to enhance surveillance and accountability. Chemists were also instructed to ensure that CCTV footage is preserved and readily accessible for inspection by authorities whenever required.

In a significant push towards modernization and transparency, the department emphasized the immediate transition to computerized billing systems. Officials noted that digital billing not only ensures accuracy in transactions but also helps in maintaining traceable records, thereby minimizing the scope for irregularities.
Particular attention was given to the handling of Schedule H1 drugs, a category of medicines that includes certain antibiotics and habit-forming drugs, which are prone to misuse if not properly regulated. Inspecting teams meticulously examined purchase and sale records of these drugs, ensuring that chemists maintain detailed and updated registers as mandated under the law.

Officials reiterated that maintaining proper documentation is not merely a procedural formality but a critical safeguard against the unauthorized sale and potential abuse of sensitive medicines. Any discrepancies or lapses in record-keeping were noted, and strict instructions were issued for immediate rectification.
The Drugs Control Department underscored its zero-tolerance policy towards any violation of statutory provisions. Authorities warned that non-compliance, whether in documentation, infrastructure, or adherence to prescribed norms, will invite strict legal action under the relevant sections of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
Reaffirming its commitment to public health, the department stated that such inspection drives will be conducted on a regular basis across the district. The intensified monitoring is aimed at ensuring that pharmaceutical practices remain ethical, transparent, and in strict conformity with regulatory standards.
Officials further stressed that these proactive measures are essential to prevent the misuse of drugs, curb illegal practices, and protect the community from the risks associated with unregulated pharmaceutical activities. The department also urged chemists to cooperate fully with inspection teams and adopt all necessary measures to remain compliant.

The drive sends a strong message that regulatory vigilance is being stepped up in Pulwama district, particularly in sensitive areas like Pampore and Khrew, where authorities are determined to ensure that public health remains uncompromised.

KD NEWS SERVICE

SRINAGAR, April 3: The Government on Thursday assured that there is adequate availability of petroleum products and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) across Jammu and Kashmir, urging consumers to refrain from panic buying as supplies remain stable and well within prescribed norms.

According to a statement issued by the Press Information Bureau, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have confirmed that the stock position of key fuel products, including Motor Spirit (MS) and High-Speed Diesel (HSD), is sufficient to meet the current demand across the Union Territory.

Shri Himanshu Sharma, State Level Coordinator for the Oil Industry in Jammu and Kashmir, stated that the inventory levels at fuel depots and retail outlets remain normal, ensuring uninterrupted supply to consumers. He emphasized that OMC depots across the region are maintaining adequate reserves, while petrol pumps continue to operate with sufficient stock, preventing any disruption in fuel availability.

“Both MS and HSD stocks are stable and aligned with demand patterns. There is no shortage, and the supply chain is functioning smoothly,” Sharma said, adding that continuous monitoring mechanisms are in place to assess demand fluctuations and respond promptly.

The official further highlighted that the LPG supply chain is equally robust. Bottling plants across Jammu and Kashmir are operating with comfortable stock levels, maintaining inventories as per the prescribed norms. Regular replenishment cycles are being followed to ensure timely availability of domestic cooking gas cylinders to households.

In view of prevailing concerns that often trigger panic purchasing, authorities have reiterated that there is no cause for alarm. The government has put in place comprehensive logistical arrangements to streamline transportation and expedite deliveries, particularly to far-flung and vulnerable areas.

Sharma underscored that OMCs are maintaining close coordination with distributors and transport networks to ensure seamless movement of fuel and LPG supplies. “All necessary steps have been taken to strengthen logistics and avoid any bottlenecks in the supply chain,” he noted.

The administration has also issued an advisory urging consumers to act responsibly and avoid hoarding or panic buying, which can unnecessarily strain the distribution system. “Adequate stocks are available, and supplies are being replenished regularly. There is absolutely no need for panic purchases,” the statement read.

For LPG consumers, the government has encouraged the use of digital platforms for booking refills to enhance convenience and efficiency. Consumers have also been advised to verify deliveries through the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system, a measure aimed at ensuring transparency and preventing irregularities in distribution.

The authorities stressed that public cooperation remains crucial in maintaining a smooth and efficient supply chain. By adhering to normal consumption patterns and avoiding unnecessary stockpiling, consumers can help ensure equitable distribution of essential fuel resources across the Union Territory.

The government’s assurance comes as part of ongoing efforts to maintain stability in essential commodities supply, particularly in regions prone to logistical challenges. Officials reiterated that they remain vigilant and committed to ensuring uninterrupted availability of fuel and LPG to all sections of society in Jammu and Kashmir.

New Delhi: Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting and Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, today chaired a review meeting with railway officials across the country at Rail Bhawan, New Delhi.

The Union Minister emphasized that providing a good travel experience to the poor and middle class remains the top priority of Indian Railways. He called upon all officials to work collectively towards this goal. Shri Vaishnaw also congratulated the entire Railway family for their commendable performance last year. He highlighted that the historic reduction in rail accidents and record freight loading have significantly improved the image of Indian Railways across the country. He also appreciated the effective operation of a large number of special trains during festivals, which helped meet the increased demand for travel.

Highlighting the importance of passenger experience, the Union Minister stated that railway stations are the face of Indian Railways before the public and must be kept clean and well-maintained. He urged officials to work with full dedication to ensure cleanliness and improved passenger amenities at all stations. Referring to the record allocation for railway modernization in the past decade, he emphasized that officials must ensure optimal utilization of funds to transform railway stations and enhance passenger facilities.

The Union Minister stressed that crowd management during peak periods, especially festivals, should ensure that passengers can reach platforms and board trains smoothly and without inconvenience. He directed officials to prioritise the use of allocated funds for improving passenger convenience and accessibility.

The issue of pending land acquisition for ongoing railway projects was also discussed. Shri Vaishnaw directed officials to expedite the process and, if required, seek the expertise of experienced retired officers of state revenue and forest departments to overcome bottlenecks.

Addressing the sensitive issue related to people living near railway tracks, the Union Minister emphasized that livelihoods must not be adversely affected. He directed railway officials to adopt a humane and sensitive approach in resolving such matters, in coordination with state governments. He noted that this is a significant issue in many urban areas and requires timely and compassionate resolution.

The meeting also reviewed the earlier decision regarding construction of rail underpasses (Puliyas). It was decided that, wherever feasible, convenient and accessible underpasses should be prioritised over foot overbridges for crossing railway tracks, both within station premises and outside. The Minister noted that underpasses are more user-friendly and are likely to be used more frequently by the public.

It was further decided to undertake pilot projects in different parts of the country to construct such underpasses. These will be designed to facilitate movement not only for pedestrians but also for cycles, scooters and motorcycles, and in some cases, wider structures will allow movement of tractors and other vehicles. Designs will be tailored to meet the requirements of both urban and rural areas.

The Union Railway Minister also appreciated the performance of zones in ensuring punctual train operations. He congratulated zones that have maintained high levels of punctuality and particularly appreciated those that have improved their performance by ensuring more than 85% punctuality despite operational challenges.

Shri Vaishnaw reiterated that with sustained efforts, efficient planning and a passenger-centric approach, Indian Railways will continue to enhance safety, service quality and overall travel experience for passengers across the country.

New Delhi: The second meeting of the Informal Group of Ministers (IGoM), set-up to monitor the evolving situation in West Asia and suggest proactive measures for its minimum impact on India, was held under the chairmanship of Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh at Kartavya Bhawan-2, New Delhi on April 02, 2026. The IGoM deliberated upon the recent developments at length, and the next steps to be taken by the Government to mitigate any adverse impact arising due to the ongoing conflict.

Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt Nirmala Sitharaman; Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Hardeep Singh Puri; Minister of Power Shri Manohar Lal; Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda; Minister of External Affairs Dr S Jaishankar; Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Shri Prahlad Joshi; Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh; and Minister of Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw attended the meeting.

In view of the “uncertain situation”, Raksha Mantri underlined the importance of round-the-clock monitoring of the situation and the need to respond in a calibrated manner to deal with any eventuality.  He stressed on the need to leave no stone unturned to ensure that the people of the country face the minimum effect of the conflict.

During the meeting, the seven Empowered Groups of Secretaries briefed the IGoM on the steps being taken to tackle the situation. The IGoM was apprised about measures undertaken by the Ministry of Finance to address concerns arising due to global trade disruptions and provide relief and support to the industry, especially manufacturing, and bolster investor confidence. These include the following:

  • Notification dated April 01, 2026 issued related to full customs duty exemption on 40 critical petrochemical products till June 30, 2026.
  • Announcement of a special one-time relief measure for eligible units in SEZs to sell manufactured goods in Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) at concessional customs duty rates to be effective from April 01, 2026 to March 31, 2027.
  • Notification dated March 31, 2026 issued by DoR clarifying that the provisions of GAAR will not be invoked in respect of investments made prior to April 01, 2017.

These measures will reduce cost pressures on downstream sectors including textiles, packaging and pharmaceuticals, facilitate supply stability in the country and provide requisite clarity for investors contemplating investments in India.

Shri Rajnath Singh appreciated the Government’s decision to impose a 25% cap on the monthly increase in Aviation Turbine Fuel prices for domestic operations, with effect from April 01, 2026. This step will help protect the people from sudden increase in fares, he said.

The Government has accorded highest priority to domestic LPG supply, with refinery production enhanced to fully meet consumption requirements. The IGoM was informed that there have been no reports of dry-out at LPG distributorships, and delivery of domestic LPG cylinders continues as per the normal schedule. The temporary supply concerns arose due to instances of hoarding and black marketing, which triggered panic buying in certain areas.

The Ministers were informed that strict enforcement action is being undertaken, with raids being carried out across multiple States/Union Territories to curb hoarding and black marketing of LPG. Action has also been taken against some LPG distributors who engaged in malpractices.

To support migrant labour and low-consumption households, the Government is ensuring adequate availability of 5 kg Free Trade LPG cylinders, and since March 23, 2026, over 4.3 lakh such cylinders have been sold. Special focus is being given to States where demand is higher.

The IGoM was apprised that industrial requirements dependent on commercial LPG are being met, with over 80% of pre-crisis supply levels being maintained to ensure continuity of operations. Special meetings have been held with ministries and stakeholders of different industries to understand their demand and meet their needs. Oil PSUs are ensuring continued supply of Auto LPG across the country. However, some supply constraints are being faced by private operators due to their procurement challenges, which is why lines are being observed at PSU auto LPG pumps. Wherever the autos are dual feed and can use petrol, they are being encouraged to use petrol.

The Ministers were informed that the number of LPG deliveries per day has been increased significantly to cater to the surge in demand caused by panic buying, ensuring that there is no shortage for consumers. Piped Natural Gas (PNG) is being actively promoted for industrial use as a reliable alternative, wherever feasible. PNG supplies for industrial usage are being ensured in sectors where it is already in use, maintaining operational continuity.

The IGoM was also apprised that certain miscreants are deliberately attempting to create panic by circulating photoshopped and morphed images and misleading content on social media. Such actions are being closely monitored. Citizens are strongly advised not to believe or share unverified information and to rely only on official sources for accurate updates.

The first meeting of the IGoM took place on March 28, 2026, during which Raksha Mantri had directed the officials to closely monitor the situation, adopt a medium to long-term preparedness approach, maintain high-level coordination, and ensure swift decision-making.

New Delhi:Secretary (Petroleum) chaired a meeting with Additional Chief Secretaries and Principal Secretaries (Food & Civil Supplies) of all States and Union Territories to review the fuel supply situation across the country.

He briefed the states/UTs on steps taken by the Government to ease the supply of essential petroleum fuels and also appreciated respective states/UTs to work alongside the central Government to deal with the evolving situation.

Secretary (Petroleum) stressed that States/UTs must actively manage and prioritize LPG distribution to ensure uninterrupted supply for domestic consumers and essential sectors. States were also advised to maintain strict vigilance against hoarding, diversion, and the spread of misinformation that could trigger unnecessary panic.

States such as Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh were commended for proactive enforcement actions, including raids to curb irregularities. Other States were urged to further strengthen monitoring and enforcement and take exemplary action on offenders. States were also requested to actively thwart attempts to mislead and spread false rumours with regard to supplies.

On reports concerning FTL LPG supplies to migrant workers, States clarified that there is no disruption in LPG supply affecting migrants and that supplies remain stable. Secretary informed that states may consider managing targeted distribution of 5 kg FTL LPG cylinders, based on local requirements alongwith OMCs. On LPG for autos it was clarified that efforts are ongoing to meet this demand, and autos that can run both on LPG and petrol should be encouraged to use the later.

Secretary (Petroleum) appreciated the cooperation of all States and UTs and called for continued close monitoring to ensure supply stability and maintain public confidence.
